A wee update for you all! Still enjoying my new B & Q job. However, owing to company policy, I will not receive my first pay till 31/12. That means six weeks without being paid. Still had no word from Tax Credits either. Phoned DWP about my back to work job grant yesterday and it turns out that they had "forgotten" to process it as they were "run off their feet" just now (are there THAT many people getting new jobs? - the current economic climate would indicate otherwise lol!). Anyway, I read on here that you can apply for a crisis loan if you have just started a job and are required to work a month in lieu. So I phoned Clydebank JCP office this morning at 11 and spoke to a VERY nice lady who took me through the application process and by 2.15 this afternoon I was at my local Jobcentre office collecting a giro to tide me over until payday, plus she had contacted tax credits and found out that I will get money from them next monday and she had contacted the job grant folk and given them a prod too. Well done Clydebank!
  • So I tried to find out which district office my details would have been passed to, and lo and behold, no one has them. I called Newcastle and spoke to initially rude man, who advised that I could not contact the district offices, they would contact me. And then I received an email stating that my employment checks were in process and my personal referees have been written to today.

So, to put it plainly - no one knows what the hell is going on. It makes me wonder why we're all so eager to work for them, if they can't find their own backsides with a map!

Your checks need to come back clear before your file is passed onto "business services"

you must be on stage 3 right, I think stage 1 is 3 mins, stage 2 is 7 and stage 3 upto 15 mins.

    That's correct. How about yourself?

That's nice. I don't know a lot about the whole benefit system to give that sort of customer service (yet!).

Well done:T Glad they have sorted something for you.
Looks like you made the right decision with B & Q as well:j

But the first call I made, I was told that my file had been passed on. Why say that if it hadn't? I guess the lady assumed. And you know what they say about 'assume'...

I'm just glad I was expecting these delays, as it took a friend of mine 5 months from start of application to get a start date. For those who weren't expecting this lengthy process, it must be infuriating!

    Hi,

I got "the call" at the beginning of last week (AO, Nottingham area) & I start on Monday (7th Dec) :j. I didn't get any choice & I've got my least preferred location (just because of the distance), I got the impression that if I wanted to wait for somewhere closer that I might be waiting for quite some time (not many positions available). It's a 12 month contract, which seems to be the same as everybody else who has has the call recently. Still it's a job & I'm very very happy!

I had my interview in the middle of July, my success (waiting list) letter at the end of July, & CRB back in September. I have no idea where I was on the list (I suspect it wasn't very high up).

It's been a long wait but I'm very excited :D
