DWP employment waiting list

I recently passed the tests for a position with the DWP and attended an interview. I received a letter yesterday saying that I have been unsucessful and am absolutely gutted!!
I was under the impression that even if you were not offered a position, you were put on a waiting list. Is this not the case? I thought the interview went really well but they obviously had other ideas
I'm a bit confused why I haven't been put on a waiting list, the letter offered no explanation other than 'you have been unsucessful' and they wish me every success in the future!

This is what I think happens based on my own experiences...you have 5 categories of 9 points to make up the overall 45. They are the 4 competences and overall communication. If you do not hit the target score in one or more of the categories (I have no idea what that is, but let's say it's 5) then you don't pass the interview.
What you should do now is write to them to get feedback and keep on applying for other posts that come up, using the feedback to strengthen the category where you were weak.
Don't be disheartened. You can try again.:idea:0 -
the letter is standard, did you read it? "Pending pre-recruitment checks" KEY PHRASE! we do not know if you are insane or have spent your whole life in prison yet so of COURSE we are not going to say "you have a job!" otherwise if we couldn’t employ you because of your history you'd then probably have grounds to complain that we offered you a job then took it away because you stole an orange when you were 12! Make sense now?
Plus everyone who passes the interview is successful! if there are 10 jobs and 15 applicants who have passed you'd think numbers 1-10 would get the jobs and 11-15 would be on waiting list.... EXCEPT when numbers 1-5 have committed fraud and we cannot employ them... THEREFORE numbers 11-15 are now in the frame to get jobs! If we did it that way you'd be waiting 4-5 weeks for the "you have been successful at interview" letter! Would that make you feel better?
I think it might actually make me feel better if I was ent a letter saying that I was successful and have a job. I wouldn't mind waiting, at least it would be over in one go!
The letter does indeed say 'pending pre recruitment checks' and you will be contacted again once these are completed to confirm whether or not the DWP are able to offer you a job.
I get that, I understand it. As it is written, it suggests the outcome of the pre recruitment checks determines whether a job offer can be made or not. Of course, it doesn't mention that you will be put on a waiting list or indicate how many jobs are available. I could be number 273 on a waiting list for 6 jobs. Then I'd give up!
I do hope I am successfulBored0 -
Hi Sigrid,
Your derogatory response has spurred me at least to believe the DWP is full of arrogant jobsworths and I'm glad I've been offered a job in the NHS now. You have a unique ability to present yourself in the most aggressive way possible at the same time as "putting down" anyone asking questions. Here is a question for you;
Why assume everyone is talking to you?
"is not in debt and never will be as I am in possession of a brain! "
So you never went to University then....0 -
I had a DWP interview last year. I didn't get the job. I am terrible in interviews. Never mind though. Good Luck to anyone taking the tests/having interviews.

Sounds to me like they just want reserves handy for when people quit because working for them can't be any fun.0

actually I did go to university! I am not in debt because I worked my !!!! off to pay for my education!
If you had to put up with the !!!! we do then you'd also be "aggressive" the fact that people get !!!!y with us personally is totally stupid! if you don't think for one second we'd like to change the letters you are deluded! if you don't think we'd like to change the way it's ran you are deluded!
another reason why may be coming across as a bit arogant to you is that the letters - as annoying as they are - make sense. I also do not like the fact someone is posting direct line numbers as if it were mine I'd kick off! also when I come on this board I'm getting like 10-20 questions a day... simple ones... like "should i phone them up?" I dunno - should you breathe!?
why do i assume they are talking to me? because they are the same people sending me messages everyday to ask "how many positions are in X" "can you tell me where I am on the waiting list?"

Sigrid, you actually asked me what the ref was for the job I applied for. I never went to you seeking your insight and inside knowledge, but after you messaged me, I have be grateful for your advice.
You have been very helpful and understanding and have given me some valuable information. However, you freely offerd this without me prompting you!
I feel you might be getting a bad rep on here, but you're a good egg, clearly!

I've no idea whether I passed the interview, that is what I am asking!! I'm guessing that I didn't but as the letter gives no info whatsoever other than saying that I haven't been sucessful then I don't actually know.

I've never been told I'll be on a waiting list, just that I have ben 'successful'. They should be straight with you, unless there are those who are successful and those who get a waiting list letter, but I doubt it!
another inconsistency!!! i have my start date for 14th april but i havent been sent a copy of my crb, although i specified it should be sent to dwp, i though a copy was also sent out to me!0
