DWP employment waiting list
Comments

Sammy...that's exactly what i thought. I bet there would be a few people who would be willing to fill in. Especially someone unemployed. I wonder what happened in the space of a week or so for them to not want to start their job? Strange! Wow! You have been in the biz for over 19 years...that's dedication!
F.dennis- I am in the NorthWest and apparently that is not affected by the freeze. A few people in the 'freeze' areas have been called, like maisette though. Hopefully if you sit tight you will find out soon enough. Waiting is hell i know! I don't think they even know. I think they arrange the training first then must fill the places after, hence why a lot of people found out last minute. One women i am training with only found out four days ago!"You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -

Lol Sammy, indeed u must be (u said it hehe). Thats great tho hun, to start as a casual and still be in the company 19 years later....you must be doing something right! Oh once im in they wont get rid of me lol, i'll cling to my desk in protest if they even try lol0 -
sammyjammy wrote: »Didn't mean to imply that I thought that was ok, completely agree with you, seriously though it happens a lot. Totally agree about the space being filled by someone else, if it was me I would be calling around to see who could start at short notice to fill that spot - now that would be a call and a half for someone!!
Oh god yeah i totally agree. With so many people glued to there phone waiting for "the call", that would makes someones day! im kind of praying i get at least a weeks notice or so, so i can finalise childcare for my son etc, but u know, after all this wait....id start tomorrow if i had to lol. theres always a way round things eh! I think its a poor show tho to accept a start date, agree to take the job, then not turn up. OMG who are these people lol0 -

They probably haven't read this forum and not know that many people are desperately waiting for the job they didn't turn up to!0 -
Hey, been away from the PC since Friday; several flame wars came & went & some ppl started their jobs lol.
Ok, so I got my Disclosure Scotland CRB in the post day with a 'compliments from DWP' slip enclosed. It was dated 24/09/09, which I suppose fits with the timeframe of my 08/09/09 'success' letter (w/ post, weekends & 2 weeks processing, posted back, sat in a pile in an office in Newcastle for a few days then posted out again!). It's for IRC 62477 EO in Edinburgh.
I noticed that the name of the DWP contact at the top left of my disclosure scotland form (under my name & above the IRC no. & newcastle office address) was different from the one on my 'success' letter (Martin Hodgson on the initial letter, "Christine Watson ESR DWP" on the recent form) - is this normal, or is the name on both documents supposed to be that of the person dealing with your IRC? Just can't imagine how difficult it'll be to find out whats going on if I fallen down some bureaucratic cracks in the system!
Are there additional checks to the CRB? If I ever get thru to someone on the phone I can ask these things, plus my place on this intangible 'merit list' but till then it's all informed guess work based on these forums.
PS has this really received no media coverage whatsoever? I've not noticed anything & I think any number of media outlets would eat up a 'govt department tasked with getting Britain back to work can't handle it's own recruitment' story. If it's not broken already this must be a massive scandal just waiting to happen, not so much the miscalculating how many people they need (tho that's a part of it) but more the complete lack of communication. I wouldn't be nearly so p1ssed off if I'd've gotten a letter saying "we are sorry to inform you that due to the volatile economic climate our internal staffing policy has been placed under urgent review and all current recruitment has been frozen. You will be contacted again towards the end of October to be informed of the progress of your application"0 -
@venus: That person may have a perfectly acceptable reason though like a car accident, family emergency etc but I guess s/he didn't call in to let them know? Anyways, I wanted to ask. What do you know about the RM system? I was told I'll need to sign on that on my first day? I know I can ask when I'm there but I'd appreciate some fresh blood advice. :P0

tsimehc- No, they rang him up that morning to see where he was and he was like, 'naaaaah, not coming anymore'! No need to try and make me feel guilty! Jeeez! He just couldn't be a rsed!
RM system...like the computer systems? We haven't been signed up for anything yet. But when we do i shall let you know."You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -

Scary - I started as a casual AA doing a 5 week contract. I was so good at filing and photocopying I was asked to stay. I stayed rather than going back to finish my A levels (my stepmother's decision not mine) and was an EO within 3 years which really, really wound up some of the AOs who had been at it for 10 years.
I only ever left because I was offered a pay increase of £11k to become a fraud investigator for a firm of accountants.
I wish I had stayed.
To all those that slag off the Civil Service, believe me when I say that there are loads of worse employers (and I've had most of them) and the pension alone is worth staying for.0 -
