I'm 21 yrs old so no hope of Working Tax credits, I'll ask my advisor next week when I sign on for the final time (yay!) but I'm not so sure they'll be so open. I'm at Working Links atm as a "leaver" so I don't go to my JCP office and go to their office instead.

That doesn't mean you can't visit the Jobcentre. If you don't ask you won't get.

Will you have travel expenses to pay out to get to work? Do you live with your parents or will you have bills/food to pay out? Don't worry too much about clothes, there are certain things you can't wear (jeans, trainers, logo tshirts), have a look in your Jobcentre you'll see that some people look a right state :D

  • I know some people are getting on the job training with maybe a 3 day intensive course. I think people are quite lucky to get a 3 week course like mine, as they are very expensive to run and only do them in a few places. I feel fortunate. You are all braver than i going straight into the firing line! I've just spent the last week playing with toys and watching videos! Haha!

tsimehC- i don't have hardly any formal clothes either. I am struggling at the mo but cant get any money anywhere for some. I am wearing some right mad things. Leopard print cardie the other day, i certainly stood out amongst the white shirts and slacks but no one said anything.

    Hi Venus

I am sure that you could get a grant from the JC+ for clothes. I believe it is up to £300 in total. When I had my 13 week review the EO I saw told me about it and said that they encouraged people to apply for it. If you have to travel for an interview as I did to Manchester you can also apply for travel money. I went by train and although it was only about £11 return I claimed this from the JC+.

Well i kinda stopped going for my JSA a few weeks before i started my job...i was really depressed and just wanted to hide away and hated going there. I feel guilty for not telling them but i was miserable. I don't think they would offer me any money for this reason. I am lending money just to get to the training everyday... it's quite a long journey. Haven't paid my debts this month...in a bit of a mess to be honest :(

Ahh well my fault i suppose, for being a wimp. :o

Congratulations to everyone who's had The Call! I'm soooo jealous!!

I applied for the EO job in Cardiff, and got a waiting list letter on Aug 18th, since then...nada, nothing, zilch. Stupid DWP. I haven't even had my CRB back, should I chase it d'ya think?

I've been trying to call Newcastle, but as with other people, it just rings and rings and rings. Oh well, back to searching for jobs...

Sorry to bring possibly bad news but a mate of mine who just started with the DWP told me that they have stopped taking on in South Yorkshire for the foreseeable future. I'm on the waiting list for an EO position.

Are you on the waiting list or have your checks been done yet?

I am on the waiting list for EO but for the AO I have had my CRB done and was told I had been past on Job Centre / Bussiness Centre, that was a week or so before the freeze.

Anyone else heard about the possiblites that they could have STOPPED taking on in South Yorkshire

No, all I received was a letter from DWP to chase my references, as the cut off point for the AO South Yorkshire was the 28th September. Not heard anything since.
