Oh !!!!!! Chi Chi. What a despicable thing to do.

You're not silly to jump at phone calls at all. We've all been doing it, due to the crappy way it's all been handled.

I really HOPE you get the call soon. From what we all know from this thread, there's no rhyme or reason behind the way they act. Let's hope it works in your favour.

In the meantime, yes, put every effort into other jobs. Don't forget you're on the list for 12 months and frankly, they are crazy if they don't employ YOU.

Thanks lili and everyone, these are such lovely messages.. the hotel job I went for yesterday treated me so much better than DWP so I'm inclined to think they are actually the better people to work for right now... they even told me I would be an asset to their team and gave me a start date there and then.. they also said they'd review wages after the first month.

I will still have DWP in the back of my mind for the next 7 months (I pressume the '12 month waiting list' starts from the date of my success letter so 4 months lost already) but I am not going to obsess in the same way that I have been.. I am actually in quite a calm state right now as I have some answers and some closure. My OH is absolutely livid at the whole thing so I guess he is doing most of the ranting for me! I haven't sent feedback yet as I really don't know where to start... but I will

And obviously, I will still folllow the progress of others on here and will them to get their start dates soon :)

I spoke to Newcastle 2 times today. I got good news the first time and dreadful the second.. I wish I never rang now.

In the last few days I spoke to checking team who told me my checks have been completed and paperwork was sent back (2nd July) to the lady in charge of my exercise. Today afternoon I spoke to checking team again (just to be on the safe side) who again confirmed that they were complete and sent back on 2nd July. I was happy hearing this, but it was too good to be true so I rang again, this time the actual person in charge of my exercise.

About 4.40pm, surprisingly she answered the phone (she never does). She seemed rather awkward, so I got the conversation going and asked for an update on a start date. First she said the business will get in touch with me when a vacancy arises subject to the interview merit list. I told her I never had any interview and there was no mention of a merit list on my letter because I did telephone role plays. She got a little confused and then tells me the checking team is undergoing my checks (she said there not complete??) I told her checking team have confirmed they are complete and the paperwork is with you……….. She says “ok, now” and puts the phone down. At this point I’m thinking is she for real??

I call back and the phone just rings (no answer). I am in two minds as to what is going on here?

I then ring checking team who say all is well and checks are definitely cleared they have even given me dates on my crb, employer references and when the paperwork was sent back to her.

Next step, anyone?

At150 that is awful behaviour! how can she just put the phone down on you! My next step would be to email her... As LV said previously, email addresses are firstname.lastname@DWP.GSI.GOV.UK. I did this for my checker and got through to him right away.
I think it gives her a "you can run but can't hide" appeal and she may have to give you answers!

Really hope you get answers soon :)

So that is the state of play at the moment. My success letter from this exercise was dated 24th June, and from what I can see, they do not undertake pre employment enquiries unless a post is imminent.

Good news on the success letter, hope they sort everything quickly for you! I am not sure if each IRC has different strategies for running the checks (This may be where confusion about what info can be given out comes in). But I'll just throw this out there and say that my area did all of my pre-employment checks, CRB etc. only to find out that a post is not available for me or 34 other candidates. As everyone seems to receive a different style of letter and wording, I would hazard a guess that different areas have different procedures and this is probably why Newcastle can't keep anything constant.

As you can work in most areas on you IRC number I would imagine you will definitely be offered a post so good luck and hope things go well :)

so sorry to hear this, but do not lose hope, you know when its dark it is easier to see the stars, and remember Julietormesby had a similar experience and now has a start date. Patience, though it can be taxing, is a virtue.

Hannajks, that is such a lovely quote, thank you :A

Can anyone explain to me how they can start another recruitment ie Black Country EO, when no-one has been posted from the previous recruitment, the one I am waiting for. I hope they know what they are letting themselves in for. They may start by Christmas.....not!
:confused:Same issue here, although for AO. I had success letter, undertaking pre employment enquiries. This is for Beds/Herts. This morning I notice they are recruiting again for 2 exercises, specifically for Watford. The only thing I can think of, is that they need to top up waiting list. It might have to be maintained at a certain level, and I have a feeling that the recent revelation about working times (8am-8pm & Sat 9-5) may have led to a lot of people withdrawing. Although Watford is on my preference sheet, I think I listed it at about 8th choice, as I should imagine parking fees are astronomical there. If they start another recruitment exercise, then hopefully we will hear something very soon:eek:

Something strange just happened....

I got "the call" only it wasn't for me!! They had mixed my phone numbers up with someone elses name! My local recruitment officer phoned my house phone looking for this other person and then my mobile, this smacks of incompetence but I am kind of optimistic after this due to the fact that after I told her she had the wrong number for the second time she then asked for me by name so I must be next on the list or at least close! Not long now (hopefully!!)

Hi Chi Chi

Just a very quick thought but are they adverising again for you area?

No, only advertising for west and south essex, they've left North out this time. Doesn't bode well..

I agree with you TwinPeaks... nothing ever goes as expected so, if I hear it will be when i've given up all hope or consideration of being recruited.

The optimist in me is hoping that my persistence has somehow left my name imprinted in these people's heads and maybe pushed me further up the waiting list.. unlikely if they keep to their strict merit order.. but possible if they are as disorganised in that as everything else!

These things are sent to try us...:rotfl:
