    Hi guys,

Received my letter. I have been successful! It says we are waiting for my CRB check and i will be contacted again once this has been done to 'confirm whether or not we are able to offer you a post' - what does this mean. Does it mean that depending on my CRB check I have a job - so if they find anything dodgy on my crb which there wont be they wont offer me a job.

Also I went to the east Midlands recruitment day - is there any chance of making so i can work in the north west or is that not possible - i mean i have been successful i am guessing the north west recruitment is the same as the Midlands so can i just ask to be transferred to the north west?

any help would be greatly appreciated

    thanks again guys!

Being unemployed can be disorientating and depressing; that should not be underestimated. The fact that people have created an open dialogue over their experiences with the DWP doesnt mean that candidates do not appreciate the DWP or do not recognise the length or the odds of the process. The whole thing lies in the way we see things; I find it wonderful exchanging and reading the posts in this forum. Others may find it irritating or whatever. Thats their perception. I am positive that this forum helps, informs and entertains in a nice way its members.

7 exercises with hundreds of people on each one then the phone going often leads to head scratching moments!

7 Exercises? surely it must be more, I have applied to 5 exercises in just my area, My 4th Interview on Thursday and another next Tuesday.

Wish they could use your interview in different exercises too, I passed my first one easily and not been as good since, lol

I had my tests on Saturday 4th April and my interview for EO in Edinburgh on 22nd of April. I got my 'successful' letter on Saturday 9th May and I've received my Disclosure certificate today which I've emailed to Newcastle.

I called my recruitment officer in Newcastle this afternoon, got through immediately and the very helpful guy told me I'm 23rd on the list of 55 who are currently being checked for 50 vacancies. He reckons that I'm the first to get my disclosure check back and that I should be contacted by the Edinburgh people in 2 to 3 weeks from now.

This confirms that a previous post was correct in saying that the 'successful' letters are sent to the number of successful applicants needed to fill the available vacancies in a particular area and the 'successful / waiting list' letters are sent to the next batch below that.

I'll settle down and enjoy my time off work a little bit more now that I understand the process a little bit more and can see some light at the end of the tunnel (hope it's not a train coming!) lol

Best wishes to all who are waiting.
    Derek

Hi - I got sent a 'waiting list' letter, and when I phoned Newcastle they told me I was number 4 on the list and everyone was on the waiting list until they had confirmed how many posts were available and budgets etc. (By the way I start at the end of the month.)

In comparison the other area i applied for i got a 'successful' letter only to find out i was number 84 on the list!

Maybe different areas follow different policies.

And to add, I have always found the Newcastle people to be very helpfull considering how busy they must be.
  • I still think some people have no idea of the scale of this recruitment!

Every district is running multiple exercises and thousands of posts are involved nationwide. Each district is like a mini DWP with it's own organisational structure
developed over the years to meet the needs of that district after all the job cuts and efficiency savings - so no, there probably isn't a lot of consistency in people's experiences.

If some of the posters on here are successful, then they are going to have a very rude awaking when they start working for DWP - the air of 'I can do this much better than those doing it now' will soon be blown away when you finally realise the true situation and just how hard DWP staff work day in day out in difficult circumstances where the gateposts move regularly.

In some ways this thread is helpful, but in others it isn't as it seems to be fanning the flames of annoyance that wouldn't even exist if this thread didn't exist.
    Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...

I would just like to say that this will be my last post on this thread as I have been overwhelmed by the "support" that I have received. I only wrote the post about the council job as a bit of a whinge/moan that a lot of others have had. However the difference has been that they recieved support while I was left feeling vilified for saying how I felt.

You weren't having a whinge/moan... you threatened to do them for discrimination! Very different to others having a little moan.

People need to chill out and keep applying to other jobs. Patience is a virtue as far as the DWP are concerned. If they need anything or need to tell you anything they will contact you. This is not your average "run of the mill" company and mass recruitment programs take a considerable amount of time and organisation.

Putting all your eggs into one large DWP basket is a sure fire way to get yourself on JSA for a lonnnnng time. If you find another job in the meantime then you can jack that in should the DWP come knocking at a later date if you're still interested. To be perfectly honest the renumeration from DWP isn't that great and the job security isn't any better than other employers especially as contracts , a lot of them now anyway, are temporary.

I pity the poor folk of Newcastle and wonder whether it would not be better for them to keep their telephone numbers off the correspondance if they're going to be getting called everyday to ask what's happening. I'm not directing this at anyone in particular but this is pretty much the way I see things are taking place. I know it's a tough time for a lot of people and for some reason people seem to think the DWP are their quick meal ticket but honestly, it's never going to be the case.

    VERY well said.

Seconded. The Department hasn't seen an external recruitment drive like this in 7+ years. Given the amount of change in recruitment standards in the time, I imagine this is a learning curve for all involved.

I know it's annoying, but the best thing you can possibly do is sit back & wait. I've been through the 'waiting' process & am in my 4th week of work. Having seen this from the inside, I don't envy those running this recruitment drive in the slightest. I've received emails from staff sent at 7am on a Sunday morning regarding my post... the sheer workload for the HR dept must be terrifying.

Unless you have a direct query such as a lost disclosure etc, I really wouldn't hassle anyone, it will just create more work! & some of the more 'harsh' responses on here... well as Buddy said!

Well said! As someone else said, the process is inconsistent and if those of us who haven't gone in a smooth and timely way through the process want to come on here to let off steam, why shouldn't we?

It's also a great resouce for information-sharing. I have found stuff out here that I would otherwise have had to ring Newcastle for. I urge anyone who has been on the receiving end of negative comments to just ignore them and keep on checking in here. For the most part, people on this thread are positive and helpful.
