Hi All,

I just wanted to say that you guys really are fantastic and I'm so glad I have found this site... without this forum and your posts I don't think I would have had the encouragement to push so hard and may not have realised how much newcastle really needs pushing!

I determined for answers by the end of this week.. so will keep you informed!

Phoned Newcastle today and spoke to someone new although i was told that i could not be put through to checking as they were so busy, fair enough. This new person actually took my name and IRC number and then looked at my checks. She said they had not been cleared yet but that there were no notes saying they were waiting for any other info either. She also said the checks are now taking 6-10 weeks!! great. Back to waiting. Could be another few months as she then said that when the checks are cleared they go to the vacancy holder who waits until there is a training package ready before working down the merit list of people who had passed their checks.....can see this being a long time!

It might be worth just giving them a call once a week to make sure nothing stalls the process. Did you ask your position on the merit list? They should tell you!!
• Hi

I think there are two separate issues here, one is Annual Leave en titlement and the other is flexi time leave. Obviously Annual Leave is the number of days a person is entitled to over a 12 month period. Whereas if you are working on a flexi time basis then this is over a four week period during which you can accrue hours/possibly days which you can take off in addition to your Annual Leave.

I hope this makes sense.

Hi Julie, wondering if you know- is this flexi hrs contract something that everyone working for dwp gets, or is it just one of many different contract types? Thanks

Hi Newgirl82, I spoke to a woman at Newcastle yesterday who did the same for me but it did sounds like she was giving me all the lines for standard procedure and not paying any attention to my particular case.. so I would still suggest keeping on at them over the next few weeks.. maybe speak to your referees to make sure they have been contacted and references completed.. then you can get back onto the checking team and know that the majority of your checks are cleared before you speak with them.

As lili2008 said previously, I would agree that the only way I have ever been put through to a member of a checking team straight away, when ringing Newcastle, is by stating very clearly that my case cannot progress until I speak with them.. not sure if this helps but it may stop some people being turned away with just a possibility that someone might call back if they ever get your message..

good luck over the next few weeks/months Newgirl82 :)

Hi

I'm trying to think of the best way to try and answer your question. Firstly you use the word "contract". I am assuming here that you are referring to the fact that some of the jobs are 'permanent' and some are for 'a fixed term contract'. Perhaps the best way to describe flexi-time is to say it is if you like a working practice and nothing really to do with "contract". There are usually core hours when everyone on a flexi-time basis has to be at work say for arguments sake 10.00am until 12.00 and say 14.30 to 16.00. Usually there are earliest start times which can be say 07.00 am and latest leaving times say 19.00pm. Usually you have to take at least 30mins for lunch. Of course all of this has to fit in with covering the office between business hours. So for instance is you started work at 07.00 worked until 13.00 had 30 mins for lunch and worked until say 17.00 you would have accured time which you could accrue. As to whether or not it is available in all offices the answer is I don't know but perhaps the Union could answer that one for you.

I hope this helps.

Yes i was thinking that flexi was a contract type rather than a working practice so thanks for clearing that up

Thanks, i will keep ringing once a week. I know my references have not been contacted but the woman at Newcastle also said that they are not missing anything/waiting for anything else for my checks. From the sound of it everything they need is there but has not been completed as they have not got to me yet which is a bit frustrating as im ready to go! I am not sure if everyones references do get checked or whether they only do if you cant be traced by HMRC? Anyway thanks for the advice and ill keep everyone informed. Feeling a bit down now today though :( thought the end was near.

Hi thunderb0lt

Writing again would take to long especially if you have more interviews coming up soon.
I would email the person on the letter - I think most emails are
firstname.surname@DWP.GSI.GOV.UK
Tell them you have further interviews and would appreciate feedback as to why you failed the interview. Then ring up the following day to check the email has been received. Don't forget to quote your IRC no.
Hope this helps.

ANYONE ANY OTHER ADVICE FOR thunderb0lt.

Thanks for the reply, Landslide Victory..I will email them right away.

Hi

This is the theory of what happens at Newcastle, notice I use the word theory. Recruitment team passes to Checking team. Is there anything on your form regarding medical problems if so pass to ATOS healthcare to investigate, pass to HMRC to check on your tax records or JSA payments covering thepast three years - if there are absences in the records then they contact your references. Contact your current employer. Contact Disclosure Scotland for CRB check. When they are all complete pass to the Vacancy holder (usually the regional area office) who pass it down to the local vacancy holder. BUT the local vacancy holder must offer jobs on a strict merit list basis, which means say there are 50 on the list and you are say 49 and say nos 7, 14, 19, 29 etc are not complete then that holds you up. Of course anything and everything can and does go wrong as we all know. I was down about it but now I am angry and on their case.

I hope this helps
