DWP employment waiting list

Contrary to what I first thought EVERYONE goes on the waiting list. Whether you're #1 in line for a position of 46 on #100 you all feature on this waiting list which is dependant on CRB and reference checking. The faster you return these forms the quicker the process and the quicker the DWP can get you trained and into work helping others back to work.
In fairness to the DWP they are quite a big organisation and the uptake to these jobs has been quite staggering and as a government organisation they are obliged to follow certain procedures and protocols hence the massive amounts of people put through for testing and then interviewing requiring lots of man hours. The advertisements for these positions were quite clear about the waiting lists of up to 12 months and this shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. I know it's extra difficult when you're looking for work and you think you've been offered something concrete but my advice is to continue your search and don't hold out on the DWP.
Some of the confusion has probably arisen from misinformation supplied in the letters from the DWP as they have such a large amount of people to contact and letters to type/print there will be those odd ones that slip through with incorrect information. My test score letter for example didn't really mention anything other than I achieved a score allowing me to apply for positions up to executive officer level but no results of the test. I rang the DWP number (month since I sent my CRB and Reference forms) for the lady who has been dealing with my (and I assume 100's of others) application and she was able to tell me that the checks were being done and that my actual test results were 100% which was ego boosting.
In short, you're all on a waiting list and give it a month after posting your CRB and reference confirmation request forms before bugging the over-worked people in the offices to work out exactly where you stand. Chances are you are in the lucky few who interviewed well and are not criminals and you'll be given a post, luckier still you may have scored less than someone else who turned out to be a criminal and you get their position! Some people may have found jobs and so their position is handed down the chain etc etc. It's a slow process admittedly but alas it can't be any other way.
hi - i disagree - the advertisement i applied with had no mention of waiting lists - at interview i was informed that there were 16 available positions and then they were generating a waiting list for future vacancies, i have applied for another position with dwp in a different area and received a letter informing me that i am on a waiting list which is fine, i understand, the position for which i have received a "successful" letter and all the check info leads the applicant to believe that on completion of checks a job is at the end of it all, as others have said if at this stage you are then on a waiting list - let us know0 -

Hi, I think you're misunderstanding the DWP use of the word "waiting list". There are indeed 16 positions and if you interviewed in the top 16 of applicants you will be offered a position subject to checking. Until such checking is done, you will be on the "waiting list" it doesn't matter how !!!! hot you were at interview or how good your test scores were if your CRB comes back with a lot of naughty marks. Check the advert again and you'll see a mention of a 12 month waiting list. I would've thought an agency as controlled and regulated as the DWP (Have to stick to pre-written sheets at interview, testing etc so no favouritism or unfairness can take place!!) would fail to put out consistent information on their adverts.
Any misleading letters you've received are probably as a result of clerical and admin error at the office. There are millions unemployed at the moment and understandbly the DWP is suffering an unplanned growth spurt so perhaps a bit of slack may need to be cut them.0 -
i would like to know what is the longest any of you have been waiting to start? i am coming up to end of originally 6 month contract which has been extended couple times and end may having been in dwp 12 months. they cannot extend any longer and i am waiting for fta 2yr position. had letter in jan and decided to ring last week as no info was given on letter as to where you were on list. if i had known in jan how many were ahead i would have looked for other employment, you all know how long it takes to be able to take up a position nowadays. have never had CRB check since working for dwp either,(had one done april 2008 for security licence) but references were sought. have applied for more recent dwp posts in different areas. original application was in oct last year., letter received jan, obviously they were looking to recruit in new tax year but i am now asking if they would do CRB check before i finish as if successful at this round of recruiting will be able to transfer this to new post, so cutting down on waiting time to start. have also asked for pdp to be done as i will only get standard reference from dept but if i go through appraisal i will be able to show how bloody marvellous i am at my job. seems like i am making work for staff but i am only trying to give myself the best chance of employment and i have to look after no.1. So to cut a VERY long story short i have been going through this recruitment process since oct 2008, would like to know how long you guys have been waiting to get the job?0

Good luck with your application, to give you an idea of time scale I was put on a 12 month waiting list in October 08 and have now just started my job this week in JCP.
(5 months waiting for job offer/working 4 week notice period)
After just two days in the office it is very very busy so hopefully yourself and others wont be waiting to long.0 -
