DWP employment waiting list

There's always been a waiting list, across all civil service departments, since time immemorial. The problem with the current lists is that there's little hope of anyone left on them getting the call.
And that's because the political agenda has changed. We've passed from "OMG unemployment's going up, give the DWP more staff" to "OMG we're borrowing too much, we need to get rid of staff". That flip flop isn't the fault of the DWP or the girls at the end of the 0191 recruitment lines, it's the fault of government.
They've got a track record of such things. A few years ago the Daily Mail ran a series of stories about the bloated civil service. And G. Brown woke up one morning & arbitrarily cut the civil service headcount, DWP got hit with 30,000 staff to get rid of. And that led to the old DSS offices getting shut down, Job Centres closed all over and the introduction of a telephony based system (and ain't that been an overwhelming success ... not).
It's desperately unfair some of you have been left dangling. But at least you weren't taken on. Some of your friends here have been taken on and now face the prospect of being paid off in only a few months time ... then having to claim benefit on the Monday morning from the self same offices they were working at on the previous Friday afternoon.
It's pretty grim. My heart goes out to all of you.0 -
Having FINALLY got through using one of numbers on page 403..... although it was the new entrants section.... I sounded off and the woman got a manager from the right department to call me back.
I highlighted how nobody answers the number on the letter, that it wasn't good enough. Apparently Kent hasn't been reassessed yet, and they are in the process of doing it. (Whatever.)
Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that I won't be getting the/a job with DWP.
So if the update letter mentioned in the phone call actually materialises..... well I'll believe it when I see it.Fog on The Tyne isn't mine all mine... but if I wanted it, I'd want it with a discount code.0 -
I have been following this thread since Xmas without actually posting. I too have been waiting since my "success" letter in September.
Had it confirmed to me yesterday that there is indeed a recruitment freeze on. I had to sign on in my local Job Centre and the advisor said the freeze was on and they don't know when it will be lifted.
I thnk it's an utter disgrace the way we have been treated ! No communication to tell us of a recruitment freeze. When I applied I didn't apply to get on a waiting list. I thought there was a job vacancy waiting to be filled.
What a way to treat people ! I don't care if this is the practice in the civil service, it's plain wrong to recruit in this way.
I don't want to get too political, but the government should be blasted for this shambles. Questions should be asked of Yvette Cooper MP if this is acceptable. How much has this recruitment drive cost the Tax payer ?
I personally hope she is run out of Office for good ! And no I'm not a Tory voter. One thing for sure, I'll never vote Labour again in my life !!!0 -
I just received an e-mail from DWP informing me that I am now on the waiting list as there are no vacancies at present.0

Has anyone emailed the minister responsible for DWP - ie) Yvette Cooper/Jim Knight (http://www.dwp.gov.uk/about-dwp/ministers/#jk
To ask What Exactly DWP is playing at ?
They (supposedly) work for us - after all0 -

Someone on this thread or the othr DWP one wrote to their MP who passed the query on to Yvette Cooper.. the response was the usual political acknowledgement - generic denial combined with a total lack of relevant comment.
I would still suggest writing to your MP (they "have" to answer you..) and ask for specific questions to be answered. In my expereince, government ministers rarely answer questions from the public unless they are via the MP.0 -
I have been working for the DWP for two months now - and I am sorry to say that I do not like the job! I feel terrible saying that seeing that so many of you are desperate for a job with the DWP.
I am actually thinking of leaving - the only way I can relieve my guilt is to know that one of you may take my place!
I ask the following question mostly to the people that are currenty working for the DWP, that are familiar with the procedures. Will there be any repocussions if I were to leave the dwp after only two months (i am on a fixed term contract of 18 months)? Will they force me to repay training costs and expenses such as the hotel they put me up in whilst I attended training, and other expenses that they paid for me such as the food allowance.
Also, would i be able to go back to claiming unemployment if I were to leave?
And how much notice would i be required to give? (Never received a contract!)
Sorry, I just am really unhappy with the job!
Thanks!
If you leave you will need to give notice (should be a month but probably flexible) however you will not be required t opay any money back that has been spent on you including training, recruitemtn etc, although this will probably be a substantial sum.
You can make a claim for JSA but will be considered as leaving voluntarily without good cause which means your JSA could be suspended for up to 26 weeks (dependant on when your contract will have ended)."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
What will asking our MP's actually achieve - other than getting DWP's backs up ?
Will it magically create 1000+ jobs out of thin air for all of us waiting for a post - or will it just make us feel better ?
I think the latter
ps I emailed my MP last week - no response yet
They are ALL in on it !!!0 -

I applied for IRC 63887 last year, no mention of "waiting lists" in the job advert, nor on the day of the assessments and interviews.
Oh yes, the assessment & interview day. I got there, only to find my name wasn't on their lists, despite have a phone call from manpower inviting me. Anyway got that issies sorted, sat the assessments, passed them with full marks on both, kept waiting all day for the interview, and if I'd known it was going to be for a complete waste of time as it sounds it has been, I wouldn't have bothered. I don't drive and had to pay out for a taxi between the railway station and the hotel the used in the middle of nowhere & back again.
So then I got the infamous "you have been successful letter" and that's when the shock set in. What waiting list? 6 months? What happened to the vacancies they advertised? Did they fill them with other people and I was simply deemed "next best" and put on the waiting list? Or have they simply not actually filled the jobs the advertised? The letter clearly says I have been successful, so have I got the job or not? Some simply honesty is needed from them. At the same time, it says waiting list, which suggests not.
"We will contact you as soon as we have any further information. In the meantime, congratualtions on your success. We look forward to working with you in the future!
So the letter starts with a feelgood factor, crushes you in the middle and then tries to suggest the feelgood factor again at the end.
All in all, if this was any company acting in this manner, surely it would be deemed misadvertising and in breach of some law?
To make matters worse, when I go to the jobcentre and say "but this letter says I have a job" it is of no interest to them & they insist I must now start to include part-time work in my search. I don't want part-time. End of.
I know what the game is - there's an election coming up this year & this skanky buuch of labour !!!!!! whose time is almost up are desperate to show they have got on top of things such as unemployment.
Yours, truly depressed by it all.
Hi, I also attended the same assessment as you IRC 63887 in December, passed tests and had interview, I then got my success letter which stated they were undertaking pre-recruitment checks, i have received my CRB certificate and personal references have been done, then came the email saying i was on a Merit/ Waiting list for 6 months. Why would they waste money on CRB checks when they clearly are not going to employ you, I could commit a crime in the next 6 months so surely they would have to do another check !!! More money wasted !!0 -
I got the email of doom today. It is actually a relief, since what I am hearing from my friend that works in the Job Centre, it isn't somewhere I want to be. I just hope that some of the people that were waiting to hear about IRC 62668 actually got some good news!
