Hey.
I got a success letter yesterday from Newcastle after passing my interview etc etc, and was told i was on a waiting list. Wasn't really sure what that meant so i did some reading up and found myself here.
After reading everyones posts i'm a little worried about the organisation of it all. Anyone have any advice on waht i should do etc?
Thanks. And congrats to those people who got 'that call'0 -

I got a success letter from the interview. For the posts at Wear View House in Sundeland. How long does it take for the pre- recruitment checs. Anyone??0

Interview date: 1st April
Letter (successful & on 12 month waiting list) : supposed to receive the letter within the week, eventually received after much chasing about 3 weeks later
Conversations with HR in Newcastle confirmed everyone on the list would be posted, however it's now 3.5 months on & no further forwards in receiving that much-awaited phone call.
Update on last week: Called HR to see if any further forwards (all checks completed & CRB received) and no commitment could be given, no firm answers. Then pressed for answers in the local Jobcentre, to be told they were still taking on over 100 and STILL no date can be provided. I am so reluctant to sit & wait on this job until it's confirmed properly, but having had no luck with other jobs, I fail to see any other option.
Anyone in the same position for this vacancy, or who has just been posted, please let me know, I'd love to find out what number they're down to on the list....0 -

yep just like you went to hotel for interviews, told successful and on list, number 34, cannot get anything from laura noble, is that who you talk to, when you think about it what a waste of tax payers money, all resources going into a sunday, bet they all got double time for it, would love the evening chronicle to get hold of the tale, i have just left my wife and living at home with parents really need this to move on
Hi Torty, great to hear from someone in the same boat. It would appear that we have different contacts for this vacancy, is yours EO for JCP too, under IRC58395 ? Reason I ask is that I think that one person is in charge of each vacancy & my contact is a guy. I'm really confused about my position on the list, as I was originally 90 something, then two weeks ago 80 something and now early 50s.(not being specific as I've had some issues with my contact at HR!!) I would love it too if the press got hold of this story as the whole recruitment process is appalling... never ever heard of so many people being told they ? may have a job ? but please wait & we'll be in touch and so on & so forth. Things really get you down don't they when home life is tough as well as not working0 -

Congrats :beer:to everyone who's had 'the call' in the last few days. I've been working elsewhere and haven't had a chance to really read this thread.
If anyone is wondering about personal refs, mine weren't contacted at all. From what I've read on here, personal refs are not contacted unless there is some difficulty with checking employment history. Like the entire process, it's all a bit obscure and unpredictable.
Someone was mentioning writing to Yvette Cooper. If you do, I recommend writing to your MP and asking them to raise it with her. It's slightly more effective than writing direct.
There are enough horror stories on here to warrant some sort of investigation. In my experience, people who shout loud enough do get listened to. There is also the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration (the 'Ombudsman') who deals with maladministration by Govt Depts. People who really feel they've been shafted over might want to try that route. Then there's the complaints process attached to civil service recruitment. The link from the DWP jobs page seems to be broken but it can probably be googled or found somewhere on the Cabinet Office site.
Long-winded processes in themselves, but for those who have been treated shoddily and denied employment at the last minute , worth a punt?:idea:0 -

Not sure the press would be interested, really. It would have to be a very slow news day for 'civil servants in delayed employment shocker' to hold the front page. But see my above post for other approaches.:idea:0
