Good luck UNLUCKYONE for tomorrow's assessment. As you say, needs must. I am regretting "winging it" for the temp job I am in just now. It is SO boring - watching paint dry would be more exciting. I can't imagine anyone wanting to do it on a permanent basis. I certainly won't be.
good luck, fingers xd for you!

Just a quick update from what my job centre (cambridge) told me today.
All the small offices are full to capacity and no longer need staff and the larger ones have more staff than they need and don`t know what to do with them!
Wonder where that leaves us so called `successful` applicants!

That seems to be pretty much true.

also mandie2106, what about targets, was this like conversion rate?
you have to get so many sales from so many calls.
could you give me an example of one of your targets?

Hey, sorry it took so long to reply, i seem to have missed out a whole page when i looked earlier today. By word emphasis i mean emphasise to the customer the good parts of the product...ie repeat the fact that there is "60 days free" after u have read them the price (the price they might not like but repeating the free period afterwards, emphasising it, makes them focus more on that than the price...if u get what i mean). In my job i sold everything from insurance to setanta sports, sky, cable. It was an outsourcing company so done work for lots of companies. Targets vary depending on what u are selling. Usually a campaign runs for 2 days before the target is set, and it is set according to how well it has done in those 2 days (most companies set targets this kind of way)...so the targets are usually achievable. And yes it is for example a 20% conversion rate (1 sale in 5 customers)....new starts dont have to worry much about targets until they are used to the job and find there selling strategies (believe me, after a few days as a new start with little or no sales, you find a strategy that will work for you lol)

Outbound sales isnt always easy to do, sales people are the people we all love to hate lol, but working in a sales environment is fun....

at last I have found someone who has applied for the same irc as myself, I too received success letter dated 6th sept and CRB 21st september, I also know that my references have been contacted and returned, but have heard nothing since, I have today e-mailed employee services resourcing and am awaiting a reply after getting nowhere on the phone. thanks to everyone who has posted on here with information which has really helped in finding the right people to contact, i will post when i have further information from e-mail.

I too was on this IRC, received success letter on 9th September, CRB 22nd September, sent a few emails and made a number of phone calls and actually got the call last Wednesday, so they must be working on it. Hope you hear soon.

    Hi all
Just happened across this website again, its the union for JCP. Take another look, www.pcsedinburgh.co.uk then click on 'latest on current recruitment campaign'. Makes interesting reading! see what you think.

    Morning cap123,

Thanks for the link, it made interesting reading and pretty much mirrors what the Hyde BDC manager told me yesterday.

I'm going to copy his email to here and you can have a read.

Yesterday I also spoke to Hyde BDC deputy manager who gave me an explanation that when the recession hit bad and we had so many people coming out of work and onto benefits, DWP went frantic to recruit further staff to manager the extra workload.
And now they think the recession is easing off they have more staff then they know what to do with.
But the NEW adverts for AO and EO contridicts this comment doesn't it.

I also spoke to someone in complaints yesterday and in a nutshell, aside from apologising that my expectations had not been met, they told me to forget about a role with the DWP and look elsewhere.

This completely added insult to injury as DWP have placed new adverts for AO and EO in my area. So why on earth should or would I give up hope.
I thought that was a pretty unhelpful thing for them to say really.

    It's a joke.

Why tell people have have more staff they know what to do with and then place new adverts!!!!

My email reply from Hyde BDC Manager yesterday.

As a result of the very significant increases in claims received as result of the economic downturn, Jobcentre Plus has undertaken numerous recruitment exercises during the last 12 months. Jobcentre Plus has three delivery arms each providing a distinct part of the service. We have Contact Centres (CC) whose primary role at the moment is to take new claims over the phone, Jobcentres who provide the face to face service for both benefit related interviews and job broking support and Benefit Delivery Centres (BDC) who are the financial part of the organisation, processing benefit claims and handling telephone enquiries from existing customers.

Hyde BDC conducted a major recruitment exercise in October 2008 and a large number of new staff joined us in several tranches between January and June at which point the list of successful candidates was exhausted and all posts required for the work assigned to us were filled. However, during a review of the Jobcentre Plus estate Hyde BDC was identified as a site that could physically accommodate more staff and a decision was taken to transfer additional work into the site and conduct another recruitment exercise to fill the new vacancies that would arise as a result.

The exercise you took part in was completed in August and the original plan was to offer some candidates positions to start training courses in October as the additional work was due to arrive in January. Unfortunately, in September we were advised that CC's and BDC's were to undergo a major re-structuring exercise and permission to recruit further was effectively suspended along with any plans to import or export work pending further announcements from our Board of Directors. We have now had that announcement and it seems unlikely that the recruitment suspension will be lifted in the near future.

I am sorry that this is disappointing news for you. However, our recruitment advert does state that, although primarily run to fill posts in Hyde BDC, successful candidates could potentially be offered a position in another part of Jobcentre Plus in the North West region. The list of successful candidates from the Hyde BDC recruitment exercise is now held by our Human Resources team and they will consider whether there are any vacancies that need to be filled in our network of Jobcentres. If there are vacancies they will contact people in merit order according to the score each individual achieved at the interview stage.

I hope you will appreciate that our recruitment exercise was conducted with genuine intent and I apologise for the frustration you must feel as a result of the change in departmental policy.

I understand that you have recently spoken to ___________ by telephone and she has passed your details on to our HR team asking that someone from within that domain contact you direct to discuss further.

    Unluckyone...

It just beggers belief that the organisation whose sole purpose is to help people into work can get it so wrong when they are recruiting themselves.. I mean who does the forward planning for these people? I simply do not accept the "exercise was conducted with genuine intent"...Did they just pluck recruitment figures out of the air? You can imagine some management/recruitment guru has been paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to create this mess on a powerpoint presentation... Utter utter bewildering madness..

As for continuing to recruit, I think that would be almost laughable if I didn't know just how disrespectful it is on us, and also how frustrating it is being part of the recruitment process and having the DWP play games with my life for 4 months..

I have complained to Louise Perry about my treatment, won't do any good or change anything but made me feel a whole lot better to let them know I think they are screwed up big time and have been disrespectful of the people they are supposed to serve.
