Fab letter, I am on 61505 waiting list,...but only until March. Applied last July. I emailed Sun,....and asked them to look on this forum as I thought they would be aghast at the total waste of tax payers money. Not heard from them so I guess its not a story they think is worth reporting on. For those of you applying for London posts,....South East news asks for emails for things happening in London that concerns viewers, maybe someone should email them. I still think there must be a blanket ban on this subject.:D0

Excellent letter ! I'm certainly contacting my MP and an opposition MP as well.0

Just thought i'd add some links/contact details for Yvette Cooper and finding who your local MP is. I urge everyone to write to them as i'm sure the more people that convey their utter disgust at the situation, the more likely it is that something will be done about it.
I've also included details for the oppositions secretary of state for work and pensions, as i'm sure you will agree that she should be made aware of this whole debacle:
Rt Hon Yvette Cooper MP
Secretary of State
Department for Work and Pensions
Caxton House
Tothill Road
London SW1H 9DA
Tel: 01977 553388
Fax: 01977 559753
Email: coopery@parliament.uk
Rt Hon Theresa May MP
Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
and Shadow Minister for Women
House of Commons
London SW1A 0AA
Tel: 020 7219 5206
Fax: 020 7219 1145

If you attend an interview you can (before attending) ask at the jobcentre for expenses to attend. That comprises train/bus fare or 25p per mile if you use your own car.
You are also allowed to get money for clothes if needed. If you have not claimed previously and require clothes to start a job again you can claim for a pair of trousers and a couple of shirts and a tie or equivalent.
JSA is not a fortune so you may as well get that bit extra.
i worked at DWP, this is true but you need to be travelling outside your local area ie 10 miles or more, so you cant claim for a say a 8 mile round trip. Yes, you also can get clothes to help with interviews and if you are starting a job, but if your previous occupation was i.e. office worker, they will wonder what has happened to your trousers, shirt and tie you use to wear at work and refuse the funding. I was an EO and used to grant the ADF funds, loads of people use to try it on, like an ex recruitment consultant came in and wanted funding for new trousers and shoes, what happened to your old ones I ask, he stutters and grumbles they have worn out. So just have a good reason for wanting new items!
My recent experiences with DWP are shocking like the rest of the stories, I managed to get my old job back ...so I thought, was top of the waiting list in September and was waiting for ages, was recently told my application has now been declined as no positions available.0 -
hi guys, i can't actually believe what i'm reading here ! I got my 'waiting list' letter today (irc62979) and thought i'd google it to see if anyone else was in the same boat.....low and behold !
I'm so angry at the moment it's untrue ! I applied for my job in september, was interviewd in october, had the 'success' letter in november and was told yestreday (29th jan, by email i might add) that i am on some stupid waiting list and will be contacted 'if' an opportunity arises ! Hold on.... 'if' ? What the hell happened to the job i applied for ?!?!?!
I've spent 2-3 hours reading a lot of the posts in this thread and find the way that the dwp are treating people completely unacceptable, immoral, and irresponsible ! Why advertise a bloody job if it doesn't actually exist !? Furthermore, the use of words like 'exercise' in their letters makes my blood boil ! What are we ? Some form of guinea pig in their stupid experiment !?!?! I have worked in various government departments since 2003 and never has anything like this occurred previously.
Unfortunately, i have been unemployed since june 2009 and claiming jsa, which they have now cut off as it's been 6 months ! What a joke ! God knows what happened to the ni i've paid for the last 7 years ! How the hell are these guys helping me back to work i ask ?!!
To top it all off, i spoke to someone in employee services about 2 weeks ago to ask how far they had got with my pre-recruitment checks. He advised me that everything was complete and that i would just need to wait for a start date. I asked would this be days, weeks, months ?? "i don't konw, you'll just have to wait" was his response ! No mention of lists or anything. I even turned down a job on his advice. I asked him if i accept an offer of another job, would i be able to work the notice period when the dwp job starts. He advised that when given a start date, i would have to start on that date !
I now don't have either job, jsa, a penny in my pocket, or the will to live !
Thank you dwp, for nothing !0 -

Hi
I haven't posted on here before but I have being following this forum since last September. I am currently on a merit list for an EO position, and a waiting list for an AO position (I applied for both last July). Pretty much the same situation that the rest of you are in, so no need to elaborate further.
No doubt many of you are aware of the story that the BBC has published today about a freeze on Police recruitment. See the BBC News website; as a new user to this site, I can't put links in my post. This is an extract from the story, "Long wait for dream career in the Metropolitan Police":
"The Metropolitan Police has revealed that 2,000 applicants who successfully passed its rigorous recruitment process have no jobs to go to because fewer warranted officers are leaving, contrary to expectations."
This particular page concerns Metropolitan Police recruits, but the situation is similar in a lot of other forces.
At least we're not the only ones...0 -
Hi
I applied for an EO position and had an interview in July last year (IRC60541).
Im on a waiting list, but have lost my letter with the 0191 phone number. I need to tell them my new address and find out what is happening. Does anyone have a phone number?0 -
Matthew,
I've never had any success phoning them, but they do always respond quickly to email. The generic address is
"SHSVCS Resourcing Customer Services" <RESOURCING.CUSTOMERSERVICES@DWP.GSI.GOV.UK>
If you still want the numbers, I have the following:
0191 2166596
0191 2166925
(from my "success" letters)
and 3 regional numbers:
0191 2166242 (London & SE)
0191 2166261 (SW & Wales)
0191 2166549 (E & W Midlands & E England)0 -
Does anyone know out of the 670 successful candidates for IRC 62979, how many have been offered a position? DWP say that cannot give that info to me. Thanks!0
