Completely agree with you there Litts!

I have been offered a job today as a Hotel receptionist.. it is minimum wage and terrible working hours but, without knowing how much longer I have to wait for a start date with DWP, I can't turn it down.

Just hoping that the DWP calls really soon... My vacancy holder has apparently had my details for two weeks according to Newcastle, so not a really long wait so far on that side, but definitely longer than the "few days" I was told that I would be waiting.

but more calls seem to be coming in now for everyone so let's hope the good news keeps coming :)

    Hi Chi Chi,

Try and find out who your vacancy holder is, if no one from Newcastle will tell you then try ringing yourlocal job centre and ask them for the phone number of HR. Get local vacancy holder to confirm she has or has not got the papers and take it from there.

    Good ere init!

i asked the person i have been in contact by email with newcastle and the person (who told me me place on the merit list and when my papers were forwarded) has point blank refused to give me that information! as and i quote
''that was not the way it worked and i will be contacted when there is a vacancy''

Strikes me your papers are still at Newcastle. Ask to speak to their line manager.

I was actually totally and utterly amazed to find out that the person in charge of my recruitment exercise in Newcastle was an AO. Nothing whatsoever against AOs but they do have higher grades i.e. EO, HEO, SEO etc.

Hi hannajks I dont know. i only provided postal addresses not e-mail. i did tell my ref to contact me once they receive info and as yet have heard nothing from them. at the moment just giving DWP time and see what happens, when it starts to drag i will chase them again.

I got a call yesterday saying that all of my checks were complete and they would like me to start work on the 27th July. I said I would like the weekend to think about it before giving them a definite answer and they said that would be fine.

(The reason being that I have a written offer for another job but have yet to be given a start date, as their pre-employment checks have yet to be completed. I should get a call either today or tomorrow asking me to start next week, but If that job doesn't come through I would like to go ahead with the DWP's offer).

Is there a chance that by delaying my decision I could lose out on securing the DWP vacancy? I was told there were 50 vacancies and that I was near the top of the list. Would I get bumped down that list as a result of not accepting their offer straight away?

Any advice or info much appreciated!

    SG:beer:

Well done SG - your another one who has received THE CALL whether or not you accept.
I can't see it working against you for them to wait for your answer until over the weekend. The DWP seem quite decent about that. I was told at my interview that you get 3 refusal opportunities after that you don't get another offer.
    Anyway you should be okay.
  • Congratulations!

Another one today. Can we make it a hat trick?

Yeah SmirkyGuy got THE CALL yesterday but only told us today so that makes it a hat trick :beer:

Well, with all the good news that is going on in here I guess there had to be some bad...

I have a received an email from DWP again today... and it says

"The vacancy holder tells me that your choices are blah, blah and blah and at present they have all the band b's they need for those offices. There are 35 other candidates in a similar position to yourself.

If the situation changes and vacancies become available then we will contact you.

    thanks"

Looks like i am out of the running... unless someone quits and none of the other 35 candidates want to take the role in the next 12 months..

I wonder if the other 35 candidates know they are in that postition also??

Additionally they have ended the email with a lovely email address and phone number I can contact as they "welcome any feedback about this product or any other service we have provided for you"

    hmmm where do I start?

Where are you on the merit list?

    Oh no :(

Anyway you can change to a different office?

I'm lucky, the job I've been successful for is a permanent finance admin role based at Companies House in Cardiff (DWP have a floor in the building) so no choices on what job centre I want to work at. Makes it easier but also longer to get a start date...
