DWP employment waiting list

Jazzturkey wrote: »I applied for a dwp job back in December 08, was interviewed and tested pretty quickly, received a waiting list letter, CRB, references, etc. I got a phone call last week offering me a position to start 5 May. So 5/6 months to go through the process, the job is a fixed term contract for 2 years. I have a job so I was a bit reluctant to accept because of the fixed term contract position but I am going to give it a go and hope it works out!!!
I have a letter with a start date of 27th April wherein its says its a fixed term but doesn't the period. Did they tell you when they called you or did you get a letter which mentions a fixed term contract for 2 years?
Thanks0 -
Hi, length of Fixed Term Appts can differ but it should have stated the length in the job vacancy you applied for. I am currently in a Fixed Term AO position which is for 12 months, with a view to permanancy. However, some of the more recent jobs advertised are for 18 months. When you get your official letter offering the job, it should state when the job starts and ends.
Can you tell me a little about the job? What is the training like & what happens after we have finished the training? I have also been told that I can give the hours that I prefer to work.....do you do flexible hours or is it fixed?

Can anybody shed some light on my situation, please?
I applied for an Admin Officer position at the Job Centre (DWP) and successfully made it through the tests and interviews (after many moons of waiting).
When I received confirmation that I had passed the interview I also received the forms for the CRB check; which I promptly filled in and sent off.
Just over two weeks ago I received my CRB certificate and sent it straight to Newcastle shared employee services. They then sent it back to me with no explanation of what happens next. I tried to call the Newcastle office several times, but there is no answer (arrrrgggghhhh-the sound of hair being pulled).
I was just wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience, or has any answers.
Here are the specifics of my tale of woe:
Test date: 15/02/2009
Interview date: 18/02/2009
Location: London area
Also, please note that I have heard no mention of waiting list, so...does that mean I am or aren't on one?
Thank you in advance
hi - my experiance was test 31 jan
interview 16 feb
successful letter 4 march
crb sent back (dwp had seen it) 26 march
start date given 20 april for 11 may
I was getting very down about the whole thing but hang in there, the lady that rang mentioned that they had been waiting for the ok from hr dept for go ahead and said that newcastle and dwp in general are swamped with recruitment so things are taking much longer to process than usual.
- hope that helps0 -
Hello everyone!
Like lauramichelle - previous poster, I too recd my you have been sucessful letter on the 13/03 but haven't recd confirmation of scores etc which makes me think I won't be going on to a waiting list - particularly as there was a recent large recruitment drive and my adviser at my JC has advise me " we're crying out for people! " I have returned my CRB form back to newcastle as requested. I called the Newcastle office about four weeks ago and was told that they are currently looking at a 20 working day turn around. But i wasn't told at the time about any waiting lists. However, on my last fornightly visit to the JC I discussed this with my adviser who mentioned they were trying to fast track people in due to an increase in work etc and to stay positive! I finally managed to get thorugh to again to a Newcastle again yesterday and again was assured things are on the move! Not sure if this helps at all but I've asked therm to make note that I am available immediately and will shortly be losing my right JSA due to low NI contributions!0 -
I spoke to them again yesterday- just said the job centre that were taking me would get in touch and that I was not on a waiting list. four or five people that got interviewed on the same day as me have all received their start dates around a week ago, so I'm starting to give up hope- although I suppose it might take a while for them to call everybody I suppose. Not a nice feeling though to be waiting around.0

Today I received a letter stating I had to fill out a CRB form, however I only just recently got one down (beginning of April) and sent it to DWP for another position, therefore when I get that one returned back to me, shall I just send that form or would I need to fill out for another one. Thanks0

I have received verbal confirmation of a permanent EO post now. Apparently the confirmation letter will be with me this week.
Yay!!
I've got 2 AO interviews coming up. I don't know whether to still go to them. On one hand, having had an erroneous success letter previously, I'm not altogether confident in the security of this offer. If it suddenly gets withdrawn again, I'll have nothing to fall back on. On the other, the HR officer at Newcastle has been dealing with my applications all along so is aware of the initial !!!!-ups and I doubt they would have said there's a post if there was any doubt whatsoever. And I don't want to waste interviewers' time.
What do people think? Should I go for the AO interviews or not?
Edit to add, ah, I see the profanity filter doesn't like references to male chickens, lol.:idea:0 -

CONGRATS!! Did they tell you when your start date will be? Did you call them or did they call you? I'm on a waiting list for an EO position, I wrote to them asking what position I am, waiting to hear from them.
I think if you get your letter before your interview, don't bother going. But if by your interview date you still haven't received written confirmation, I wouldn't go.0 -

I called them, on another matter. I haven't got anything but a verbal confirmation yet, although they said I'd have a letter by Saturday, so I don't know where exactly the job is or when I will start. My post doesn't arrive until 1pm and my first interview is on Saturday morning...
I will go to the interviews. Bet-hedging seems to be the best policy. On the other hand, if I definitely have the EO post, it seems stupid to clog up the system.
Difficult to know what to do...:idea:0
