Most people who work for the DWP work flex but I heard a rumour they were bringing in fixed hours but dont quote me on that it seems at the moment they can do what they want with us. The hours will definatly be between 8 and 8 mon to fri and either 9 and 1 or 9 and 5 on sat, this will be agreed when you get your call. Saturday will form part of your working week. This info came from my vacancy holder who I spoke to yesrerday, she also said many people are dropping out due to the hours, even if you agree your times when you start they can give you 4 weeks notice that they are going to change your working pattrn due to "needs of the business"

Thanks for that-not that it makes me happy :(. I need the job so badly and have waited patiently through this ridiculously long recruitment process, however I too will have to drop out if they insist i work anything other than hrs between 9-6 as i just won't be able to get the childcare for up to 8pm.
Looks like my job hunting days are not over, even though i'm expecting to be offered a start date any day now......... *sigh*
One day I will be a [STRIKE]respectable[/STRIKE] Civil Servant.
Until then, I will be a secret MSE poster :shhh:

Hi all ! I am so pleased I found this thread as I was just about to give up on there being any hope of being placed at all. (and still need some convincing to be honest...lol) I've on the waiting list for an AO position in the North East (Tees Valley) area since March and am becoming very frustrated at the whole DWP recuitment process. I can understand the whole "in order of merit " method that is used, but what I can't quite get my head around is how my position on the list from tenth on the list (6 weeks after interview, late April) to 2 weeks ago (23rd June) does not appear to have changed at all, when I know that there are actual vacancies that have been filled in the interim? I actually first spoke to my given contact in Newcastle in late April . At the time he advised me of my position and said " it shouldn't be long now as you are quite high up the list ". He also advised me to leave it a month or so and call back if I wanted updating re my progress on the list. I've therefore actually been attempting to track my progress for some time now. After weeks of unsuccessful attempts to get through via telephone (they weren't answering) I eventually got someone to answer about two weeks ago. The woman I spoke to was helpful but advised me that the person I needed to talk to " was not there" and that she had picked up the phone as she was randomly passing by as it rang. This is when I was told that my position on the list had not changed since the last time I had managed to get through (late April) and that my CRB checks had came back fine but "it looked like" they were awaiting other checks?... although she "couldnt be certain about that?" She also could not explain why my position on the list hadnt changed at all in months. Her advice was to call back last week when the person I needed to speak to "may" be there for me to talk to. He wasnt there all last week (or if he was he wasnt answering the phone?) and so far this week I've no success too. I've also tried to contact the person concerned via email and had no reply. I now have no idea what to do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated ..
There are still a few of us on here been waiting since the end of March, Non above me on the Merit list have been posted yet the Vacancy holder told me and I am number 43 so don't dispair:D:D

I think it is the child care issues that have affected most people, i know a frield of mine says she will have a problem, I am lucky my parents live nearby and my oldest will be starting High School in Sept, but I will feel like I never see them and then there are the after school activities. They maybe able to help on the child care issue though if you ask some DWP places have a creche or will subsidise child care, ask if you get the call and good luck.

Almost 2 weeks ago I posted that I had received my call from a nice lady offering me EO (IRC57875) in Middleton starting 30th June - I couldn't manage this due to holiday commitments. However this has been a real bonus for me as she called again on Friday when I was away and offered me my local office instead starting 27th, although the first 8 weeks will be training in Middleton.

I'm very interested in finding out just what I'll be doing that requires 8 weeks training - that's quite a lot.

So good news - no more 6am 100 mile commutes. It's a lot less money that I'm used to but I'm looking forwards to doing something completely different and without the interminable stress of that bloody drive every day ;) I will be able to walk to work! My only small fly in the ointment is that I had booked and paid for a track day at quite some expense - this falls inside my first two weeks training and evidently time off in these two weeks is a no-no. I'll just have to take that one on the chin.

I'm looking forwards to this and hoping I enjoy it - anyone know what I'm likely to be doing?

    Hi

I sympathise with you totally here. I had an interview for an AO post way back in May, in Liverpool, and despite numerous phone calls to HR, I STILL haven't had an interview result letter yet.

    Unbelievable, and VERY annoying!

Hey 26th on the list is not bad!! I suppose it depends how many people they need. Shouldn't be long now though :D.

You are the first I have heard from who is on my IRC hopefully we should hear in the next couple of weeks as they have advertised the AO jobs again and I have been told our list is with the post holder now whoever they are. Where have you applied for?

i applied near enough everyone of them but hopefully get something in the Oldbury / Smethwick area. But also applied further afield such as Halesowen and Walsall. Well I also had to have a Medical assessment due to my rickety fingers. Lol. But the woman on the phone passed me although I kept telling her it was a past problem and not recent. Hopefully not too soon now. Whenever I go to sign on, the lady who does it always says "Don't worry not long now". Well, Im kinda safe in the knowledge that one of the staff there in the same position said it took her 3 and a bit months. She got told she was successful in October last year and started in January.

    Hi

As I have had it explained to me by DWP it goes like this. To make it simple let's say there are 10 branches in the area, and say 50 on the list and you are say 45th. 1 branch wants 15,another 10, another three want 5 and 5 branches want only 2 each. Say you have chosen three of the branches that only want 2 each but these have been taken up by people in front of you then you can be put on a merit list for 6 months, if vacancies come up then you could be offered them if not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I hope this makes sense.

I have been told today that you get called when your time has come and offered a place in any available jobcentre in your area? i was worried that my 3 chosen ones would get full quickly and i had offered to start work in any available jobcentre (as i was feeling very depressed about it all this morning!!) however i was told that i would get a call regardless of which centres i had chosen and get offered the one that was free? Again it is just conflicting info from Newcastle although it may vary from area to area?

Yeah i was very pleased with 26 as had a terrible interview! lol. I know they need 141 people which is why it is so frustrating as i know i am near to the top. I dread to think how bad it is for people at 50 or 60??

Anyway some good news i am starting a temp job on the 20th so at least that is some money coming in whilst i wait, and wait, and wait :rotfl:
  • Hi all

I've been offered a post subject to pre employment checks.

I have to provide P60s and wage slips but I've read on here that the DWP contact the inland revenue to check your employment history. If they do that anyway, why do I need to find P60s and so on?

    Totally confused!
