    Hi Mbcomper

Thanks for the kind words and will be nice to have somewhere comfy to rest my behind whilst waiting.:rotfl:

Currently in process of instigating tribunal so may need some advice/encouragement at some point !! Thanks. :o

Received my crb check yesterday and although I know that means nothing, at least I know things are moving.

Think Natomar is probably correct regarding the shortened waiting (and waiting and waiting and waiting) list.

It is nice to have people on here to "speak" to and I wish you all the very best.

    God Bless to you too.

    Hi Kingy44

    Hi all,

I haven't posted on here for a while because I got sooooo sick of waiting for a start date, I had more or less decided that this job was never going to happen...

    BUT

Completely unexpected I have today received "THE CALL" offering me a position. YAY!!!

My start date is 30th November.

I'd just like to wish all you guys the best of luck and to say thanks, this thread has been a great comfort and you guys offered a lot of support when it was needed in the 4 months since my interview.

    You guys rock!!
  • Well done and congrats to all who have had the call recently! Thats fab! Hopefully not long now for the rest of you!

As for me, im in my 3rd week and its still good so far. This week ive been training in Falkirk (customer service training) and its been pretty repetitive as i done all the e-learning on it beforehand, but still, its going well! Tomorrow/friday i have my keeping safe training in dunfermline, LMS training next week, FJR training afterwards...hopefully after all that i can finally start doing the actual job! Shadowing is good, but only so much you can learn from watching eh! lol.

anyway i hope everyone else is also enjoying it xx

    Hi Whiskeyman

No, I do not mind saying what my disability is, I have spinal arthritis. This has been compounded from two serious car accidents. I also have arthritis in both hands, this doesn't assist me much when using my crutch.

My mom and my nan both have/had rheunatoid arthritis, my mom told me that it was hereditary. However, I have always been optomistic and thought it may miss me out. I'm nearly 40 and in the last 2.5 years I feel like I have aged another 20 years.

I just find it very embarassing and emotionally destroying having to explain to people, especially at interviews that I have a disability. I feel that they are impressed with me at the outset, they congratulate me on my cv etc. and when I tell them I have a disability the mood changes drastically - so much for equal opportunities.

This is the main reason why I applied for an EO role with the DWP. I applied to a large Union who were supposed to be Disabled Friendly Employers, I never even received a reply. I had an interview yesterday, they said they would let me knowby the end of the week. They also gave me an application form after the interview - strange! I'm supposed to fill it in and return it, I'll wait for the call first and take it from there as I am sick of wasting my time.

I was so moved when I read your post. You have been so supportive to me (and everyone else on here) yet never a whisper about your difficulties. It makes me feel ashamed for having moaned about my so-called "problems" when you have to face far worse just to "get through the day". I truly wish you the best of luck and hope that you get "the call" very soon. The DWP will be fortunate to get you, with your kindness and empathy. ALL THE LUCK IN THE WORLD. Heather x

Is anyone waiting for a position in London? I see new people every week coming to training so I figured DWP are slowly taking people on board.

Where are you working in London???

    Hi Mandie2106

Glad to hear you are getting on OK and enjoying your new role. It's good to hear what people are getting up to once they have started employment. BTW can you tell me what LMS stands for.

If I ever get a job with the DWP, I feel I need to know all the Lingo 1st :)

  • I finally got round to emailing them - and found out my merit list position (Im hoping there are lots of jobs and noone wants it in my area ;) )

Do the Pre-Recruitment checks include the references or are they done after?
    Hi Bufty

Yes Pre recruitment checks do include references. However in many cases they do not contact them. If they can verify your work history with HRMC, who are co-operating with them in this exercise, then your refs will not be contacted. Also from what I understand they only do the checks on the number of candidates that they have vacancies for, even though it may be a while before you get posted. Perhaps Sammyjammy can verify this.

    Hi Heather

    How's B&Q looking after you?

Please don't apologise for having a moan about your problems. We all have a moan ocassionally, me included, it's only natural to vent and let of steam. That's why this forum is so great, cuz we all get on and support each other through the good and bad.

Thanks for your concern and good wishes. I'm sure I'll come up trumps before long.

P.S. Can I pass your details to the DWP for my personal reference - only joking :)
  • Hi Whiskeyman

I am sorry to hear that your wife suffers with arthritis too.

Thanks for your support, I'd like print off all of your messages of support and take them with me to my interviews, I wonder what response I would get from prospective employers then?

Hey and don't worry when I do get the call, I'll be shouting as loud as I can so don't forget the earmuffs lol :)
