Got a phone call out of the blue today for a position I applied for ages ago and had forgotten about. Got an interview tomorrow morning. Its for a permanent position with B & Q in their office. £9 an hour. Suit and blouse pressed already........:D0 -

Newcastle are just saying no start date confirmed yet and it is up to JCP in Milton Keynes. So frustrated as I have been unemployed 7 months and no longer get any Job Seekers Allowance !
From reading your post, I think as you have been unemployed for seven months, your contribution based JSA might have expired, it only last for six months.
As I don't know your specific situation and based solely on what you have written I assume you can now apply for Income Based JSA (assuming you don't have a lot of money in the bank, I am not sure what the threshold is, but they can tell you at the job centre).
I know this as my contribution based JSA expired last month and I had to apply for the income based one. I got it without any hitch.0 -

Contributions JSA is only payable for 182 days or six months, if you have a partner working over 24 hours or savings of over £16,000 you are ineligible for Income based JSA and all payment stops, people continue to sign for NI credits."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

Excellent explanation. You learn so much from this wee forum!:beer:0 -
I am in a similar situation, I can no longer recieve JSA as I didn't qualify for NI based JSA as I'd not worked enough apparently (I'm only 24 and have only had part time jobs whilst a student at university etc), so had to have my JSA done on an income assessed basis. This was ok for a while but now my partner has a job as a teacher so I no longer qualify. This is of course understandable but puts me in a difficult situation, it is really not comfortable or fair living off of her, and we thought this would only be for the very short term as I was so high on the merit list and expected to be given a start date soon. Now after today's news I have no idea what will happen. If my prospective DWP job has gone the same was as the Hyde job and I can't find other work real soon it may be the case that we both have to move back in with parents etc, having to put our belongings in storage, arrggh I don't even want to think about it. This really is so annoying. Hopefully I'll get a response to my email tomorrow, though I fear it will only confirm the worst as unluckyone has already stated.0

I was told this week by Newcastle that they do not do any checks until they have heard from the business centre how many people they need. At my interview 16/9/09. I was told to use the Newcastle address for my CRB and then once processed they send you a copy from Newcastle, apparently it's supposed to speed things up.
I applied for IRC 62504 EO for Birmingham & Solihull, West Midlands, I was told mid October that I was position 67/91. Then when I rang again this week I was told they have passed 28 people for jobs and they are currently in the process of doing their pre-recruitment checks. Therefore my position on the merit list is now is 68/125 whereas I was position 96 before??? I asked if my recruitment checks had been done and was told no, only when I have been chosen from the merit list do they process my application further due to the costs involved.0 -
Just a quick update from what my job centre (cambridge) told me today.
All the small offices are full to capacity and no longer need staff and the larger ones have more staff than they need and don`t know what to do with them!
Wonder where that leaves us so called `successful` applicants!0 -
Hi,
Yes I am referring to IRC 62504, no worries about the questions, I'll answer as best as I can
I only know it will be at least a month as that is what I have been told by Newcastle, they emailed me saying they won't know anything for at least a month.
My office had no problem with me applying for EO and were in fact very encouraging. It seems they are happy for people to progress. My opinion is they want to keep good people and not see them leave for other industries because they are frustrated by their lack of progress. If I am really lucky, due to me being new and on training a position may come up that allows me to stay in my office. Normally promotion means a change of office. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as my office has a good team who work well together and I am very happy there.
All I know is rumour and speculation, nothing is 100% confirmed to me. It seems most offices in Bham Solihull are close to full staffing and any vacancies have been filled from the current waiting list. While on training at district in Erdington recently I was told that they were looking for 120 EO's for IRC62504's waiting list, I have no way of confirming this is correct.
FJR is an AO band B position, Fortnightly Jobsearch Review. Basically interviewing fortnightly (& weekly) customers on their jobsearch and answering any queries we can.
Hope that helps!

I just sat here for 15 mins typing you a reply and my internet crashed grrrr - try again lol
I rang Newcastle mid October on receipt of my successful letter and spoke to a guy called Derek. He told me I was 67/91. I was disappointed to say the least. However, after reading everyone's experience on the forum I am trying to stay positive. I called Newcastle again this week, only to be told by the same guy that I was now position 96 on the merit list. When I queried this with him, he then re-iterated by saying I was 96 out of 125. However, 28 people had been requested from the business centre and I would now move to position 68.
I asked if my pre-recruitment checks had been done and he said no. They would only carry out pre-recruitment checks on the 28 people that had been requested due to the costs involved. I asked if the checks for the 28 had been completed already and he said no they were still in process.
I believe you may be one of the lucky 28 then????
It's good to know that the DWP encourage their staff to apply for promotions and that there is no criticism that you have only recently joined their employment before applying for a promotion. It sounds like I should have applied for an AO job and then gone for promotion as an EO myself lol.
It's good that you're happy in your role too, job satisfaction is something I am looking for too, I have worked in the industrial manufacturing sector for 20 years and after being made redundant this year I am looking to steer clear and try something completely new.
Rumour and speculation is fine with me, it's better than no information at all. When I spoke to a lady at Erdington JCP+, she said that they were close to full staffing levels from the recruitment drive in Summer. I personnaly chose Sutton, Erdington and Perry Barr. I just hope the 125 down now to 97 on my merit list all get the chance to get a job.
Thanks for the explanation of an FJR, it's nice to understand some DWP speak at last lol.
ATB for your new job & please let me know of any rumours or gossip in relation to this IRC.
Thanks again
