DWP employment waiting list

  • Just called Employee Services Resourcing regarding IRC61569.

Well, actually it wasn't that simple. I called about three different numbers before ringing the complaints number provided a couple of posts ago. Couldn't get through to Louise Perry, but did speak to someone in her department.

    Found out the following: -

    1. There is a 'freeze' on allocating start dates. Same as discussed previously, they have recruited a lot of people recently and they are inundated - they are reviewing their available vacancies.

    2. I am roughly 40th on a merit list of 150 people. As I can only work in one area (I live in rural Suffolk and do not drive), it is likely that they will not be able to offer me a start date as they take people from higher up the merit list first, and it isn't clear whether there are enough vacancies.

    3. Even if there is a vacancy for me, due to the freeze it is unlikely that I will get a start date for at least 6 weeks. At best.

    :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I cannot understand this recruitment process at all. I applied for a specific vacancy, and as far as I am concerned, once someone has been successful at interview, they fill the vacancy. You shouldn't over-recruit. In the private sector, you don't advertise for one job, and then tell five people they've been successful at interview. There should be no 'merit' list, it's ridiculous! You either succeed or you fail - you shouldn't be graded afterwards unless you are going for a second interview!

Although the person I spoke to was very sympathetic, they are resigned to the fact that the recruitment process is as it is, and they just let you sound off without actually helping. I've taken the other job I was offered, and was hoping that I would get a start date soon so I could make an informed decision as to whether I would stay at this other job or leave to go to the dwp. Right now, I'm debating whether the extra money would be worth it, given that I would be working for what seems to be the worst organised company I have ever come across.

As my other half said, 'If their recruitment process is so thorough and lengthy, why do they still employ idiots to manage it?'
  • They outsource it to a 3rd party bunch of idiots to manage it which makes it worse.....
  • I am also for 61569 and am so upset and annoyed. I haven't been able to get through to find my position on the merit list and now I don't think that there is much point. It doesn't look like anyone will be getting 'the call' in the near future:confused:

That's the whole problem - it isn't a company. It's a government department doing as it's told by Ministers that WE voted into power.
  • I think its fair to say we won't be voting them in again this time round.
  • Thats the trouble with government funded schemes...you can guarantee if it was their own money they were [STRIKE]wasting[/STRIKE] spending on this recruitment they wouldn't be half as slow and a hell of a lot more careful in regards to recruiting people efficiently...i dread to think how much money they are wasting paying for CRB etc, for people that may not get the jobs they have been told they should get!!!
"You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"
  • I think we should all bombard the email of Alistair Darling. He is of course ultimately responsible for all government financing/spending etc.

Well, it's the civil service. They tend to do what they like regardless of whoever is in power.
  • I was told clearly to read my letter again and it states "Thank you for attending the interview for exercise IRC 58772. I am pleased to inform you that you have been successful. We are now undertaking pre-recruitment checks and you will be contacted again once these are complete to confirm wether or NOT we are able to offer you a post".

I was told that yes, it may be frustrating for us, but NONE of us have been fully guaranteed a job until we get "the call" and although we have passed the interviews etc, it is all subject to business requirements. In other words, theres !!!!!! all we can do about it if it all falls flat on its face
  • When I first read the letter I thought that I had a job but if there was a problem with my pre-recrutiment checks then i didn't. Guess I interpreted that wrong lol.
