Newgirl am I correct in thinking your vacancies are in the Birmingham area?

If so is that 190 waiting list for the EO position or AO. It is worrying that there could be a big waiting list and add to that that there is another 300+ list mentioned earlier for AO positions in Bham area. With so many positions it is less likely that the latter ones have a chance of becoming permanent. Also worrying that they may turn out to be less than 18 months.

Hi all, just to share my thoughts with you, I was ecstatic when I read on DWP's website what they can offer staff: flexible hours and part time working pattern to achieve strong work-life balance, I have young children so it would be difficult to work full time for at least a year, but I wanted to return to work and I felt DWP would make this a reality. So when they advertised for 5 districts in one go, and JCP staff informed me , apparently there are 500 positions, I thought Yes, this could be it. I am now informed that there are no part time positions in North North East london and city and east london and would I accept a full time position or withdraw!. I am still trying to see if I can secure childcare for Saturdays with the view to taking a full time post. I would welcome any views on this
  • I am starting an EO position on the 10th Aug at Bromley Job Centre.

I was wondering if anyone has recently taken up an EO position, what were your first few days like?
I'm not really sure what to expect, i think that I will be in a customer facing role, but to be honest when they rung up to offer me a start date I didn't really ask. I think that I surprised to actually recieve the call !!!
Any info would be greatly appreciated, I am getting a bit nervous.:o

The DWP told me they sent off my disclosure over a week ago, but disclosure scotland have not seen it arrive yet? Is this normal? :S

    Slitty,
I would call Newcastle and tell them that Disclosure Scotland still haven't receved your CRB form and they should re-send it to them. This happened to me, Newcastle told me they had sent my form, yet everytime I phoned DS they had not received it. I told this to Newcastle and they said they would re-send my form, in the end it was sent 3 times  before DS finally received it.

    Toffee Bunny,

I'm also wondering what to expect as I start on August 3rd in a Benefit Delivery Centre in the Disability side of things as an EO so would be good to share some feedback on first few days and initial impressions etc
  • HI qwerty 42
Have you discussed with them what your role will be and the kind of things you will be doing?
I assume that i will be in a customer facing role, i cannot believe that i am starting this new job and I am not really sure what I will be doing.

You must let me know how your first few days are, first impressions etc...

Where about in the country is your office ?

I cannot believe what has happened and how appalling the recruitment procedures really are. I am so angry today that I feel sick!!!

My time line was applying in Feb for a permanent position in the Birmingham and Solihull area. My interview on the 25th of March, successful letter 11th of April, Checks letter 29th of May and my crb sent to Newcastle on the 22nd/23rd June. I was told that there were 141 people on the list and all would get a job, I was 26th.

Newcastle confirmed they had received my crb and so I waited. I waited three weeks and called a few times to be told that my checks were coming along nicely and it would not be long before they were cleared etc etc. On the last attempt on the 10th of July, i was told that actually they did not have my crb. I sent it again and was assured that my checks were cleared and passed to the business and i would hear very soon. Another three week wait with again being told that my checks were definitely cleared when i phoned Newcastle.

I decided yesterday to phone the district office instead of Newcastle as I was sick of waiting. Guess what..... no one as ever heard of me and they have not had my cleared checks!!! Unbelievable.

To be fair the man i spoke to was very efficient and called me back this morning to say everything was sorted and he could offer me a job. Wowee:j I was very happy, until he mentioned the 18 month fixed term contract and a jobcentre that was not even in my district!!!!

I nearly cried, after all this time I am now being told I don’t have a permanent job. The jobcentre i can live with as it’s about an hrs drive. The excuse was that there were only 141 perm positions which have now been filled... yeah probably because Newcastle messed me about so much that I missed the boat!! However I was also told that there were 190 something on this list and I was 130 something? Maths may not be my best quality but even I know 130 something is therefore in the 141 range! I am currently in the process of kicking up a stink. I should be ecstatic today that I got 'the call' and instead I am miserable and exhausted.

Congrats to all who have got their happy ending recently?

Sorry for the rant but i dont think anyone else would understand unless they had been through it themselves.

Sorry to hear this Newgirl, it sounds like you've had your fair share of being messed around by the DWP!!!

I was told at interview that more than one person can be at any 1 position on the waiting/merit list... so it would be possible that the 141 permanent positions were filled in fewer positions. I dont know if i'm wording this correctly, but basically there could be 10 people at position one, 15 people at position two etc.... so even if they hadn't messed up with your CRB, it was never definate you would get a perm job??!!

Look on the bright side, at least your torment has come to an end.

Congratulations and good luck in your new job!!
  • Pls any info for irc60541 will be highly appreciated.

Yeh I meant irc60076 - wow 362 people!! I can't imagine many failing checks, if anyone had a bad past then they wouldnt have applied - my interview was on the 26 June and i've received my crb although they havent yet contacted my current employer (which I hope they don't until they can give start dates otherwise it may make things alittle awkward at work) - anyways the wait goes on, so much for the Aug/Sept starts advice that you were given at your last assessment. Good luck!

Look at it this way..... We all seem to have got our successful letters on Saturday. Which is when they started checks (24 July is the date on my letter). Already on Wednesday 4.49pm they have done 154 out of 362 checks. I think they give people the 6wks time line to save themselves from being hounded about results. LOL!!! Anyhow at hat rate they shall finish soon. Probably those whose checks have gone through will start August/September as previously stated. Just that some of us may lag behind. So their 12 week timeline is still plausible.

Also, remember the bulk of Birmingham's cut of the 25000 people JC wants to employ by Sept will come off IRC60076? Also, some have other job offers, some have been put of by the working hours introduced after our interviews and others (like me) are in other DWP recruitment exercises. That 362 will be cut down considerably!!!

I prefer to be optimistic within reason and I feel good about the pace it is going at. It's only after the promised 12 weeks that I will feel cheated.
I can do all things through him who gives me strength....:A
