DWP employment waiting list

I phoned up today and actually got through to the Newcastle number. The guy said I should recieve an email in early feb telling me what will be happening.
I.E the bad news I guess.
I am now actively applying for other jobs.
I don't mean too sound to half glass empty but I would take your promise of an email early Feb with a pinch of salt. The person you spoke to would have been of admin grade and highly unlikely ot have advance notice that an email would be sent out a week or more from now, in all likelyhood they were trying to get you off the phone.
Maybe try again and see if you get the same answer from another member of staff.
I have to say if I had been treated as some of you have then I too would be contacting my MP to invesitgate further into any "!!!! ups" that were or were not made

I am currently unemployed and have been for two months. I would really like one of these positions to come up for me but I have been actively seeking employment through other avenues as well.
The thing that annoys me most about this whole debacle is the total disregard that has been paid to applicants. I understand that this was a large recruitment drive and therefore the 'personal touch' was missing. However, I think it is such a kick in the teeth to anyone who is already unemployed in these hard times. They are playing with people's emotions.
I search every day for suitable job roles. I was excited to find the DWP jobs as they appeared to fit the bill and I fitted the person spec in return. I spent a lot of time on both applications, considering my responses to questions to ensure I was selling myself in the best way I possible, while still answering all sections honestly. I then played the waiting game, hoping that I would get through to the next stage and be invited to an interview and assessment. Then of course, there was the excitement of getting invited and which got my hopes up even more. Before I attended each of the days I read the job description thoroughly and prepared various responses to potential questions, typing them up in the STAR format so that I would feel fully prepared when I attended and wouldn't get stuck for examples of my skills. I also spent time researching the best route to go to the interview and ensuring I had collated all the relevant docs that were requested. On each day of the intereviews I spent extra time making myself look presentable and travelled an hour away, through rush hour traffic, using fuel that is paid for by my limited job seekers allowance. To ensure I wasn't late I arrived half an hour early. I then spent three hours at each assessment centre, and this came with the obvious associated nerves and anxieties. At the end of the day I was sent off with a scrap of paper and told to ring in a month for an update. At this point, I had to question what sort of operation takes a month to advise an applicant if they were successful or not and so this came with the emotions of doubt and made me start to wonder if I had wasted my time. However, when the letters arrived I obviously perked up and felt more positive. I phoned Newcastle to check on the process but was met with a non-committal response that the Job Centre had put a freeze on recruitment and would be writing to all applicants in January to update them.
Eh???
I find the total ineptitude of the DWP to be able to forecast staff levels and to recruit accordingly absolutely astounding. No doubt the person that has made these decisions is sitting pretty on a fat cat wage.
I find it amazing that these are the people that are supposed to be helping me back into work. As far as I am concerned they have wasted my time, money and emotions. And it's not just me, there are obviously hundreds of us in the same boat.
I really hope that Apolonation doesn't work for the DWP as he is a shining example of the disregard and callous attitude I have come to expect. Maybe you should work on your empathy skills a bit, mate.
Good luck to the rest of you on your job hunt and I hope you and I have some success soon.
GET OVER IT ALREADY.... Geeeez your story is nothing compared to some on here that have been waiting over half a year after having been told they had the job.whinge intr.v. whinged, whing·ing, whing·es Chiefly British To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.0 -
Nice. Truth hurts huh? I know that and understand that and if you read what I had written you would have seen that I make mention of the fact that there are hundreds of others in the same situation. Please don't try to win support for your earlier rude and blunt post by making out I am not sympathetic to others. You will also see that I mention I am "OVER IT ALREADY" and have moved on. I gave you the outline of my situation to try to point out why people are so upset and annoyed on here in the hope you may be able to understand. However, it appears that you are indeed completely insensitive as your post I quoted initially indicated. So, why don't YOU get over it and tell us about your crap DWP recruitment experience too so that I can try to understand your viewpoint? Or maybe you could redirect me to the page that is on? I see from an earlier post on page 107 of this thread that you already have a job with the DWP and although you had to wait a little while the experience was all pretty smooth. Thanks again for your understanding of the situation so many of us, it’s nice to know the DWP is in good hands.0

I just think you need to move on. I've left the DWP as I was on a FT contract that was ended early, you don't hear my moaning about it... I got another job. I am not saying these things to be mean, I genuinely think it would be better for people waiting to put their energy into getting a job. All this negativity is not getting you or anyone else anywhere. Life isn't fair... get over it!whinge intr.v. whinged, whing·ing, whing·es Chiefly British To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.0

Insensitive and patronising. Like I said, nice.
People have come on this thread to try to find out what is going on with the job they have applied for. It appears from this thread that there are no jobs but the DWP are not keeping people updated. I don't think sharing our experiences and venting a little frustration with others that are in the same situation is negative. And no one is making you read it. The only reason I bothered to post was because I thought your post was offensive and rude and to try to offer you a further insight into the bigger picture which you clearly were unable to see. Come to think of it, why are you bothering to read this thread anyway? As you said, you applied, got a job, finished and now work elsewhere. Maybe you are the one that needs to "move on".0 -

Couldn't agree more with that.
Nobody likes hearing the "I'm alright, Jack" mentality. Perhaps a good thing that he or she has moved out of a civil service department geared towards the unfortunate?
Either way - chill out, the pair of you. It looks like the party is over for all of us.0 -
Sorry but its obvious from your attitudes why your unemployed.
Obvious. Change your attitude or stay unemployed imo.whinge intr.v. whinged, whing·ing, whing·es Chiefly British To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.0 -

It wasn't a promise to me, I was told by the person who signs me on that the rumour was that new people in my local dole office were apparently meant to start in early february....this was before I heard about the crushing news discussed on these pages.0 -

Helping people back to work is, sadly, only a small part of the job. Most of it appeared to me to revolve around toeing the line and hitting pointless targets.0 -
I have been working for the DWP for two months now - and I am sorry to say that I do not like the job! I feel terrible saying that seeing that so many of you are desperate for a job with the DWP.
I am actually thinking of leaving - the only way I can relieve my guilt is to know that one of you may take my place!
I ask the following question mostly to the people that are currenty working for the DWP, that are familiar with the procedures. Will there be any repocussions if I were to leave the dwp after only two months (i am on a fixed term contract of 18 months)? Will they force me to repay training costs and expenses such as the hotel they put me up in whilst I attended training, and other expenses that they paid for me such as the food allowance.
Also, would i be able to go back to claiming unemployment if I were to leave?
And how much notice would i be required to give? (Never received a contract!)
Sorry, I just am really unhappy with the job!
Thanks!0
