I got a call from Manpower about a week ago, for 2198. I am yet to receive a call for 2 other exercises that I applied for, I guess I will give them a call tomorrow.

Why did you apply for Abeerdeen and Newcastle if you live in London

Edit: so, am I correct in saying you have applied for 30 excercises and only recived a reply for 4 of them ?
I am keen to know as well, how is it you applied for Sheffield when you live in London, do yo intend to commute or intend to move near to work if successful?

The DWP told me they sent off my disclosure over a week ago, but disclosure scotland have not seen it arrive yet? Is this normal? :S

You may need to get the HR at the District Office to chase this up with Newcastle. I have a lad on my caseload who had confirmation of his CRB being ok, but it then got lost in the system, and he was going to be turned down for his AO job.

I had to get a lady at our District Office to get on Newcastle's back about it. It's now being sorted and he's starting next week.
    Fokking Fokk!

Hi. I take it you mean 60076? I called about it today. Turns out they sent successful letters and simply put everyone on the waiting list while doing background checks. There are 362 people on that list and as of today around 4:49 they had done checks on 154. She said to give it up to 6 weeks. She has no idea how many people are wanted or when they are to start. However, she said it appears the vacancies cover a large area so the length of the list should not be cause for concern, especially since some people do not make it through the checks. So as the checks get carried out, a merit list is drawn up.

Oh... I have not been checked yet. My interview was 29 June which is probably one of the last.

    I hope that helps.

Yeh I meant irc60076 - wow 362 people!! I can't imagine many failing checks, if anyone had a bad past then they wouldnt have applied - my interview was on the 26 June and i've received my crb although they havent yet contacted my current employer (which I hope they don't until they can give start dates otherwise it may make things alittle awkward at work) - anyways the wait goes on, so much for the Aug/Sept starts advice that you were given at your last assessment. Good luck!

Just had this e-mail conversation with the person in charge of my exercise:

I have received your message to call back regarding the above exercise. Apologies, but it really busy at the moment and I thought I would contact via e-mail to ensure you receive a response. Just to let you know that you have indeed passed all your checks and have been placed on the waiting list pending the business contacting you with possible start dates. I must re-iterate that it is not us who contacts you and it will be when the Business are ready for more applicants that they will contact you direct.

I hope this answers your query.

    Reply:

Thank you for your e-mail. I appreciate you are very busy, in fact, it is very nice for you to say that as many people I have spoken to in your department have simply said “this is how long it takes” when questioned on why it is taking so long to commence my employment. As you can see from your attached letter, I have been waiting since the 28th May to start the job and it is getting a little frustrating to say the least!

Please could you give me the contact details of the person at the business so I can get a better idea of how long it is likely to be before I start. I was told at interview that there was going to be 20 jobs and I have previously been told that I was 14th in the merit list, I want to know if I have moved since the checks have been completed.

    Reply from her:
Unfortunately I am not at liberty to give out Business telephone numbers. All I can offer is that they have some people due to start but as to how many more they are needing and if they are, when they are due to start - I cannot comment.

I understand how frustrating this must be for you as I too am in the same position, on merit lists for 3 DWP positions. I am not pinning my hopes on them and still applying for other jobs as there is no guarantee of a position at the end of the 12 month waiting period.

I am getting varying comments coming back from other applicants as to what they were told at interview regarding how many positions and start dates etc.

All I can say is keep positive but please do apply for other jobs in the meantime as it will not hurt your position on the waiting list, merely give you more choice.

    Doesn't sound good does it!

Only reason why I've been waiting so bloody long is cos I was told that I was 14th on the merit list and there was 20 jobs!

    Hi

They contacted my employer twice before giving me a start date. My employer then started advertising my job!!!!!!! despite the fact that I had not handed in my notice. Moreover they kept asking me if I was still leaving and when!!!!! Talk about an awkward situation.

I cannot believe what has happened and how appalling the recruitment procedures really are. I am so angry today that I feel sick!!!

My time line was applying in Feb for a permanent position in the Birmingham and Solihull area. My interview on the 25th of March, successful letter 11th of April, Checks letter 29th of May and my crb sent to Newcastle on the 22nd/23rd June. I was told that there were 141 people on the list and all would get a job, I was 26th.

Newcastle confirmed they had received my crb and so I waited. I waited three weeks and called a few times to be told that my checks were coming along nicely and it would not be long before they were cleared etc etc. On the last attempt on the 10th of July, i was told that actually they did not have my crb. I sent it again and was assured that my checks were cleared and passed to the business and i would hear very soon. Another three week wait with again being told that my checks were definitely cleared when i phoned Newcastle.

I decided yesterday to phone the district office instead of Newcastle as I was sick of waiting. Guess what..... no one as ever heard of me and they have not had my cleared checks!!! Unbelievable.

To be fair the man i spoke to was very efficient and called me back this morning to say everything was sorted and he could offer me a job. Wowee:j I was very happy, until he mentioned the 18 month fixed term contract and a jobcentre that was not even in my district!!!!

I nearly cried, after all this time I am now being told I don’t have a permanent job. The jobcentre i can live with as it’s about an hrs drive. The excuse was that there were only 141 perm positions which have now been filled... yeah probably because Newcastle messed me about so much that I missed the boat!! However I was also told that there were 190 something on this list and I was 130 something? Maths may not be my best quality but even I know 130 something is therefore in the 141 range! I am currently in the process of kicking up a stink. I should be ecstatic today that I got 'the call' and instead I am miserable and exhausted.

Congrats to all who have got their happy ending recently?

Sorry for the rant but i dont think anyone else would understand unless they had been through it themselves.

The tests are the same, it's just that the pass marks are different.
