DWP employment waiting list

aaarggh i dont know what to do? any advice welcome!! I have been told that my checks have been emailed to my vacancy holder and i should hear this week. I have also been offered an on-going temp position which starts Monday. I thought this would work out nicely as i would either hear (or not) this week and then make my excuses for Monday or start work as a temp knowing that it would be a while before i would need to leave, however i have just been called and asked to start the temp job tom at 08.30. I feel really bad for the temp place as they have had a lot of staff leave after a few weeks and really are looking for someone long term so i dont want to mess them about BUT i dont know whether to call up and say i cant take the job as i have had 'the call' and take a risk? or whether to turn up as i might not actually get 'the call' for a few weeks if not months??? and the start date may be weeks away still?0

Hi,
I would take the temp job. You have to look after number one. I can understand you not wanting to mess them about but " The call" could be another 4-6 weeks or more given the threads on this forum.
Good luck. I'm sure yo'll make the right decision for you.

Well everyone I also got THE CALL earlier today :j:j.
Start 27th July at my local office with initial training done there.
It looks like IRC57875 has finally taken off!! Orb got the call a week or so ago with myself, jimdfish and cadellin getting THE CALL this week - so anyone out there on IRC57875 who still hasn't had one it's on it's way. We have all been successful 'waiting list' - and have all been waiting since w/c 23/3/09.
THE WAIT OVER FOR US .
To everyone else out there still waiting especially Chi Chi keep the faith that the call will come soon.

just wanted to ask for anyone's opinion. During the long wait for the EO position. I applied for an HEO position elsewhere in the Civil Service. If I got invited to interview and was successful, would it be easy to move across or a problem. Probably would be a long wait again.
Hi All,
Just returned from a short break and working my way through the posts.
I think the answer to this question depends on whether the HEO role is within DWP or not. If it is not then you will probably hav e to resign from one post by giving notice just like you would if it was an ordinary company. If it is within DWP then I do not think it would be as much of a problem (more like an internal transfer on promotion).0 -
Got the call at 1:06pm today. Are you still interested? she said! Start 24th August at Stockport(my local) jobcentre. She confirmed it's full time and training will be there too. Also told me salary is £20,240 for 37 hrs per week. EO post. My test interview were 23rd March 1045am at CoMS. Good luck to all irc57875 applicants and keep your mobile close!
Well done Cadellin.
If she'd have read your posts she'd have seen your were more than still interested. Glad you got your local office. I was at CoMS too on the 23rd but at 3pm so had to go back on the Wednesday for my interview.
If your not starting until 24th August you've got a few more weeks off. Happy days!!0 -

I agree with OliviaJTB. Take the temp job and wait for the call. It's about looking after No1 now so don't worry if you have to leave in a couple of days or weeks. You are the important thing in this situation.0 -

Thanks for the advice and i have decided to start the temp job tomorrow. Even though Newcastle are saying 'the call' should be this week, we all know how accurate their info is at times!!
Congrats to everyone who has got their call today, well done :j0 -

I did exactly the same. I started in my EO role on 15th June and was interviewed for an HEO role on 10th July. I informed my manager of the situation early doors and all my managers & colleagues have been supportive. It has meant that they're not going to spend out too much on my training until they know whether I have been successful or not.“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”

Hi Reebok-Bolton. It sure is a big recruitment. In terms of numbers, I have heard that 16000 are being recruited, and they have only got to 7000. I have also read on this forum that even if your checks are cleared, but someone else higher up the merit list hasn`t, then not a lot moves. I don`t know how true this is, but it seems plausible. Which to me means if there are 50 postings, it does not matter if you are No1 or No 50, no-one gets posted until all are cleared, one way or another. There are a lot of conflicting opinions. It is, and has been frustrating. We definately may have a job, and until that call comes, it is only a maybe. Not reassuring is it? My checks were cleared in an earlier exercise, but still have to wait for `due process` in this, my home county. So, a similar position to yourself. This one was Beds/Herts, and am now just waiting for the CALL. I am pretty sure it will be soon, as they have re-advertised for two areas within this region (Watford & Luton). These two locations were on the preference sheet, so I assume that they did not get enough successful candidates, or it is to maintain a waiting list. However, hope you get the call soon.:money:
Yeah you're right, it is a huge exercise. I only wish that they would give some firm commitment to us having a job then we probably wouldn't all feel so frustrated and not know where we stand. This forum probably wouldn't have even been born!! I have heard that about the people higher on the list do have to be posted first or at least given their start date according to their current employer notice, but at the same time, I can't help but think that from 1st April interviews to mid July now, that those checks shouldn't take THAT long !! Not unless someone has been working on the moon and the martians don't quite understand the HMRC forms... lolI know they're due to re-advertise in the South Tyne & Wear area, but this is on hold until they clear the current waiting lists, so I feel some reassurance from the Jobcentre telling me that, yet nothing but THE CALL will ease this frustration !! Good luck & hope you hear soon
