  • I still haven't heard anything but I have secured a local job although it's not exactly what I want, but there is no travelling, and the pay is very poor. I will have to wait and see if anything comes of this DWP thing, but I'm not holding my breath.

Anyway let us know if anything happens!
Got a response eventually last week... but still no call. I thought that 26 was quite a good placing but who knows. Will try ringing again tomorrow - fingers, toes etc crossed ;)

Thought the info might help though.

You are 26th on the merit list. JCP are reviewing there staff numbers at the minute so I am unable to give a timescale when start dates will be offered. The business will get in contact once they have more information.

  • Regarding IRC 62644 - Cheshire, Warrington and Halton area:

    Anyone heard anything?

I've just received an e-mail about half an hour ago asking me for my preferred locations. I know some people are asked this before interview, but I don't know, seems strange that they're asking me now when I'm expecting a call... it might just be the last thing they needed to check, as all of my other checks have been completed.
By the way, this e-mail was sent to me from someone who works for Business Support at Cheshire, Halton and Warrington District Office - obviously the same office as the IRC I'm applying for.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but aren't they the ones who give you THE CALL? Business Support at the office you applied for?

Correct, the actual district/office that has the vacancies will call

was your original IRC for a specific BDC or contact centre or location?
my IRC was for a specific BDC so at interview they didn't have to ask me my preferred location.
if people are applying for a generic position they usually ask preferred location at interview.
someone from HR called me yesterday and said this preferred location task was something they were doing with a view to checking who was available and where they could travel too.

    Thanks a lot :)

Well, I'm not going to get my hopes up too much, but I'm going to take that as good news, the fact that it's them who have got in touch. Must mean they've got all of my stuff there. I can't be too far off now!

Although I'm not holding my breath, either...

It was for a number of locations - like Warrington, Ellesmere Port, Widnes, etc., but the actual role is for a JobCentre Plus office.

I did indeed find it odd that they're asking me now, when I'd read that some people get asked that question before they even have an interview, but it's the fact that it's Business Support at my IRC's office that have gotten in touch that makes it interesting...well, for me anyway :D

Thanks for the info, though. I know all of my other checks and everything else they do have been completed, so I'm hoping this is the last check they have to do.

Edit: Also, I was told in the e-mail that if I didn't reply with my preferred locations by 13th of November, it'd be deemed that I was no longer interested. I think this is the final stage. Come the 13th, they'll have everyone's preferred locations and they can then go about placing them and making THE CALL!
  • As a new poster I'm not allowed to post links but if you google 'fixed term contract notice period' the first link that comes is low and behold directgov, which quite clearly shows that little or no notice is required for fixed term contracts. I stand by my original post, the 6 months rule only applies to permanent staff given notice of redundancy. If you still have doubt please post supporting evidence, otherwise chek your facts before posting wrong and potentially disruptive to peoples lives information.

    Hello,

    Welcome to the forum.

Are you awaiting a job with the DWP?

You'll find that it's mostly regular posters on this thread and I'm positive you will find the posts accurate and well informed.

Sam has given me some very good advice on this thread and he is correct on what he says regarding the law being a guidance or minimum level and not what a business must stick to.
It's very favourable if the DWP treat fixed term contracts in such a way as Sam advises.

I think it is very positive news. I am in the North West and the regional recruitment co-ordinator called me yesterday (she was following up on a complaint I had made regarding the sheer lack of communication), she advised that the business support teams in each of the five districts were conducting this exercise as the Jobcentres were in need of staff.
Hoping that the Jobcentre needing staff in your area is one that you ticked on your preferred location list then really, it does look positive.
She told me they were looking to place people before the end of November, however, that may just be for the North West.

    Sam,
Are you able to put any light on this?

  • Hi,
I too had a call yesterday asking if I was still interested in IRC 60862 and a couple of questions regarding location. Was told I'd get a call next week with my office location and start date.
