Just a quickie for all you newly appointed Band C Personal Advisers - are you enjoying your new roles and would you recommend it? Got to make final decision for acceptance. Do I leave my current temporary job for similar length of time to accept new post?
Without meaning to pry, is one of them better paid than the other and/or do you think either of them have better potential to become permanent?

I left my previous temporary role last week even though it had a good chance of becoming permanent because the wages were lower and I think I will find this role more interesting, can only keep our fingers crossed that contracts are extended next year.

After a few days I wouldn't be qualified I don't think to give a definitive answer, but so far the job seems interesting and rewarding and I'm hopeful that the future will be promising.

Hi - wages are very similar - current job slighly higher paid per hour but less hours (I like the flexibility I have with 25 hrs per week with nearly 6 weeks holiday pa). It's the full time work that is putting me off with 4 weeks holiday. I previously worked in a school for 14 years so used to having plenty of hols. Job is subjectt to funding!!

Oooh very difficult decision then, your hours and holidays sound like bliss!! Any chance of you going in for half a day and having a more in-depth chat with some people in the role that have been there for a while? personally I think I would try and do this.....

your hours are also very good. I've finally been told my working hours today will be 0830-1700 and that was longer than I expected for core hours, I thought it would be 9-5 and in Plymouth we have been told we will be opening Saturdays at some point after christmas which is in the new contracts, it's not something that overly worries me, but if hours are important to you, you may think differently?

BTW please don't make your decision on the basis of my local office though as I'm am brand new and wouldn't want to influence you, especially as I don't know if other areas are different!!

Had the phone call to make final decision at 8.30am! I had to make mind up on the spot and said thanks but no thanks! Feel like phoning back an changing my mind but hopefullyI have made the right choice! Good luck with the future x
  • Business partner is just the district office, so if you want to speak to someone regarding an offer. Contact your district office and ask to speaking to someone regarding your IRC. But it may turn out like it did with me that Newcastle might mess up and pass on your file to a different district, not your local one...

    hope this helps

Thank you thunderb0lt. I'm just not sure which district I need to be contacting. Its very silly of me not to know that, but I don't recall it ever being mentioned. I'm going to try calling my local Job Centre during my lunch hour, and see if they can point me in the right direction.

I've contacted the people in Newcastle regarding my current situation and the little gimp they employ to spin their line says that if you don't hear from them in December then you will hear from them in the New Year regarding your status ([sarcasm]Next year, really? As opposed to last year?[/sarcasm]).

My guess is this is management speak for if you don't hear in December then you will hear of your rejection in January.

Luckily I just received a phonecall for an interview for another IRC so if this one goes tits up, I have that one too.
  • So I tried to find out which district office my details would have been passed to, and lo and behold, no one has them. I called Newcastle and spoke to initially rude man, who advised that I could not contact the district offices, they would contact me. And then I received an email stating that my employment checks were in process and my personal referees have been written to today.

So, to put it plainly - no one knows what the hell is going on. It makes me wonder why we're all so eager to work for them, if they can't find their own backsides with a map!

  • Just received this response from Stephanie Marshall regarding the South East Wales campaign:

    "RE: IRC61462

Thank you for your email on 6th November 2009

Jobcentre Plus are currently undertaking a piece of work to review their
staffing situation and future requirements. Hopefully Resourcing will
soon be in a position to provide all successful candidates with more
information, however we have been advised that this review may not be
    completed before late November.

I can confirm that our records show that you have cleared your pre
    appointment checks

Whilst Resourcing administer selection activity on behalf of Jobcentre
Plus I should advise that any decisions regarding offers of employment
are made by the local business area. Regrettably until we receive
further information from Jobcentre Plus I am unable to advise as to when
postings will be made from the recruitment exercise.

I realise that you may be disappointed with this reply however I regret
that I am unable to give you any further information at present. Should
you have any additional enquiries please do not hesitate to contact me
    again."

I then called Stephanie who told me that I am on the merit list for this campaign which originally requested 30 staff, then she told me that I am number 66, which effectively rules me out of ever getting a job there wouldn't you think?

As it happens I managed to get a low paid job very locally two weeks ago, but I'm not sure this is going to work out. I will stick with it until something better comes along, but this is very depressing news!

I wasn't sure whether or not to post this as it is more depressing news regarding this IRC.

I spoke to the JCP in Bridgend last week who said that there are no more posts/movement until March 2010. I read the email I got from Newcastle saying that they were waiting for Bridgend JCP to get back and got quite a mixed reaction from the officer. She said that they were waiting for them...swings and roundabouts again.

Her advice was to keep looking elsewhere .. so not good news I'm afraid. :(

Wondered if there was anyone else still waiting on IRC61099 at all? Thanks.
