• DanH84 I do hope so, while I knew from this thread that things took time. When others who where successful with IRC numbers higher than our's started to get start dates. It did start to look a bit bleak.
Good luck & we may met in the world of DWP (would send you smiley but they seem of disappeared !)

Hi there every1,
Wud like to thank u guys for givin me great advice earlier, especially lili.
I started the other role yesterday and its pretty gud so far. Working for the Civil service here aswell, spoke to some of the staff about the oppurtunity 2 progress. They all seem to be really happy wiv the organisation and therefore telling me great things about the organisation. This is not the case wiv DWP, as my aunt has been working as an EO for the past six years and she still in the same position. She gets about £400 payrise each year but thats it, she has been telling me that progressing further within the organisation is really difficult, almost impossible.
However I still dont know whether to stay here at this post I recently started (mainly admin duties) or start DWP EO post. I will be getting paid over £3k more working within DWP however as stated above I dont want to stay in the same position for a number of years.
Have any1 applied for the IRC 60227 post? Have u heard anything yet?? cos they havent contacted me since they told me they were contacting my referee's, this was about 3weeks ago. Anyone heard anything new??

Can anyone let me in on how the flexi time works? My post offered is full time hours between 8 and 8 and 9-1 Sat (do JC's really open Saturdays?)
Anyhow i wondered how the flexi time works. How long is a working day there and how long do you have for lunch?
Anyone?
Anything you do over your normal working day counts as flex so some days you can work more hours and some days less. Or you can save it up and have a day off. Lunch is half hour but again you can have longer you will be given core hours when you have to be in work which you will be told about by your line manager

Congratulations mpatel86,
You say you started with the Civil Service on Monday and I was wondering which department you are now working for as it's always good to hear the staff have good things to say about where they work.

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. The only thing that is quite worrying is that this EO position is a 12 month temporary position, and therefore there is a high possibility that I may not be able to carry on the post after this time period, as DWP is recruiting a large number of EO's due to the current economic crisis.
U said u applied for the same role, did they ask u to specify a specific area you would want to work? Others have been asked this question however I werent asked anything of such in my interview. I actually want to be based in stratford, ilford or somewhere nearby.

Has anybody waited over 6 months?

I have.

I think it is rediclously unfair when others i starting and they had completed their tests/interview at amuch later date and already getting start dates and others have had to wait.

Not only that, this recuritment process has been a shambles, so disorganised what kind of people do they have working at DWP.

no qualifications, no experince needed to get the job, maybe its similar peple with no qualificaitons or experince dealing with our applicaitons.

Waiting over 3 months is unreasnble.

And others having to do interviews again coz their marks were not recorded, then others being told they only take a batch at a time...what kind of process is this? no clear indicaiton on the forms.

The numbers hardly anyone picks up and even when they do...not really helpful..as they dont even know the asnwers to the questons we ask.

Email the person below if you also reckon the recruiment process was not fair

The Department’s recruitment processes are underpinned by the principle of selection for appointment on merit on the basis of fair and open competition as outlined in the Civil Service Commissioners' Code which can be found at If you feel your application has not been treated in accordance with the Code and you wish to make a complaint, you should contact Pam Hirlam; pamela.hirlam@dwp.gsi.gov.uk in the first instance. If you are not satisfied with the response you receive from the Department you can contact the Office of the Civil Service Commissioners.”

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had applied for a EO position in Derbyshire and had heard anything back yet? It's just that it's been 4 weeks since the interview and I've heard nothing back yet.

You might be down as 'withrawn interest'. It's happened to me. After an interminable wait(initial stages Feb!!), a couple of weeks ago I went postal and got through to local job managers. Even though all was still officially on track with Newcastle, the job allocators at local level had me down as 'withdrawn interest in the post'. I mean  this was despite Manpower ringing to confirm I was still interested a mere 3 weeks or so prior to that. Oh there's so much scope for fkuppery which is why people have to demand contact details for the local jobholder when there has been unreasonable delay. When I had my breakthrough day with DWP, I used the 4 month delay as a lever to get local info from Newcastle, because everyone I spoke to agreed that the delay wasn't normal. If I hadn't pressed matters, I still be waiting for something I apparently wasn't interested in any more.

As for, should a 12 month contract be taken, I'd love to say if you're good, they'll keep you, and that's how it should be. But knowing the *system*, they might have to treat permanent contracts (like they were offering early in the recruitment) with precedence. But I do know this, there are various agencies and organisations who will take on people with a good knowledge of DWP payments in a flash, so at EO level (band C), even if you do only last a year, you'll have extremely marketable skills if you use your loaf and take in every bit of information/training you can get.
