Well..............today was fun again. We have just come to the end of our 3 day core skills course. Today we focused on good and bad customer service. Like, did you know that ignoring someone when they come to your desk is being rude? Apparently soI jest...it was very informative. We got made aware of things that we may or may not do which indicates 'bad customer service'. Such as mannerisms/tones of voice and body language we don't realise we use.
We also looked at passive, aggressive and assertive behaviour and how to tell the differences...some have very blurred borders.
The funniest bit was when we learned about hand gestures that we may want to use. The 'flick', the 'slash' and the 'punch' were a few suggested (that's a joyous punch in the air...not punching the customers!)
We watched a couple of information videos on good and bad customer service made for the dwp and one had Dawn French in and the other had that bloke of Rogue Traders in. The one with Dawn was funny as it was like a murder mystery (cluedo) in a hotel, and the inspector was looking for clues to her death (she drowned in a lake) and he was pointing the blame at the bad customer service she had received throughout the day (annoyed and upset her so much she jumped in the lake). So he got all the people she had dealings with that day (man in post office, shoe shop assistant, nurse etc) and told them how the contributed to her death. I wont tell you the end in case you watch it. There was a twist
Anyway, i am sad the 3 day key skills bit is over. It was fun. We have the serious stuff next week...learning the computer systems etc.
I really hope some of you do the same 3 weeks training that i did, as it is really good.
Glad your enjoying your trainingit sounds great xx

When I started I only got the one day induction, but they soon booked more, they might have booked you some all ready, just forget to tell you about it's quite common for there to be some communication break down, they will sort it out on the induction day.

Went to sign on at the job centre today and told her about my interview for a job on monday. She said that as I don't know when/if I will be getting the call, its only fair to tell the employer that I am waiting to hear about starting another job saving messing them about. She said that when she was in this situation waiting for the 'call', she didn't bother applying for other jobs because as long as your still looking you can claim benefits.....I just don't know what to think or do anymore lol - they tell me completely different things.
I wouldn't tell the employer unless they ask, best to keep your options open and I am surprised she told you she thought it was okay to look for jobs but not apply, you have to be actively seeking work to claim benefits.

Thanks so much for that! I was really quite surprised when she said that as others have told me to carry on looking for work until I have a confirmed start date. I don't know.....it would be so nice to have a consensus for at least one thing lol.0 -
Conga Rats to all those with start dates
.
19th October is looking like a lucky date! I've not had the call yet, but I'm now not expecting it for a couple weeks (sometime after the 19th, actually). On the other hand, though, I do hope the 19th is a lucky date for people posting in this thread: I've got my app in for another job and found out on Weds they shortlisted 4 people after first round of interviews. 19th comes into play because that's the earliest they're going to hold 2nd interviews, and since I haven't been notified that I'm not shortlisted, I'm going to spend the weekend thinking positive and assuming I have been and that next week I'll get asked back for a 2nd interview on the 19th.
Really, really want that job. It's perfect for me, both in terms of my interests and my future career progression. Me and that job = perfect for each other.

Welcome to jcp life, there is never any consensus, it's very strange because you have to be actively seeking work to claim benefit and surely you have to apply for jobs to be actively seeking work, she obviously thinks just looking is enough.0
