funningly enough i applied for ao position, but somehow ended up on this role, what number do you ring, is ur position based at cobalt ctre, i think we mst have been at the same assessment ctre, i have not moved at all on list, so now looking for different contacts
Hi Torty,
Sounds like the usual organised chaos and confusion then !!
HR number that I have is 0191 216 2086 (they moved offices a while back), tho to be honest, it takes days to get someone to answer.
No, I think IRC58395 is for Job Centre Plus offices, not the Cobalt, I had to pick six regional offices from a list of 12, tho to be honest I would take any, I really have no preference. I would ring them to check which position/list they have you down for, sounds like they have their wires crossed somewhere along the line.Good luck with getting some answers !! I'm so tired of waiting...

Not sure the press would be interested, really. It would have to be a very slow news day for 'civil servants in delayed employment shocker' to hold the front page. But see my above post for other approaches.
Hi Lili, appreciate your comments. I don't know, while I agree it's not front page news, I think the way the employment market is at the moment, with so many people struggling to find work that the wholly inefficient recruitment process of a major government department, given the scale and numbers of people being affected would attract a fair amount of interest, particularly from the opposition. If I was Mr Cameron, I would be having a field day reading this forum !!! :T0 -

:eek:Hi-I would like to add my thoughts to this matter, as it has caused me to wonder why it is such a long winded process. My conclusion is as follows. When applicants complete the on line forms, details about employment history are listed here. At no stage during this initial process, are applicants advised that verification of their previous employment would be sought from HMRC. For instance, if an applicant has a somewhat dodgy employment history, and elects to enter the name of a firm that has long since gone to the wall, safe in the knowledge that it cannot be verified because the firm does not exist anymore, then this is eventually discovered, because of the HMRC checks. But at this stage, people are left wondering why they have not heard anything. Over the last 1 month I have received 3 success letters. The first 2 stated that they were carrying out pre employment checks, that is all. The 3rd one, received 2 weeks ago, which lends weight to what I suspect, stated in bold type, Employment history verification will be sought from HMRC. Why the change? I think it is because of what I suspect, and that an enormous number of applications are being found to be unsuitable, but, in the process, the checking teams must feel like they are chasing shadows, and it is this that is clogging the system. My own thought on this, is that it should have been made abundantly clear at application form stage, just who the employment checks would be made with, HMRC. This in itself would have acted as a sift. It is estimated that something like 60% of people applying for any sort of employment, lie on their CV. On a small scale, this would be found out very quickly. On a recruitment exercise the size of this, the checking must be a nightmare. It was only when I joined this forum, that I discovered about HMRC checks, and in my last success letter. How many applicants, are not on this, or a similar forum, and do not know about HMRC checks? This, I believe, is the reason for the change of wording on my last success letter. Just my thoughts, but valid ones, I think.
Hi there, I think you are quite right, however I know just in my case, that all my checks have been completed and this was well over a month ago. I also know that another of the hold ups is the sheer scale of the recruitment in terms of utilising trainers nationally and finding venues for the training periods, which can be take place up to six weeks in some cases, and not forgetting that different grades are being taken on, so it is mega in terms of numbers. I think my major issue is not having a start date confirmed, I really want this so that I can relax and stop applying for other posts. I wouldn't care if the start was in three months time, as long as I knew it was definitely coming. The 'not knowing' (and not trusting, I have to say!!) is driving me insane.
Again, anyone out there who has applied for EO role, IRC58395, (South Tyne and Wear Jobcentres) who is waiting, or recently had THE CALL (!!) please let me know !!!! Is there anyone out there?!!

Slightly off thread subject, but I wonder if anyone could answer this for me: I intend to let income support know that I am starting work tommorrow, a week before my start date. Does anyone know how long it will take for me to receive my job grant? Will it be the next day I would have received my income support ordinarily, or does it take ages to come through?
Thanks in advanceOne day I will be a [STRIKE]respectable[/STRIKE] Civil Servant.Until then, I will be a secret MSE poster :shhh:0 -

:TGood luck tomorrow, hope all goes well. Cannot help with info, as I will be going thru similar in a few weeks time. Only info I could find out was that being on JSA for 26 weeks, and then starting a new job, I will qualify for £100 job grant. If it had not have been for this forum, I would not even have known about that. At least it will cover my fuel for a month. How long it takes, I just do not know. Did you claim your clothing allowance? I think a few would have claimed up to £300. Why not! Good luck, you will be fine, and unemployment will become a distant memory.;);)
I'm not aware of a seperate clothing allowance and can't find any info about this on direct.gov. Do you have a link to this info at all?
Or does anybody?
I need all the help i can get. I'm already broke and have no idea how i'll survive til the 1st pay day! I'm not entitled to in work credit as I haven't been on benefits for long enough. One day I will be a [STRIKE]respectable[/STRIKE] Civil Servant.Until then, I will be a secret MSE poster :shhh:0 -

I am not on your recruitment but fully agree that not knowng a start date is awful. Like you I don't mind if it takes another few months if I knew when I will start.
I think most of us would have been happy with something like that...0
