This is the theory of what happens at Newcastle, notice I use the word theory. Recruitment team passes to Checking team. Is there anything on your form regarding medical problems if so pass to ATOS healthcare to investigate, pass to HMRC to check on your tax records or JSA payments covering thepast three years - if there are absences in the records then they contact your references. Contact your current employer. Contact Disclosure Scotland for CRB check. When they are all complete pass to the Vacancy holder (usually the regional area office) who pass it down to the local vacancy holder. BUT the local vacancy holder must offer jobs on a strict merit list basis, which means say there are 50 on the list and you are say 49 and say nos 7, 14, 19, 29 etc are not complete then that holds you up. Of course anything and everything can and does go wrong as we all know. I was down about it but now I am angry and on their case.
I hope this helps
THank you for this, I had read somewhere before that some places were disregarding the merit list due to demand and just placing those that had passed their checks... This was just speculation though, (although I was kind of hoping it is true). I cannot imagine that Newcastle have smoothly processed and completed all 53 applicants that are in front of me in the merit list! My checker has always implied that I would here from vacancy holder very quickly but I never have so I'm guessing that they are playing by the rules of the merit list in my area... when I can get hold of them I hope to find out...the long wait continues...
PS.. no reply back from my email yet0 -

Hiya, all information is helpful at this point so thanks. It is unfortunately just one long waiting game. I am waiting to hear on a job starting in September and the way i feel at the moment i would rather take that as they have been brilliant and no messing about. It really is a shame for the dwp as they start putting people off the job before they have even started working there!
Good luck to everyone still waiting and hopefully things won't be as drawn out as we are being told. Ill keep checking the forum and update when i have any news...... speak to you in a few months!0 -
Does anyone know a number I can ring where someone actually answers the phone? I've been ringing the number for the Central London vacancies for the last week or so & it just rings out.
Completely fed up with the whole debacle now!0 -

I have been waiting for a start date since 28th May (IRC58018 - Finance Administrator in Cardiff - 20 positions), phoned up on Monday and got to speak to someone who was the manager of the person who was running my exercise (she has now left).
Anyway, I wanted to know what the process was and she told me that they have to conduct checks on everyone on the merit list (I'm position 14) before they tell the business that they can start people. Only then do they start people in order of the merit list.
The DWP's recruitment process is so frustrating! :mad:0 -

0191 2162521

This is the number I ring from my letter for Essex... 0191 2183839.. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. They usually answer if I ring at about 10am. Sorry I can't be more definitive on that though as they are a law unto themselves...0 -

Thanks Litts for this information. I think, unless you are really high up on the merit list then anything can hold it up.. very frustrating!!..
I am grateful to be on a list at all I guess as the alternative would have been a rejection letter from the start without a glimpse of hope for a job so we will see.
I think I already know the answer to this question but just wanted to throw it out there.. With my paperwork I was sent a list of about 16 branches in the essex area.. and I chose the three that were closest to me as all others involved long commutes and expenses... So if all 53 people before me on the merit list chose other branches would I end up as number 1 on the list for my branch and get through quicker?? I think not but worth a try??:rotfl: Perhaps clutching at straws now!0 -

Thanks Chi Chi. I've tried that number & it just rings out. I'll try again soon.
God help us all if the DWP are supposed to help people back into work!0 -
Hi all ! I am so pleased I found this thread as I was just about to give up on there being any hope of being placed at all. (and still need some convincing to be honest...lol) I've on the waiting list for an AO position in the North East (Tees Valley) area since March and am becoming very frustrated at the whole DWP recuitment process. I can understand the whole "in order of merit " method that is used, but what I can't quite get my head around is how my position on the list from tenth on the list (6 weeks after interview, late April) to 2 weeks ago (23rd June) does not appear to have changed at all, when I know that there are actual vacancies that have been filled in the interim? I actually first spoke to my given contact in Newcastle in late April . At the time he advised me of my position and said " it shouldn't be long now as you are quite high up the list ". He also advised me to leave it a month or so and call back if I wanted updating re my progress on the list. I've therefore actually been attempting to track my progress for some time now. After weeks of unsuccessful attempts to get through via telephone (they weren't answering) I eventually got someone to answer about two weeks ago. The woman I spoke to was helpful but advised me that the person I needed to talk to " was not there" and that she had picked up the phone as she was randomly passing by as it rang. This is when I was told that my position on the list had not changed since the last time I had managed to get through (late April) and that my CRB checks had came back fine but "it looked like" they were awaiting other checks?... although she "couldnt be certain about that?" She also could not explain why my position on the list hadnt changed at all in months. Her advice was to call back last week when the person I needed to speak to "may" be there for me to talk to. He wasnt there all last week (or if he was he wasnt answering the phone?) and so far this week I've no success too. I've also tried to contact the person concerned via email and had no reply. I now have no idea what to do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated ..0
