have received a successful letter from dwp for eo position and crb forms on 3rd march.
crb took 2 weeks and newcastle received back last tuesday 24th and have all references back. received a call from the jobcentre i have applied for on thurs asking if i had to give 4wks notice to employer i said i could knock to 3wks if poss and she said she would get back in touch but still nothing!
i can't give my notice in at work until i have a start date, really looking forward to starting but very frustrating process pouncing on the postie every morning looking for brown envelope.
  • has anyone heard of this before? i am currently on dwp casual contract jobcentreplus, which was originally 6 months. in that time i applied for 2 yr fixed term contract, was successful and put on waiting list. had this letter jan, my casual contract has been extended twice and end of may will have worked for year. staff and management have been happy with my work and i know i have proven my ability to do the job. my results meant i can apply up to eo level and jobs were for ao. my casual contract cannot be extended any further and while people are joining on this recruitmnent exercise i am still waiting. the waiting list offer is only valid for 6 months so i could poss be out of work with 2 months of waiting list left. other colleagues are in same boat, seems new starters were on jsa previous and we have also heard our office to get a load of casuals starting too. dont know which list they came from but we have no idea where we are on any list. no one is able to tell us anything. in the meantime i am now applying for new posts, obviously to go on further waiting lists. is this unusual???
  • PS, in answer to crockpot : carry on signing, you have 14 days between now and start so you will be due to sign in that time. sign on and sign off. if you miss any before you start you will lose benefit. you may also be entitled to run on of housing and council tax benefit, funding for work clothes and more depending on your circumstances. ring your jobcentre before you start work as you will not be able to claim anything after and you may need to book an appt to get what you are entitled to. if you are due to start between signing make sure you fill in and return your signing card to jobcentre so they can close claim and put date you start and date you wish to be paid up to- day before you start- and tick the more than 5 weeks box. your last payment may be delayed as they will have to calculate number of days instead of your usual 2 weeks payment. call your benefit delivery office few days after you send in to check it has been closed by jobcentre and payment is on way to you. and GOOD LUCK
  • I got a phonecall on Friday giving me a start date. They send they'd send out written confirmation that day, but I still don't have it. :( Should I be concerned?

My referees haven't been contacted, and I found an old answer machine message on 1571 that said my employer hadn't returned their references either. I assume this was resolved if I got a start date?

The only think that is preventing me from going postal at my current job is knowing that I'm actually going to get out.
  • hi there I have been invited to attend the verbal and num testing this weekend and if successful, will attend interview the same day. Should I wear a suit? What did you all wear to your interviews with the DWP?

Well, alot of people were wearing suits when I went and I turned up in Jeans and trainers as I phoned Newcastle first. Does not really matter as long as you are comfortable.

I just added a 2nd post as I didn't fully read what you had written first time as I'm an idiot. Def wear a suit if they are interviewing on the same day.

Actually, Just re-read what you had written. I'd wear a suit if they are interviewing the same day, mine was a week later.
  • suit it is then! Thanks for that
  • Can I ask when the closing date for your application was? Did you receive a letter or phone call inviting you to the tests? My application closing date was 23 March. Haven't heard anything. Grateful for this forum as I now realise it is a waiting game! Thanks.
  • Hi, Does anyone know how long it take them to contact you after they have received the disclosure certificate back from disclosure scotland, because i am going out of my mind waiting for phone calls or a letter! I know they've received it back because i sent them the original copy last week.

    Thanks loretta
