1) Person see an advert saying closing date for applications is say 23/03/09
2) Person Applies by that date
3) In the advert it states Numeracy Tests etc take place between say 30 March to 22 April 2009.
4) Person attends tests between these dates. (You therefore should not expect to get an answer until 23 April at the earliest, i.e. after the last test date)
5) Person finds out if successful in these tests
6) If successful invited for an Competancy Test interview. At this interview your give proof of identity, fill in CRB Forms, HMRC forms (proof of paying tax in the last 3 years)
At this interview people are scored on their replies. Person gets a score rating. Put into a "league table". Until all interviews are conducted i.e all other applicates are scored, no letters are sent out. Once all scores are in the top "X" are sent letters saying you have successful, pre-recruitment checks are now being taking. The next band are put on a waiting list, & the lower band told they have been they have been unsuccessful
7) The successful one's have to wait until the checks for CRB & HMRC come back
8) Once these come back clear start date given
BTW Newcastle is put on the CRB form as this is Long Benton, Newcastle, DWP "HR" processing Centre.
Agencies are used to weed out initial applicants, arrange tests etc, because DWP are short staffed , hence the recruitment process.
Telephoning Newcastle for process does not really achieve anything, apart from making you feel frustrated. Hope this helps.

The bit in bold may be incorrect/not the same for every excercise as I was informed that I was successful two weeks before the recruitment process had been completed. The DWP were still interviewing for the IRC I applied for up to three weeks after my interview and two weeks after I found out I had been successful.
I noe have a start date of June 1st in Nottingham. Anyone else working there?
My recruitment process started late Feb. Was interviewed early March. I am a little concerned as I need to take two days holiday in June (wedding-not mine!), and don't know who to inform. Should I just inform the person I report to on my first day?
Good luck everybody!

Phew, I did better on the tests than I realised...
I posted somewhere that I got confirmation of my results and all it had written was Numeracy 11. This usually means I failed the literacy and my Numeracy score was 11. I found this a bit odd at the time as I had been told on the day I had passed both modules and given an interview time which I had subsequently passed by this stage.
I have now applied for an EO position and passed the initial sift and been told to come for testing. In my initial results letter it stated that I had achieved a score up until the level of EO so I would not need to take the tests again should I apply for a position up to that rank. I rang the contact number on the letter to tell them I had previously achieved EO level results and would not need to attend the testing.
I was then asked to read out the letter and was told I had failed my literacy and not achieved a result in my Numeracy of sufficient EO level and to attend the testing. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and she knew what she was doing so we managed to sort it out fairly quickly. For some reason my results letter had someone elses results on it but the body of the text applied to my results. She went off to track down my results and when rang me back I was informed to destroy that letter and await a new results letter which would state my scores as ;
Literacy 14/15
Numeracy 19/20
Bit miffed I didn't get them both 100% now! Good news is I don't have to do the tests and have been offered an interview automatically. Woot.0 -
Just rang Disclosure Scotland and they checked their records and have no trace of having done a check on me. So I rang Newcastle and a helpful lady confirmed that they have my CRB form and that I have been passed to the department that does recruitment checks and as soon as they have starting dates then the process will continue. She confirmed that nobody from the recrutiment excercise that I was on have been recruited, we are all in the same boat.
It appears to me that, for Cornwall anyway, they need the go ahead to recruit more staff and then it will be all systems go.
I think I am going to put this job on the back burner and keep on doing what I am doing, by applying for other jobs and accept any that are offered and just know that there is a possibility that I may be contacted in the future for the DWP. Otherwise I am going to drive myself potty with all the what ifs and false hopes..

Does anyone know if a position is likely to be available once they have carried out a successful CRB check? I sent my copy to Newcastle last week and I know they have to contact the Inland Revenue re: work over the past 3 years. I just wanted to know if I'm anywhere near the stage of receiving an offer of employment.0

Funny you say this, I sent my Certificate last week so I got impatient and called Newcastle today to see if Im receiving the phonecall anytime soon. Unfortunately the resource manager told me he has absolutely no idea about when Ill be offered a starting date although for this exercise there's no waiting list. And I do believe him; he has been very helpful when I called him before. He said he ll contact me if he has any news. The funny thing is I ve called him 3 times since the 18th of March and he remembered my name..Maybe we should try to relax on the matter; I have been very down because of all this waiting. And still no news.0 -

My interview was End of Feb, as of today neither of my personal references have beem contacted but I have just been given my start date. there are various posts on here in respect of the type of letter, the CRB checks, waiting lists etc and the workload they have at the moment in addition to todays office move, I'd be just a little more patient?
Yep I know, but patience is wearing thin lol.
I graduated last year, and have been stuck in my part-time job since.
Guess I shall just continue applying for jobs in the mean-time!
Did nobody else apply for vacancies in the Central London area?0 -
Hello I was wondering if someone could gve me a little assistance
I recently applied for an EO position in Merseyside. I took the two tests and filled out crb forms on the day. I passed the tests and was invited back for an interview. I took the interview 16 days ago and today rang Newcastle to fnd out any news. I was told i has passed the interview but others had achieved better scores than me and therefore been notifed frst. I asked 'had I got a job?' and was told that they were still completng crb checks.
Where does this leave me? Am I on a waiting list?
Im also a bit worried as a couple of years ago I refused a breathlyzer, went to court and was banned from drivng for 9 months. Will ths affect my application when they fnd out from my crb check?
Lastly, what kind of information do they ask previous emplyoyers? I didnt leave my last job under the best circumstances and im worried that ths could also effect my applcation.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. I really need this job and all my eggs are in one basket at the moment.0 -
I don't think that being banned from driving is gonna effect your application. But did you declare this as it may come back on your CRB, even if it does it is more to do with if you have oustanding unspent convictions. They need to know you are not a threat in working with people, which in this case it does not pose a threat to the public. Don't worry about it to much just wait and see. We are all in the same boat Darling. Have faith!0
