Having previously worked in the Civil Service for god knows how many years I know how these things work. Letter arrives in Minister's office, staff look at and decide how to proceed i.e. 'treat official' which means send down the line to operational level, usually EO and ask them to reply on Minister's behalf. Or 'draft reply' again send down the line to operational level to draft a reply for Minister to sign, this time draft reply goes up through the ranks for them to amend etc or ask for imput from other divisions/departments. 'draft reply' put in front of Minister to sign and office then despatch. Not entirely sure how higher grades would react to staff or potential staff pursuing this course of action!!!!!!!!!!! I for one would certainly not consider it.

Anybody on the list live in Yvette Cooper's constituency and fancy turning up at her local meetings to discuss this with her face to face, sounds like it might work better than writing to her office...

I am thinking of writing to the consumer programme " you and yours" about this. for those who dont know it is radio fours lunchtime flagship, similar to Watchdog but obviously on radio and broadcast daily. If we joined together and sent co-ordinated e-mails maybe thet could geta response and some answers. Anyone else interested?

Email them the link to some of the recent postings, that should excite their interest!

Can anyone explain to me how they can start another recruitment ie Black Country EO, when no-one has been posted from the previous recruitment, the one I am waiting for. I hope they know what they are letting themselves in for. They may start by Christmas.....not!

Insufficient successful candidates to fill all positions?

    Lets start again........

    Hey.

I got a success letter yesterday from Newcastle after passing my interview etc etc, and was told i was on a waiting list. Wasn't really sure what that meant so i did some reading up and found myself here.

After reading everyones posts i'm a little worried about the organisation of it all. Anyone have any advice on waht i should do etc?

Thanks. And congrats to those people who got 'that call' :)

Where are you on the merit list?

this is what i can't understand. I rang and asked and the woman said that unfortunately she couldn't tell me the exact position but it was within the top 20.

When I first enquired I had been told that Newcastle would give out interview scores but not merit list positions... so I rang up to ask for my score and got told that they don't give out scores but gave me my merit list number...

But I would consider top 20 as very good... of course that depends on the number of posts actually available and I don't think you can get that information unless you have contact details of the vacancy co-ordinator.

nothing is ever simple with these people..

    Hi Chi Chi,

I do understand your position at the moment. Today my CRB came back from DS, i sent it over by scanner. I was then sent a message from the Checker confirming that all my checks were complete. I just spoke to one of the recruitment officer and their telling me that i have to wait until Monday for my checks to be cleared. Which i think is a s**it but anyway i have now sent a email to the Recruitment Officer and copied her manager into the email. I hope that will flush them out because this is really starting to hack me off.

My advice is this: do not bother ringing Newcastle at all. The information you get back is likely to be corrupt or a fob-off. Checking that they have all necessary forms is worth doing - but again the person at the other end may be mistaken.

You should be able to tell that your referees have been contacted.

Disclosure Scotland will tell you if they have received a request and when it was sent back. At this point I reckon you're on the last lap.

After that sit and wait. Go to the pub. Do some gardening. Worked for me. Now I have an excellent garden, lots of new friends down the pub and a new job. And a suntan.

    Haha thanks Orb!

I actually just tried ringing Newcastle...the number on my letter, only to be told it was the wrong number and they had had a few calls today asking the same thing. The lady on the phone was very nice but couldn't give me a number to call...so again they are making me annoyed at their disorganisation.
