DWP employment waiting list

For what it's worth, these jobs are not for everyone.
I started back for the DWP on this exercise back in July 2009 as an EO and had a fantastic 8 weeks of interesting training which I really enjoyed and met some great people.
I then got posted to my local Jobcentre which was, again, great - never worked to close to home. Nice environment, friendly staff.
However (I can't go into details, obviously) I got put onto a job that really "wasn't me", dealing with the most awkward "customer" cases (the words "futile" and "waste of time" spring to mind). I'm in the fortunate position that I could always simply go back to my "proper" occupation, so after 6 months I've called it a day and gone back to my old profession. Myself and a good number of other new fixed-term recruits really got the impression that they were simply "cannon fodder". (Edit: I was the third person to leave out of my EO intake).
On the upside, after carrying out many hundreds of interviews, often with very reticent characters, I now have a killer interview technique!0 -
Cheers Orb for that useful insight.. may aim is to get a job.. anywhere for now, because I want to get back to full time work after a break, and doing that from a position of employment is better..
I know for some folk the DWP is a goal.. and there are folk who think working for civil service is better than the commercial sector,, but I do think it takes a certain mentality to stick it out, let alone enjoy it.. and I suspect many trade locality and flexibility and pension for "career"..
At least having moved on you have some useful experiences you can call upon!0 -

Don't get me wrong - I am very glad I did the job, and I like to think that I have done some good and helped some people (the number of "thankyou" cards and calls I got bears this out). It's been very character building and I have learned a great deal from it, it has truly changed my perspective on many things.0 -
I have had some interesting news from a source at the DWP (others may already know this but I didn't).
There is a country-wide freeze on recruitment because one department of the DWP overspent on their recruitment budget - but no one knows which department. When the new budget is released in 8 weeks time, it should be discovered which department was responsible, and recruitment should resume.
There may be light at the end of the tunnel.HSBC Credit Card £608.69, HSBC Overdraft: £4123.67, HSBC Loan: £8,270.69
Lloyds Credit Card: £1418.62, Very Account: £518.99, Barclaycard: £126
Total Debt as of 9th June 2020: £15066.660 -
I spoke to the dwp today regarding IRC 61505 they said they are sending out letters and every1 should recieve a letter by the end of the 1st week in Feb, they will either be told they are now on a waiting list or they are not going to be recruiting any1 from this IRC.
I am so angry i have been waiting since the end of July and when i passed my interview the letter i recieved never mentioned a waiting list and if there is no job available at all then thats ridiculas and such a waste of money on the recruitment process and then on giving us all crb checks.
I am thinking we should all start a petition and get the goverment to look into how they can waste money like this0 -
Lostinthefog wrote: »Sorry 21Twinkle I didn't mean us as in us on the forums but rather apparently according to the lady i spoke to only a couple of people have been cleared so far for my specific IRC numbers (apparently only 3 people for one of them). Also it wasn't just CRB but references, credit history and the rest of it. Although i'm not sure if they really bother with references.
Hey lost,
Just so you know i applied for a position in the south in Aug and passed along with 127 other people on the merit list for this area and according to dwp i spoke to today they have not placed 1 person from that list. They then re - advertised for people in the south at end of Nov beginning of Dec i think and i was told they wouldnt be placed before the people on our merit list for the south and ive been waiting 5 months now and just benn told that there prob aint a job available, so don't get your hopes up.0 -
Hi dmwright, as you know I am on the same merit list for IRC61505 Essex - I was told about a week ago by e-mail that I had moved up from 30th to 24th place on the list, and that I would definitely be contacted in January. However as I was earlier told I would be contacted in Oct, Nov and Dec I won't hold my breath. I too had a successful letter in Sept after interview in August and when the letter states 'you have been successful' and ends 'we look forward to working with you' you stupidly think the job is yours!
I have an interview for another job tomorrow, but am angry to have wasted so much time waiting for what appeared to be a good job.

Further to my posting on this site regarding my total frustration with the DWP since applying IRC62404, I was amazed and aghast when I read the document posted by MISS RAY on page 405 of this forum- (sorry but Im unable to post links)
I URGE YOU ALL TO LOOK AT THIS IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY!!!!
At no time during my various telephone calls to the DWP have they given me any information? Why oh why werent we all written to weeks ago telling us about this??????????
I totally despair with the way the DWP treat those who apply for jobs. Its both disgusting and immoral.0 -
• A ban on any further external recruitment (apart from people who have already been offered a job)
• A ban on transfers into Jobcentre Plus (apart from the ongoing PDCS transfers and hardship cases)
• A ban on promotion in all grades
• A ban on extending any Fixed Term (FTA) or temporary/casual appointments beyond the current end date of their contract
This is the information we had e-mailed out at work the other day. Pretty much screws up my chances of moving on as my job would have meant a promotion. What I can't understand is why they are not extending FTA workers contracts. On my team there are 12 people of which 6 are on FTA. Over the past couple of weeks we have been answering back to back calls and having to do overtime/book call backs/ask people to call back at quieter times etc to cope. How would we cope if we were this busy with half the staff?0 -
I have recently received a letter confirming I have been successful for IRC 63898 - Hampshire, dated 5th January subject to pre-employment checks. I have contacted Newcastle and been told I am 5th on the waiting list. Looking at the previous posts I am concerned now, could someone shed some light on what happens next??0
