My wife and I both applied to Halifax and got our letters. We have both had our CRB checks back and our referees have been contacted (a couple of weeks ago). However, we have heard nothing since.

I should add that I play cricket with someone that works in the Halifax office and he has told me (about 10 days ago) that they have not had any new starters yet.

Thank you, I suppose if no new starters hopefully good news as they have not commenced posting and then realised they have too many?

Just received a letter from Newcastle:-

"owing to unprecedented levels of recruitment they are reviewing staffing position and will be in touch once they have a firmer idea of future opportunities. We do not expect this to be before late October"

Never mind. Starting new job on Monday, so they will be pleased I won't be leaving within a few weeks of me starting:rotfl:

Good luck to everyone who will be starting their training soon. Who knows, one day I might be one of those :rotfl::rotfl:

    Morning all
Just got back from signing on, asked about 'THE FREEZE' and got a blank stare! so i pursued my line of enquiry and asked when i would possibly hear of a start date, i got a mumbled reply of 'there are some difficulties within this branch so you will have to just wait for the call as these things take time'
    How very informative!!!! LOL.
Well done Jimisugly, 19th of Oct seems to be the majic date..things seem to be looking up at certain areas at least.

    Hi Jessbob,

I wouldnt be too disheartened by the letter. I received the same letter on Tues and got the "call" Wed (yesterday)!! :j Mine is for the the North West area.

Im obviously thrilled however I applied for part time but have been told that there is only full time available in my region. I have accepted of course but dont know what Im going to to do with child care yet. Does anybody out there know if you can arrange times out once you have started to accomodate childcare etc? Any info or advice appreciated! Many Thanks

I'm also looking for part-time hours. I've asked about it a few times but keep being told that they will discuss at the time. I even triple checked before the interview but was just told if it says it on the advert, part-time must be okay. Didn't get any more joy in the interview either.

Working hours are such a big thing (especially for an employer like them who promote working flexibly etc) you would think they would give more of an indication earlier in process.

    Hi Search!

Did you have any more joy finding out about part time hours since this post? Ive now been told there is only full time in my area even though it was also advertised as part time. Thanks!

They offer job share and family friendly hours but only to the agreed hours pre contract! It'd be no use starting with them then saying 'I can only do part time' cos they will just get rid (within trial period).... at the end of the day jobs are advertised and they fill them per se.

Good Luck and hope things turn out brightly for you..... Although cannot see the fascination (253 pages) about working for a Gvt Dept with such unclear uncertainty! I left with a golden handshake and guaranteed job offer for life - wonder if I went for a PA role in Leeds if i'd get it? Just to test the system.... But then the new Enforcemant agency is also in Leeds isn't it? Plus you have Environmental Health etc....

Thats the kind of 'false' promises they hit you with!

Hi do you have flexi-time options? To enable you to bank a couple of hours for emergencies?

Hi, Thanks for the info. One of the reasons I applied for the position was because of the "advertised" part time hours/flexiblity and with having a small baby would have been ideal. Thanks for your insight, much appreciated.
