I wouldn't mind the waiting if I knew for sure there was a job at the end of it! I've had some comforting reassurances from people on here but the natural pessimist in me won't relax until I have something more concrete.:idea:0

It is a long wait without any info for months on end then out of the blue you get a call with a start date!0 -

i wasnt even on a waiting list but like you i was also pessimistic! dunno why but it just all didnt feel like it was in the bag!
have been out of work for 6 months so it will kill me going back! also it is FARRRRRR from where i live so god knows what time i will have to get up in the morning to get there for 9am! and the travelcard is £170 per month!!! ouch!
am now wondering what the induction will be like? off to search for a thread on all that now!
i really wouldnt like to have been in the waiting lists as i was going mad enough as it was and i did stilll think they may do my checks THEN place me on a list so am really pleased that didnt happen0 -
I've been a bit of a lurker here but this thread has been so helpful. I applied for an AO post at the end of Jan, then had the tests and interview in the beginning of feb, before being told I was successful and that checks would be done at the end of Feb, I phoned them up last week and they were pretty much useless saying that I would be sent a letter soon and I should just wait, but all this waiting is kinda putting my life on hold. For example I have to to HK at somepoint but fear that if I do and get a call from dwp I wouldn't be available, but rant over I should just be more optimistic plus I have another DWP interview next saturday!
p.s. suewiththeblues congratualtions!!!! :T0 -

Oh,sue,I know exactly what you mean! Of all the jobs I've ever applied for none have had this endless stress just to get offered a place. There's no consistency which makes it worse. Maybe the DWPshould put into practice the competencies they like us to show at interview!
I really hope you enjoy your new job. When your first pay arrives in your bank account, all the hassle will be forgotten. Good luck!!!0 -
Why don't they give you some indication of start dates when you get the successful letter? How are you supposed to plan on telling your employer that you are leaving? How can you plan anything else for that matter?
I've been successful. No letter about a waiting list, just that background checks are being doen before they can offer me a post. When I rang up, they won't tell me anything, just that 'everyone is put on a waiting list'. I wasn't told that in my letter. How misleading! They won't tell me where I am on the list either!
So i've been successful. Will I be offered a position? Am I on a list or not? When will I start (if at all?) How do I negotiate my early redundancy with my employers if I donb't know thee bloomin facts?!
Thanks DWP, I can't wait to work for you, it's going to be great. Just let me know, ok?!!Bored0 -
I've just received a letter this morning saying I was also successful in the AO interview (aswell as the EO the other week) and that I am on a waiting list (again). The thing is the phone number on this letter was different so I thought I'd be cheeky and try and phone up again. They still can't say where I am on either list, as apparently they need to figure out which office everyone has chosen for their specific area.
The kind lady said once they had allocated all these I should be hearing back.0 -
Are most people here applying for permanent or fixed-term jobs?
Just out of interest....0 -
Well done
My mate works for DWP and he absolutely loves it! Earns a tidy sum too
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
Just spoken to the lovely people in Newcastle.
"Sorry I can't help you, everyone will be placed on a waiting list" "If there's ten jobs and 100 pass, we'll take the first ten!".
I asked why I wasn't informed I would be on a waiting list, just that I was successful;
"It's the standard letter I'm afraid"
Yet some people have received the 'waiting list' letter?
I explained my redundancy situation and that I need to get released in order to get my money, but still no indication of when the job will start and where I am on the 'waiting list'.
It's so frustrating. Why don't they make this clear when they recruit. It's very poor customer service.
So, being told "you have been successful" should have said, "you have now been placed on a waiting list. Sit tight and w'll inform you if there are actually any jobs"
Can anybody help?!Bored0
