They have to give you either six months notice of the contract ending or six months pay in lieu so plenty of time to look for a new job if they do end it early.

    Sam

I should also have said if you have less than six months left on your contract then the period of notice only applies to what is left before it ends.

Can anyone tell me the best time of day to phone Newcastle? Everytime I ring, I can never get through to anyone.

Well done to those who got the call and those who got other jobs!

The one time I called up Newcastle, I got through at 10am but I couldn't say for sure that's a good time to call them...

Sorry to bother you further but it says requisite period of notice but later on in the contract it says less than 4 years service they only give 5 weeks notice. So if i have 8 months left on my contract they HAVE to give me 6 months?????

Is that info on the intranet anywhere??????

    Thanks so much

  • Further to my post yesterday, went for my interview at B&Q today. I THINK it went fairly well, but it is so difficult to tell. I would absolutely LOVE this job. Its part time for 6 months and then full time after that (permament). The pay is £9 an hour plus 20% discount at their stores, plus twice yearly bonuses, stacks of holidays, uniform (yes, even in the office!) and the most laid-back working environment I have ever seen. They are going to let me know by Monday. Sadly, they had dozens of people to interview (Dundee is an unemployment blackspot - mind you, where isnt these days?) so my chances of getting the job are a wee bit slim, to say the least. There were folk with Degrees being interviewed after me (I can read upside-down!) so one of them is bound to be chosen. All I have done for 18 years is bring up my kids, which is hardly in the same league. :o

Hey Heatherblether, a lot of employers like life experience as opposed to a degree, so don't be dis-heartened....wishing you lots of luck...Jx

I wouldn't say that! There is a lot you can learn from life experience such as the responsibility of raising a family which you cannot get with a degree. At the end of the day they will offer you the job if they think you have what it takes to do the job well. Best of luck x

Don't be so hard on yourself, having a degree mean no where near as much as it used to as they are ten a penny, most of my friends have degrees im one of the very few that doesn't and yet im the one who has a job and none of them do, some even have very insignificant degrees e.g. a 3rd in Media which isn't going to really help. Anyways!! be positive it's more about who you are than what you have nowadays!
