Whats this assessment exercise you went to all about? Did they say how many people they lookin to take on?

I applied for IRC61418 Birmingham and Black Country. There was a literacy and numeracy exercise last week. Interviews this coming week. The job had been advertised for a very short time as 'possible' vacancies.

Anyhow, I gleaned from there that the DWP wants to take on 25 000 new staff nationwide by end of September. Apparently the bulk of the Birmingham quota will come from IRC60076. Don't take my word for it though, it's just something I heard from one of the recruitment staff.
I can do all things through him who gives me strength....:A

Found this thread some time ago when looking for info re DWP Lit/Num tests. Never posted on a forum before so here goes...

    Timescale of events

5 April applied online for A/O role (IRC 58662)
27 May Email to attend DWP Assessment
2 June passed Lit/Num tests & had interview with Capita
10 June successful ltr (no mention of waiting list)
    18 June Lit/Num results
    23 June CRB cert
16 July rang Newcastle was told all checks done should hear in 2 weeks

Sunday 19 July call from DWP offering me job start 7 Sept:j.
Training 8-11 Sept. I enquired about P/T working. Minimum hours are 30 which I am doing. At no stage of the process have I had the option to state my preferred office until I got the call and was offered what would have been my 1st choice. Capita did say at interview they would try & offer area closest to home.

From start to finish 5 months. I can go on holiday in August & not wonder if I have missed The Call & kids go back to school on 7th!

Wonder how many others out there waiting?
I am suprised they said minimum p/t hours were 30 they have let me do 25. I was told no problem with p/t as long as I am prepared to do the late nights.

Hi there congratulations:j, enjoy the holiday. I am unsure when to book holidays for (with the children), just incase I miss the call etc.. may I ask you how are your hours divided over the week or is this yet to be confirmed and is 30 hours considered P/T?. Many thanks
They will call on your mobile if they have the number, I played it safe and took a holiday in the UK just in case but have had my call and they have honored my holiday planned for the 3rd Aug and said I can start on the 25th

This might be relevant to LandslideVictory....

I turtled off to the blob centre plus this morning to sign off and got talking to a lady - the manager in fact - about what I would be likely to be doing (I'll be working in the same one). She said it would be working upstairs as an advisor and dealing with new claims; I'm quite looking forwards to it :)

I'm a bit nonplussed as to how this happened; I only signed on in the first place so I could get two crowns fixed on the NHS - I didn't expect to end up working there :D:D:D
Hope your teeth are ok Orb you will need them at times to grimace through when someone is stringing you a line as to why they didn't go for the interview you sent them on:D:D

    Hi
you don't mean job interviews do you or is it work focused interviews? as I am wondering, are there people out there who get job interviews and do not turn up, given todays economic climate.

    Hi

I have been told twice that p/t hours were 30. Capita told me at interview & when lady from DWP in Leeds rang to offer me job she also said p/t hours were 30. I suppose depends who you speak to. I will make some enquiries tomorrow when I sign on.

Previously I worked for HMRC for 24 years until made pre-surplus in Feb. Over the years I have done 16 hrs, 21, 30 as well as full time 37. I thought DWP would have been same as long as meets business needs.

When did you do your interviews? How long did you have to wait to get offered a job?

Just to add to the Newcastle woe:

I missed a call from Newcastle on Friday only to ring them back to ask what it was for and they proceeded to ask me if I actually wanted the EO position I was offered still.

I said obviously 'Yes' as I had sent the acceptance slip back via both post and scanned & emailed but apparently they have never received it!

Glad its sorted now and I'm starting work on the 3rd of August but still.

On a positive note as signing off JSA I got £120 of Burton vouchers and a travel pass for a month to help get started!

Does anyone know whether these opening hours are going to apply to the Disability Centres as well as I will be based in Bootle DBC and am really not up for Saturday work if it can be helped!

How did you get these? I am going to need a whole new work wardrobe when I start my next job!

Ask to speak to an advisor about the Adisor Discretionary Fund as that is what it comes from to the best of my knowledge.

I just explained that I had been in University for the past 4 years and had little need of formal clothes.

As the title suggests, its up to the person you speak to to decide on the individual merits of your situation.

    Hope this helps.
