Comiserations, but many public sector workers who think they are safe will be out on their ear come May, whoever wins the election, It may be better to be ahead of them in the old jobsearch, hard as it seems at the minute imho0 -
Hey all, i got a different email today, asking for a reply to let them know if I was still interested in the vacancy. I find this strange given what we all know about the chances of actually getting a job.0

Since Maggie Thatch, and "On Your Bike" Tebbit, there is apparently no such thing, but if you have such a rare jewel, keep hold of it and good on you. Just be a little more understanding of those less fortunate than yourself0 -
I do count my blessings and I have real empathy for those waiting. I hope you all get great jobs, and look back and are happy things turned out the way they did in a year or so. I was unemployed for a year or so about two years ago and I know how that can be, so good luck everyone.whinge intr.v. whinged, whing·ing, whing·es Chiefly British To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.0

The main thing is that no one should ever stop looking, for something else, and as it has always been, a place on a civil service success/merit list has NEVER been a guarantee of a job ever, just a place in a queue that may/may not pay off.
The problem here is that the recruitment exercise was so vast, that adequate timely information, and actual conditions of offer, and purpose of the waiting list, was/is not passed on to candidates imho.0 -

I know exactly how you feel!
I went for another interview today (as I have been since September despite the success letter) which was working for a Housing Association in a job I've literally done before elsewhere - was told the interview was "brilliant" and that "they loved me", but they've offered the job to someone slightly more local.
What else do we have to bloody do....................but don't worry!!! Remember..........unemployment is going down!!!

The DWP !!!! !!!!-up gets even worse!
After being told that I was successful and 11th on the merit list I today received an e mail saying thanks for your interest in working for DWP but on this occasion you have been "unsuccessful"
Their stupidity knows no bounds!0 -
Great..... having read this long thread, I know now to give up. This is been eating away at me since the middle of December, and when I googled "waiting list for dwp job" this site came up first..... little did I expect such a mammoth thread!
I applied for IRC 63887 last year, no mention of "waiting lists" in the job advert, nor on the day of the assessments and interviews.
Oh yes, the assessment & interview day. I got there, only to find my name wasn't on their lists, despite have a phone call from manpower inviting me. Anyway got that issies sorted, sat the assessments, passed them with full marks on both, kept waiting all day for the interview, and if I'd known it was going to be for a complete waste of time as it sounds it has been, I wouldn't have bothered. I don't drive and had to pay out for a taxi between the railway station and the hotel the used in the middle of nowhere & back again.
So then I got the infamous "you have been successful letter" and that's when the shock set in. What waiting list? 6 months? What happened to the vacancies they advertised? Did they fill them with other people and I was simply deemed "next best" and put on the waiting list? Or have they simply not actually filled the jobs the advertised? The letter clearly says I have been successful, so have I got the job or not? Some simply honesty is needed from them. At the same time, it says waiting list, which suggests not.
"We will contact you as soon as we have any further information. In the meantime, congratualtions on your success. We look forward to working with you in the future!
So the letter starts with a feelgood factor, crushes you in the middle and then tries to suggest the feelgood factor again at the end.
All in all, if this was any company acting in this manner, surely it would be deemed misadvertising and in breach of some law?
To make matters worse, when I go to the jobcentre and say "but this letter says I have a job" it is of no interest to them & they insist I must now start to include part-time work in my search. I don't want part-time. End of.
I know what the game is - there's an election coming up this year & this skanky buuch of labour !!!!!! whose time is almost up are desperate to show they have got on top of things such as unemployment.
Yours, truly depressed by it all.Fog on The Tyne isn't mine all mine... but if I wanted it, I'd want it with a discount code.0
