DWP employment waiting list

What is the general concensus about what will happen to all these non-existant jobs - if the Tories win the election ?
I think discussions about "party" politics are futile in this context.. bottom line is a national debt where £1 in £8 earned by the country is spent paying back what we owe..
regardless of fairness, cuts will come in areas most palatable to the voting public - civil servants are seen as on a cushy number, with grossly unfair pension entitlements and (quite rightly, given everyones exp on this thread!) inefficient. If you think there's going to be more money for more jobs come May the 7th.. dream on.. Do you think the vast majority of the working tax paying citizens in this country give a toss how many folk are employed to process paperwork around the long term unemployed? - they might care about the treatment of an individual they know, but do they care if it takes 1 day 6 days or 60 days to process benefit claims for what the papers call dole scroungers? Compare DWP employees to Nurses, the NHS Budget, Schools teachers, Police, Firemen,.. who would you put in the firing line?? I am not saying it is "right" just that there is little option open.
I am applying for these jobs as a means to an end - I want a better job and while I am applying for the right ones, I will take "any" to be employed and seen as employable so my position is different to many of the folk on this thread who see DWP as the end goal. Personally I think the next 5 years or more will be a tough time for those anywhere in the public sector.. now wouldn't be my choice to go in to it as a career choice.. any new roles are far more likely to be contract rather than permanent.. and those contracts are very vulnerable to termination and non renewal.
The other issue is that the private sector is not crippled with debt like the government.. the companies that survive are lean(er) fit(ter) on the whole, and will recover rapidly.. I am doing some work at present with consultancy type firms, and they are hiring like mad at the top end.. which means they know there is rapidly rising demand for their services.. which means many companies are already recovering and doing well. It also means jobs lower down the scale.. maybe not this month and next, but in the next 3 - 9 months.. right at the time when a new government will be looking at ways to slash £40Bn off expenditure... I know where I would rather be..:o0 -
i will keep this short cos it seems im in the same boat as everyone else and have the same story
back in sept 09 applied for EO role.....irc62408....did the tests and interview....october got the 'on the list' letter
every month since then i have phoned them (and got through!) for progress report.....went from #41 to #8 in january......although the 30 in front of me was waiting on crb checks!
today i havnt been able to get thro to them on the number on the letter so decided to google for an alternative....found this thread..........kinda depressing to realise theres thousands in the same boat...thought i would join up and let everyone know how ive just got on with them
anyway........i worked my way thro some of the other numbers that got posted a page or two back...........on the 01912166596 number it got answered on the second ring!!......nearly fell off my chair with the shock :rotfl:
after a (very) quick chat with the woman, who didnt even want to check my name against the list told me that within the next 7 to 10 days everyone 'on the list' will get a letter in the post..........i asked if this was going to be a 'thanks but no thanks letter'?...........she said 'not necessarily......as theres 7 different kind of letters being sent out'..........so make of that what you will
im not holding my breath...............to be honest im kinda p****d off about it all........back when i applied it was for a job.....not a spot on a waiting list..feels like they have kept me dangling all these months with false promises......i even signed on this morning and my advisor asked me how it was progressing since they were overworked and understaffed
btw....heres another number for the list......01912166209...back in december it belonged to someone called Daniel Tolan
best of luck, everyone0 -

Does anybody have the original job advert for IRC 64220, blackpool? Would be grateful if someone could post it on here!
Thanks0 -
JAAL I dont have the job ad any more, was there something you wanted to check on it?0
-
If I wanted to check where I am on the waiting list, is it best to e-mail them, or should I call them?0
-
I doubt it matters where you are on the list.. some folk seem to have been close to the top and not got jobs.. despite others lower down already working..
I would email if I were ytou, less stressful, and they do eventually get back to you.0 -
Yeah..I already know that people who scored less than me in the interview stage, have now been given a job, yet here I am...still waiting.
Also, I went to the jobcentre today, and upon seeing half the desks empty, I asked why this was the case, and if it meant that they were understaffed. The guy I spoke to said that they like to keep it that way so that they can squeeze as much work out of them as possible.0 -
Well I am happy to say that after waiting since 1st September for a start date with DWP and been kept hanging on for months, I have now been offered another job in Personnel for a local company in Southend and start on Monday!!!
BTW I wrote to my local MP Mark Francoise who has raised the DWP issue with Rt Hon Jim Knight MP who is the Minister of State for Employment and Welfare Reform at the DWP. He will let me know when he gets a reply.
Good luck to everyone who is still waiting for IRC61505 and all the others.
This thread has kept me sane just knowing other people were in the same boat. Good luck to everyone for the future.
