Too bluddy grumpy as far as i can see, if you hate everthing here so much leave. And sorry that you are too intelligent or experienced for a job within the DWP, for some (me included) they would make a real go at the job, im my own experience i have never had a problem with the DPW or JC, they can be a bit slow at time but i would rather have slow than not giving a damn about customers like most private companies have. Private companies are run alot worse than none private as the buck starts and end in the profit margin.0

I have to say, we can all moan and groan (and we all have lol) but if your on a waiting list letter it does state they will hope to offer you a position. People in this situation i feel for, truly, but its not a job offer or job guarantee and if they are waiting a while, well it does say 12 month waiting list, so its to be expected. I dont mean that in a bad way cos i know how hard it is to wait for the call. Those on a merit list WILL be posted. Its been said enough times....ok so its went all to pot so people have no ideas when or where they will be posted, but slowly the ball is starting to roll. Keep ur chin up everyone.....and good luck!0

And my contract does not state anywhere that they have to, although I was told be my manager that they will try and give 3 months notice, but they are not obliged to. So I stand by what I originally said that the 6 months applies to permanent staff on redundancy notice. Although I've only joined DWP this year my background is Civil Service and they have never offered 6 months notice for FTC's, I'm also a former union rep and know this to be true.
I have worked for DWP for over 19yrs and I think you misunderstood my initial post, we are talking about where contracts are terminated early, if you contract ends when it is supposed to of course you don't get notice.
I work in HO so it could be that your manager has not seen the papers I have seen, I work in Workforce Planning management and we have to know far in advance what we will have staffing wise and what we can do about it if we have too many.
You can stand by what you say as much as you like."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

Has anyone ever gone for a job in the private sector and been put on a waiting list?? or do they say "yep, you are the person we want, this is the job and salary, when can you start.."..
How many private sector companies have recruited 60000 staff in the space of a year, all needing disclosures, references etc? And you can bet your bottom dollar private companies DO have waiting lists but they phrase it 'we'll keep you on file' or words to that effect. Perhaps DWP could have worded it better. Lesson to be learned.desperado2 wrote: »Recruiting is a diffcult process to get right for sure, but Tesco can hire 1500 folk in 3 months no sweat, yet the Department for Work and Pensions cant decide if it needs anyone, how many it does or doesn't need, and takes so blessed long to recruit, a third of the people it says yes to have changed their mind or gone elsewhere..
Tesco staff aren't dealing with extremely sensitive personal information about you and I that has to be controlled very carefully. Their staff don't have to be vetted to the degree DWP staff do and most importantly Tesco don't answer to the treasury and don't rely on taxpayers money. Not everyone passes the checks either, hence the need for a waiting list.desperado2 wrote: »How do you make it better? simple! you offer a job to someone the minute all your checking is done successfully, and if you find 30 competent folk for a job and only have 20 places, you offer the last 10 a place on a wait list, and give them first refusal for every job at the same grade as and when it comes available! it's not rocket science..;)
And that's exactly how it's done. :T0 -

My apologies. We've obviously been debating 2 different issues. The above point was the one I was trying to make. :A0 -

I agree totally. They should have doen the head count BEFORE the recruitment drive, not afterwards, and shortlisted the applicants accordingly. Instead they done a mass recruit, got way more people than necessary and then decided they better check how many jobs they had. Its a shame though cos so many people got there hopes up and now there are bound to be hundreds on waiting lists that wont get a post within the 12 months (im pretty sure this forum only holds about a very small percent of those people lol). The people on the merit lists tho, im pretty sure they will get posted. I might be wrong tho, you never know with DWP.
I dont however think it could ever be a case of "ok you passed the interview, you have the job, when can u start". Because so many people want these jobs and the scorign system is the same for everyone, how would they choose who to employ? I think the merit list system is a good one, if done properly!
Also in the last 24 hours i have had 2 private mails telling me i should be grateful for the job i was given rather than use this forum to ask advice on wether to apply for the higher up job or not (i wont name names cos im not into that sort of public attack) but in reply to that, i have used this forum for many months and have been there right beside you, waiting for the call. I had my interview in May and only started my position on Monday so i think its fair to say, yes i am one of the lucky ones, but it took a while to get there, and if i feel like the people on here could help with advice then i have no problems about asking for it, cos we have all been through a lot together! And maybe, rather than attacking people in private mail, it would be better to voice your thoughts in public, so everyone could see what some people are REALLY like on here!0 -

WELL SAID!! Besides, if one does want to move up to a higher position in JC then they do need to think about it now because of the length of time the application process takes. For e.g, the application process has taken several months for some and so those who have got a 12month contract with job centre plus might as well apply while they are still in a job.0 -
