I've just found the following on the JCP website regarding working hours:
Pilot to test revised service hours
Jobcentre Plus has announced an enhanced customer service pilot in the Tees Valley District. Jobcentres will open from 8am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays from late July. The pilot will then be extended to Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Districts, as well as one other in the East Midlands, in September.
There will also be a pilot to extend benefit processing until 8pm, which may involve calling some customers in the early evening. Finally, there is an additional pilot to call customers to complete their new claim to benefit, also until 8pm.
These pilots initially form part of the Jobcentre Plus response to the economic downturn. They will allow us to test further steps to ensure that we are doing everything we can to help people back into work and ensure people receive their benefits quickly.
The potential benefits for customers will be carefully monitored and the results used to inform any decisions about extending the service nationwide and whether this should become part of our business.

hi there just thought i'd add my experiences so far
25 May Applied EO position with DWP in Liverpool
Late May tests
Early June interview
Early July called with start date of 3rd August
been told I'll be having 2 months of training initially.
just wondering if anyone who is currently working for them knows what happens with regard to contracts and starting salary? Newcastle are fairly useless to get info from but I assume I will be sent out a contract before my start date?
Also if my pay banding is 18,750 - 23,900 will I automatically start on the bottom of the pay scale?
I was told at interview the hours were standard working week 9-5 but now I am slightly worried by the notion of Saturday work.. are these hourly changes across the board?

Re new opening hours.
In Yorkshire and Humber there is a job for an AO to work 4.45pm til 8,45pm Mon-Thurs.
So will be taking on extra staff to cover late hours?0 -

I also know that another of the hold ups is the sheer scale of the recruitment in terms of utilising trainers nationally and finding venues for the training periods, which can be take place up to six weeks in some cases, and not forgetting that different grades are being taken on, so it is mega in terms of numbers. I think my major issue is not having a start date confirmed, I really want this so that I can relax and stop applying for other posts. I wouldn't care if the start was in three months time, as long as I knew it was definitely coming. The 'not knowing' (and not trusting, I have to say!!) is driving me insane.
Again, anyone out there who has applied for EO role, IRC58395, (South Tyne and Wear Jobcentres) who is waiting, or recently had THE CALL (!!) please let me know !!!! Is there anyone out there?!!

I've been successful in my interview for AO in Newcastle. At the interview they told me they wanted to get people started in September but now I'm on a waiting list. Is this normal practice?0
