DWP employment waiting list

The DWP have been clear now that there are no jobs for those waiting.
I would suggest people still expending energy on what might have been, put their efforts into finding a job.
Sorry if this sounds blunt to those that were waiting, but I really think it's time for you to be moving on. It's clear that you have not been successful with the DWP.whinge intr.v. whinged, whing·ing, whing·es Chiefly British To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.0 -
If that is a total nationwide freeze I am so angry, I have turned down a role in the meantime waiting for this one. The only bit of info I have had since my "success" letter is that my local job centre were starting new people in early February. If this isn't actually the case then think notifying local MP's is the way forward.0

I informed my MP last week - he is extremely interested, as he is a Lib Dem !!!
I suggest that you all do the same ....0 -

If it makes someone feel better why not? real issue is the crock of wombat do that the exercise has become, and the political background to it all, with Gordo's black hole. Not only will we most likely NOT be offered a job anytime soon, the list will quietly expire. But existing frontline civil servants up to HEO will be on a hitlist for P45's ASAP to show that public spending is being cut by all flavours of political party, so whatever party the MP belongs to, whatever sympathetic noises they make, they want to save money. Of course the Guardian Non Jobbers, the co-ordinators, the outreachers, the diversity box tickers on £40K+ will be safe.0 -
An email was sent out internally last week, which stated that all recruitment is currently frozen. JCP has taken on 6,000 extra staff nationwide, and it has to be said it was all done a bit too late. If the recruitment had of been a year earlier than great, but now that that unemployment figures are lowering, JCP has found itself with 6000 extra staff that they may not need.0

Fook me.
The amount of people out of work isn't falling.
This is what the ONS has to say about it:
The employment rate for September to November 2009 was 72.4 per cent. This is the lowest since winter 1996-97 and is down 0.1 on the quarter. The number of people in employment fell by 14,000 on the quarter to reach 28.92 million, the number of people in full-time employment fell by 113,000, and the number of people in part-time employment increased by 99,000 to reach a record high of 7.71 million. There were 1.03 million employees and self-employed people working part-time because they could not find a full-time job. This is the highest figure since records for this series began in 1992 and it is up 46,000 on the quarter.0 -

Thats a bit harsh!! The problem is that I (along with loads of other people) applied for a position in August AND HAVE NOT BEEN INFORMED OF ANYTHING since being told that my application and interview was sucessful. Its only natural that people are going to use forums like this to "sound off" at the way they have been treated.
I have now moved on and am actively seeking work, but I maintain with a passion that a governmental department such as the DWP should at the very least treat people with the respect that they deserve.0 -
Martin, if you go to your JCP and ask, they will give you a leaflet about how you are entitled to be treated.. it suggests a lot of things that the DWP as a whole fall far short of in their recruitment, and indeed, you do have a right to expect better from a government you elect, and a service you pay for..
keep it up mate!0 -
The thing which ought to have been explained better is that even though people were successful , they simply get put on a waiting list which can last up to a year.
You might get the call straight away, you might wait 10 or 11 months. You might wait past the 12 months and be back at square one again because at that point your application lapses.
This is just standard Civil Service recruitment procedures, it's nothing particular to DWP.
As far as I know, the current position is that all external recruitment is frozen until the "headcounts" are sorted out. Casual staff are being paid off when their contracts expire. Fixed term staff are to be paid off later in the year when their contracts expire. Staff transfers between offices are currently frozen, although there's a bit of leeway to transfer staff from Benefit Delivery Centres to local Job Centres.
Telephony staff at Benefit Delivery Centres have been transferred (on paper) to the new Call Centre Directorate ... once the new Call Centres are up and running, those folk answering calls in the Benefit Delivery Centres are going to be transferred back to benefit delivery to process benefit claims.
Which might provide for the possibility, later in the year, for recruitment from the waiting lists for call handlers in the new telephony centres. But it's a big might ... because between now and then there's every chance there'll be a new government with different priorities for social security.
It's hugely frustrating being on a civil service waiting list, I know, been there & done that. You should maybe keep an eye on the PCS trade union website for new information.
