DWP employment waiting list
Comments
-
Hi Whiskeyman
My letter refers to being placed on the waiting list.
I have managed this week to get in touch with a family friend who is quite highly placed in the Personnel division of the DWP - he says that there is a hold on things because of financial reasons( is it ever anything else), plus there is some clearing out of TEMPS going on ( no offence to anyone in that position, its what I was told) - then the hold should be lifted around the feb/march time re our waiting lists and we should get placed........he is quite adamant about this and as I say is certainly in a position to know whats going on.
As it involves finances etc it is, I am told, all very hush hush and as we can appreciate not the kind of info that Newcastle, for example, would tell us under any circumstances I wouldnt have thought - this probably explains the crap, bumbling chats and communication people seem to get if and when they get anything at all from Newcastle!!!
I do feel in the light of this and the fact that they have recruited generally and unemployment certainly isnt going down that these jobs must come to fruitition for us all at some stage early in the New Year.
Heres hopeing, best wishes to everyone x0 -

A bit negative but I think you only have the job when they give you a start date (as long as they haven't messed up and given the start date to the wrong person). Until then, you should assume you have not got the job and keep looking but keep chasing up the EO job.0 -

Hi there! Sorry I can't bring "glad tidings of great Joy" at this festive time of the year, but just about everyone on here has passed tests, had successful interview letters, been told they will be contacted again after checks.........and are still waiting for the elusive call with a start date. On a more positive note, the EO positions seem to be getting filled quicker than the AO ones, so fingers crossed for you. As to "how long can it take"? Well, it varies from several weeks to several months. If you already have a job DONT HAND YOUR NOTICE IN on the strength of your "success" letter. It does not mean that you have the job (a mistake that many of us have made). All the best for the new year and I hope that 2010 brings a DWP start date for you!

One thing to add. I passed the tests, then got the successful letter subject to references.
Firstly make sure you references have been contacted, preferably by email.
Second if you get the disclosure scotland through the post don't assume that the DWP have a copy you may have to send it to them.
Keep telephoning Newcastle they can tell you what is outstanding on you application.
I waited with my disclosure for a month before they finaly told me that was what they were waiting for even though I ticked the box to send it to DWP. I faced it to them 8.30 one friday, they called me at about 11.00 the same day and i started the following Monday.0 -
hi there,
I had my EO assessment day in Edinburgh on September 1st 2009. one week later I received a letter saying I had been successful on the assessment and that they were going to start with pre-appointment checks.
In mid november they called me to let me know that all checks have been completed and that I would be expecting a call at the end on December or beginning of January 2010.
to be honest, when they called me i couldnt belive as I lost all hopes ( it took ages for them to contact me again)
Do you think this is a good sign and that I could be working for them pretty soon?
I would appreciate any help on this, cheers!0 -
EO are classed a mobile grades therefore they can post you anywhere in realistic comuting distance they can also change your work location with very little notice (ask me how i know this)
I would still keep phoning and pestering them for a start date ans staff number, it will come. They seem to wait for market trends to change then employ new staff in bulk so any training can be done en-masse.
You do know you will be on a fixed term contract.
It's quite a good job EO you could have a number of different roles which often will be decided by the Jobcentre or Benefits office manager when you start depending on you previous background and aspirations0 -
thanks astralpilot
yeah,I have been calling them every week to get any updates, and as you all know, they will give you very limited info. the thing is they never mentioned any merit list to me, I dont know...
I guess I will keep on trying to reach them on the phone and see if I can find out anything else.0 -
Things are getting more confusing by the day.
I got the "you have been successful letter" in November and have just received my Disclosure form, I also know that my references have been contacted.
I got in touch with Newcastle today asking about a start date and got the following reply:
MessageRE: IRC61883
With reference to your email dated 29 December 2009, regarding the above selection exercise.
I refer to the waiting list letter issued to you on 12 December 2009 and can clarify you are placed 11th on this list.
Jobcentreplus are in a recruiting position until the end of December. They will be in touch with you during that time if they are able to offer you a post. Otherwise they will contact you in January.
I should advise that, whilst Employee Services Resourcing administers selection activity on behalf of Jobcentreplus, any offer of employment is made by the local business area and will be dependant upon individual business needs.
I appreciate that this is a difficult time for anyone awaiting a start date and that you will be disappointed with my reply. I would like to thank you for your patience and regret that, until Jobcentreplus provides further information, I am unable to give you any indication regarding when the business will be in a position to offer employment.
Yours sincerely

I have since informed Maureen that I have never received a letter mentioning any waiting list and have asked for a copy - it looks like I have been removed from the "you are successful" to the "you are on a waiting list" conundrum
