I've answered your other thread too but from my experience they want a specific example.

The STAR method is the way to go.

Sorry...didn't mean to post it everywhere, just thought this post may get looked at more.

I shall work with that and see how it turns out. Thank you :)

Wonder if you can offer some advice? I have my tests/interview tomorrow and am struggling a bit with thinking of examples for each of the competencies.

I have; Improving performance, Leading through change, Building constructive working relationships and engaging effectively with customers (internal and external).

I know it says they are looking for a specific example, but is it literally "I did this with such and such, that happened, the end" for example, or could I base it on a general situation?

Basically, I was a trainer in my previous job, so some examples are based on my experience with a group of people over time, rather than an actual event.

Thanks for any help and well done to everyone who has passed/been offered a job :)

I found this website very useful because it gives questions normally asked in competency based interviews & also examples. for eg. for building constructive working relationships they can ask how did you deal with a difficult colleague. Read through the examples & try and remember some of them to use during your interview. Please base your answers on what you did during that situation....not a general 'we did....' Follow the STAR method to answer...best of luck!!!!! http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/compet/skillquest.htm

I had 3 interviews as EO but I already received a letter from the first... that I failed. I am so upset...I think there is something wrong with my interview answers.
I have another one tomorrow and I would like to ask if you can help me with this please?
Any specific suggestion? Is anyone able to help with specific examples?
I was wondering if it is the case to use some of the competencies examples on the application form (the 15 questions about improving performance, leading through change, and delivery of excellent customer service)...
PLEASE, I would really be greatful if somebody can HELP.

So they can just pick a question like that? I was under the impression they would just ask you for an example for each one, not throw one at you? AAAAAHHHH! So anything I prepare could be a waste of time if they don't ask that specific question?

    Oh dear...

No, they do want your own examples. This just gives you an idea of what sort of stuff to say

    Phew...good!

Well 3 down, that one still to go. My dad's just checked them over and says they're ok, so i'll blame him if they're not :P

Still have to get through the tests before any of this anyway, so it could all be for nothing :(

  • Can I ask a question? In your experience were your references actually contacted? I have been accepted for a EO a fortnight back but as far as I the people doing my references have heard nothing
    The World come on.....
  • My references have not been contacted- and I have been told I've def got the job, just waiting for line manager to ring with start date!
