DWP employment waiting list

I'm sure this might not go down too well, but it's meant with the best of intentions....

I think what's really happened here is that things have changed in the middle of a huge recruitment exercise. DWP were intending to recruit almost (more than?) 10,000 staff. That is a huge number of people for anyone to recruit, no matter how well organised they might or might not be. The numbers involved have also led, inevitably, to large numbers of disappointed people.

Over the period of this recruitment, things have changed in the economy. For any other prospective employer it might have been the loss of a contract, bankruptcy, a merger, a stock market fall, a takeover bid or any number of things and they would have changed their recruitment too.

It's a real shame that people have had their hopes raised, but the DWP are funded by taxpayers, and all the parties are talking about cuts, so it would be rather odd for them to over-recruit and then end up spending money that was not available.

My view is that those people waiting on a posting date should consider looking for any other work - a job offer without a start date doesn't actually form any valid contract - they could just say "you can start on 01/04/2025".

Good luck to anyone "waiting" for a DWP job in either getting a DWP job if it materialises, or getting another job elsewhere. I'm not sure there's any point in raking over the coals of what's gone on though; it might be better to move on and concentrate on action that might now lead to better chances of employment.

i cant speak for every1 else but speaking from my heart i understand that the labour market and credit crunch etc has affected the amount of staff being took on and have to relook at things, however i feel let down that if it were not for this forum and its lovely members i may not of found it about this 'freeze' there has been no press, no explanation letters, nothing, and i think that has added to the confusion and the feeling of being let down, this is a place for ppl to let off steam, and nobody should have a go at us for using it as a way of releasing any feelings we have over the subject, after all, if some1 had n ot of come on here to moan about the freeze we wud still be waiting for the call

I totally agree on the first paragraph. Nobody should be sitting around waiting for the DWP to sort this out because everything we're hearing now indicates that there isn't going to be any jobs when the dust settles.

As for the second part, you're right in that we shouldn't be chasing this at the expense of other job prospects, but I think we still have the right to demand answers over this. Like you say, it's a government department and it's taxpayers' money. WE PAID FOR THIS SHAMBLES :D

i agree. i for one would still be waiting for the call if it was not for this thread. a simple letter in the post to everyone would of saved all this confusion. not much to ask for really.
there is a article in the sunday mail today saying lots of small business people are no longer using the job centre to advertise their jobs anymore.wonder why!!!!!!

    hello twss,

i don't mean to be rude but i find your posts rather patronizing.
people are absolutely entitled to feel slightly let down by the dwp experience they have had to date.
the candidate experience has been extremely poor and i don't think anyone at the dwp could argue with that.
the sheer lack of communication is a lack of respect to the applicants they thought were intelligent enough to work for them and also a lack of common courtesy.
that alone is enough to get anyones back up, wouldn't you agree?
i can understand the current economic downturn and that it is fast changing, however, it is frustrating to see that the dwp website is still recruiting?? why?? they seem to have a massive headcount of successful applicants waiting in the pipeline, why not post these people first?
as other posts have already said, if it was not for this forum i would not have had a clue about any apparent recruitment freeze!
and even when the end of october comes, no one really knows where things are going to stand, even the dwp doesn't seem to know, so, who filled your head with dwp info power that leaves you feeling comfortable to tell people to "stop waiting and move on".
why on earth, in this current economic downturn would anyone want to give up any hope of getting this job.
any hope is better than no hope and until someone from the dwp tells me personally that there is definitely no job then i will remain to have atleast some hope.
if finding another job was as easy as you think it may be, then i'm sure we would have done so by now.
plus, i actually WANTED this job, i would have been very happy as a civil servant working in my local jcp.
  • well what a surpise to rcv an email just now @ 4.20pm from Louise, and no surprise but she has only replied with the information that she had already told me over the phone, anyway have a read

    Dear

Apologies for the delay in replying.

I can appreciate how disappointed you will be with your selection experience though I am unable to comment on your reference to documents going missing as you have not provided any specifics. In addition I am unsure why you state that you have been given a start date that has never materialised as our records show that no offer of a start date has been made to you.

With regards to your positioning on the waiting list this will change as postings are made and candidates take up duty.

The letter you received advising you that you had been successful in our selection assessments was not an offer of employment and I am sorry that you took the decision to resign from your current employment on the strength of that letter. I do appreciate the difficult situation you now find yourself in, but at no point have we given you the guarantee of a post. It was anticipated that following the successful completion of pre-appointment checks Jobcentre Plus would be able to offer postings to candidates. However, as advised in our telephone conversation they are currently undertaking a piece of work to review their staffing situation. I reiterate that they expect this review to be complete no later than the end of October. Hopefully Resourcing will be in a position to give you more information at that point and I am happy for you to contact me and I will do everything I can to provide you with an update to your status in this exercise.

I do understand your own and other candidates frustrations, but regret I am unable to add anything further until Jobcentre Plus have had the opportunity to review their staffing and selection requirements.

If I can help further please do not hesitate to contact me at the number below.

    Kind regards

    Louise Perry

Back to the drawing board then for every1, as from now i officially GIVE UP
