Just received this response from Stephanie Marshall regarding the South East Wales campaign:
"RE: IRC61462
Thank you for your email on 6th November 2009
Jobcentre Plus are currently undertaking a piece of work to review their
staffing situation and future requirements. Hopefully Resourcing will
soon be in a position to provide all successful candidates with more
information, however we have been advised that this review may not be
completed before late November.
I can confirm that our records show that you have cleared your pre
appointment checks
Whilst Resourcing administer selection activity on behalf of Jobcentre
Plus I should advise that any decisions regarding offers of employment
are made by the local business area. Regrettably until we receive
further information from Jobcentre Plus I am unable to advise as to when
postings will be made from the recruitment exercise.
I realise that you may be disappointed with this reply however I regret
that I am unable to give you any further information at present. Should
you have any additional enquiries please do not hesitate to contact me
again."
I then called Stephanie who told me that I am on the merit list for this campaign which originally requested 30 staff, then she told me that I am number 66, which effectively rules me out of ever getting a job there wouldn't you think?
As it happens I managed to get a low paid job very locally two weeks ago, but I'm not sure this is going to work out. I will stick with it until something better comes along, but this is very depressing news!0 -
Congrats to Eraserhead & thank you to unluckyone for the advice, after my postings yesterday:-
Got on my soap box last night and wrote to 4 local MP's!!! got it out of my system anyway, today I rang local JCP manager was not available!! then I emailed complaints & resourcing again regarding no call back! then 5 minutes after I had sent the email I got a call from Newcastle IRC 61153, the reason new vacancies are being advertised on DWP website are due to more staff required for work in the new year, the people already on merit/waiting lists (no one has been posted yet) will start to be called within the next 2 weeks, I asked so the people on lists will get jobs, he replied I cannot say definitely but due to the readvertising more vacancies it looks very optimistic!! So good news from DWP for a change!!
Whilst I was writing this I received an email asking for my preferred location, I wasn't asked at the interview!!
I LIVE IN HOPE!!!0 -

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but aren't they the ones who give you THE CALL? Business Support at the office you applied for?
Hi HappyAsLarry

That sounds great - you must be getting near the end of the journey - and what a journey lol Fingers crossed that you get the call in the not so distant future.

Re IRC61153,
I'm a first time poster, but have been following this thread for many months now.
I too got an email from Greater Manchester East and West district office today asking for my preferred locations.
It is encouraging that people might call within 2 weeks but unfortunately for me after all this time I won't be able to accept the post.
My leg is in plaster for the next 10 weeks, followed by a couple of months of intensive physiotherapy.
I am hoping that they will offer me one of the positions they are looking to fill in the new year as I will be back on my feet then.0 -

I hope so, I've waited this long it would be a nightmare to miss out because of a bad accident.
Good luck to you also.0 -
unluckyone wrote: »Hello,
Welcome to the forum.
Are you awaiting a job with the DWP?
You'll find that it's mostly regular posters on this thread and I'm positive you will find the posts accurate and well informed.
Sam has given me some very good advice on this thread and he is correct on what he says regarding the law being a guidance or minimum level and not what a business must stick to.
It's very favourable if the DWP treat fixed term contracts in such a way as Sam advises.
Thank you for the welcome. I'm a DWP employee on a fixed term contract within my 6 month end date and they def haven't given me any notice! And my contract does not state anywhere that they have to, although I was told be my manager that they will try and give 3 months notice, but they are not obliged to. So I stand by what I originally said that the 6 months applies to permanent staff on redundancy notice. Although I've only joined DWP this year my background is Civil Service and they have never offered 6 months notice for FTC's, I'm also a former union rep and know this to be true.0 -
