Interesting thread this one, seems a lot of people are in the same boat.

I've received my success letter, waiting list thing today as well for a position in Leicester. I'm just wondering what next really. I was made redundant a few months back, been looking but not much luck (same story everytime, always make the interview, then the sorry letter comes through) and am happy I've got this letter at least it shows I'm employable (well, at least half way there).

Anyway, what should I do now? Is it worth ringing Newcastle to find out about the waiting list thing, or just hang on? Don't want to harass them or anything, but I do want the position, and don't want to take up a worse job while waiting, or walking out on an employer as its quite frankly very rude to do so. On the other hand, I need to work, so not sure I can wait for upto 12 months.

Any advice? Mainly is it worth ringing up Newcastle for info, or will that reflect badly? The interview was only 3 weeks ago, but I asked about starting and they said by Mid August, which would be perfect.

    Thanks.

I can't help you with that I'm afraid. I've reread the letter and it's weird to get my head around. It says I'm on a 12 month waiting list, and no offer of employment is guaranteed. It also says any offer of a post is subject to mandatory pre appointment checks. The next paragraph says we are currently undertaking pre recruitment checks and you will be contacted again once these are complete to confirm whether or not they can offer a post.

So, are they waiting for a post then doing the checks, doing the checks just in case, or doing the checks as they have a placement lined up?

    Really confusing at times.

I called up the Newcastle number and was told I'm 44th on the waiting list. When I questioned that at interview the interviewer told me these positions they are recruiting now for start in September, he said they'd already been allocated so it would definitely be after that. So I'm carrying on the job hunt as absolutely nothing is guaranteed with them, and also the JobCentre will require you to keep looking for work too.

I think I'll give them a bell then. If it looks likely, I may slow down the hunt for a bit, but keep looking. Don't want to take the wrong job.

Thats what I've done anyway, I decided even if I do get a job in the meantime I can always leave...as from the sound of it it'll be at least three months before they offer me anything.

From my experience and conversations with the people at HR, A waiting list letter that says they are starting the checks is more hopeful as one that doesn't mention the checks. Mine was the same, i was 73rd on my merit/waiting list, the lady in Newcastle said that if they were doing my checks already then it means they are thinking they will likely need you sooner rather than later. My waiting list letter was on 16th May and i am starting work on 20th July.

I've been successful in my interview for AO in Newcastle. At the interview they told me they wanted to get people started in September but now I'm on a waiting list. Is this normal practice?

It was on 6th July. And I got the letter today.

Still shocked the woman at the interview actually lied to me about start dates and that there was no waiting list!

Start as HEO 3rd August. :T

Congratulations! :T This just proves how random the DWP are in their allocation and notification of posts. We received our success letters at the same time, I received my calls before you yet I'm starting a week after you!!! :rotfl:
    Well done!:T

    My letter says
''we are now undertaking pre-recruitment checks and you will be contacted again once these are complete to confirm whether or not we are able to offer you a post".

Then it goes on to say if appointed and I havnt already given a NI number i will have too, to get on the payroll.

then it mentions HMRC but that wont be a problem because im only 17 and never had a job.

My letter mentions nothing of a waiting list. I want this job because it sounded so fun. I dont no how long the checks will take but on their website it said up to 20 days and I dont want to hastle them but I am concerned about this some people are on a waiting list thing.:(.

well done, what role have you applied for AA, AO, or EO?
