It is not wrong.
It is Temporary casual contracts that can be ended without notice."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

As a new poster I'm not allowed to post links but if you google 'fixed term contract notice period' the first link that comes is low and behold directgov, which quite clearly shows that little or no notice is required for fixed term contracts. I stand by my original post, the 6 months rule only applies to permanent staff given notice of redundancy. If you still have doubt please post supporting evidence, otherwise chek your facts before posting wrong and potentially disruptive to peoples lives information.0 -

The man and woman interviewing took the whole ghastly "mum's purse" bit in their stride and told me about their own aged parents and then asked me if I was eligible for the Jobseekers work trial thing (which I am). They both gave me their mobile numbers in case there is anything I want to ask.
Yeah, don't imagine they will forget my interview in a hurry lol!!!!!:o
I would bribe them with the £1000 back to work thingamajig!:rolleyes:0 -

Anyone else with knews on this IRC pls post.
Thanks.
Hi there,
I know that they have not recruited anyone for this IRC yet, as I was told by email last week and that, as far as I am concerned, I am on the Merit List.

You'll never guess what, I just got the call!
So after practically giving up hope the past few days after hearing the latest news, I couldn't believe it when I answered the phone. It gets better though, I live in Norwich but the vacancy I was waiting on was in Lowestoft - a 40min train journey away. The lady on the phone offered me a position in Norwich though, at the Jobcentre which is about a 15min walk from home!
I guess this is why I got lucky and still recieved the call, because the Lowestoft position was a Contact Centre one, I'm guessing the Norwich one won't be. Maybe they are trying to accomodate people from the Lowestoft merit list into other local Job Centres.
Anyway I start on Nov 30th and am over the moon!0 -

I appreciate you have no knowledge of me and you dispute my facts but I resent your comments.
I know what I say is true as I have read it, I cannot provide you with written evidence that what I say is true as the document is a DWP internal document that I have seen as part of my role."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

Here is your link http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Understandingyourworkstatus/Fixedtermworkers/DG_175138
You need to understand that this is as the law states, it does not specifically apply to DWP employees which my information does.
Just because the law states minimum rights it doesn't mean employers cannot offer preferential terms.

brilliant, congratulations! i bet you are well happy!
what did they offer you - 12 month fixed term contract?0 -
Erm she didn't actually say, and such was my excitement I didn't ask. She just said it would be the same as Lowestoft - a fixed term contract. But the Lowestoft one was an 18 month contract - I wouldn't be suprised however if this one ends up being a 12 month one judging by what people on here seemed to be offered lately.
I don't really care too much to be honest, 18 months, 12 months, it's a job at least - my first since graduating. Plus we all know it's much easier to get another job once you are actually in employment, I'm just glad this horrible period of post graduation wilderness is over!0
