DWP employment waiting list

Thanks Litts for this information. I think, unless you are really high up on the merit list then anything can hold it up.. very frustrating!!..
I am grateful to be on a list at all I guess as the alternative would have been a rejection letter from the start without a glimpse of hope for a job so we will see.
I think I already know the answer to this question but just wanted to throw it out there.. With my paperwork I was sent a list of about 16 branches in the essex area.. and I chose the three that were closest to me as all others involved long commutes and expenses... So if all 53 people before me on the merit list chose other branches would I end up as number 1 on the list for my branch and get through quicker?? I think not but worth a try??:rotfl: Perhaps clutching at straws now!
Hi
As I have had it explained to me by DWP it goes like this. To make it simple let's say there are 10 branches in the area, and say 50 on the list and you are say 45th. 1 branch wants 15,another 10, another three want 5 and 5 branches want only 2 each. Say you have chosen three of the branches that only want 2 each but these have been taken up by people in front of you then you can be put on a merit list for 6 months, if vacancies come up then you could be offered them if not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope this makes sense.0 -
I have been waiting for a start date since 28th May (IRC58018 - Finance Administrator in Cardiff - 20 positions), phoned up on Monday and got to speak to someone who was the manager of the person who was running my exercise (she has now left).
Anyway, I wanted to know what the process was and she told me that they have to conduct checks on everyone on the merit list (I'm position 14) before they tell the business that they can start people. Only then do they start people in order of the merit list.
The DWP's recruitment process is so frustrating!
Hi Litts
I know exactly how you feel i had my successful letter on the 15th may for admin officer (17 positions in South Wales Valleys area), i have been told my checks are complete/cleared and have passed to the vacancy holders in newcastle but i have no number for them or idea where i am on the merit list,
do you have any contact details for the vacancy holders who deal with wales that you could PM me please?0 -

It was Lauren McCluskey who was dealing with the exercise but she left last week (as yet they've not even passed her work onto anyone else). I asked to speak to the person who'd taken over from her, the girl did'nt know but took my number and a manager phoned me back an hour or so later...0 -

Thanks Juliet, yes it does make sense.. Hopefully I will find out some rough figures when I can get hold of a vacancy holder.
Any updates for you yet today Julietormesby?0 -
Hi all ! I am so pleased I found this thread as I was just about to give up on there being any hope of being placed at all. (and still need some convincing to be honest...lol) I've on the waiting list for an AO position in the North East (Tees Valley) area since March and am becoming very frustrated at the whole DWP recuitment process. I can understand the whole "in order of merit " method that is used, but what I can't quite get my head around is how my position on the list from tenth on the list (6 weeks after interview, late April) to 2 weeks ago (23rd June) does not appear to have changed at all, when I know that there are actual vacancies that have been filled in the interim? I actually first spoke to my given contact in Newcastle in late April . At the time he advised me of my position and said " it shouldn't be long now as you are quite high up the list ". He also advised me to leave it a month or so and call back if I wanted updating re my progress on the list. I've therefore actually been attempting to track my progress for some time now. After weeks of unsuccessful attempts to get through via telephone (they weren't answering) I eventually got someone to answer about two weeks ago. The woman I spoke to was helpful but advised me that the person I needed to talk to " was not there" and that she had picked up the phone as she was randomly passing by as it rang. This is when I was told that my position on the list had not changed since the last time I had managed to get through (late April) and that my CRB checks had came back fine but "it looked like" they were awaiting other checks?... although she "couldnt be certain about that?" She also could not explain why my position on the list hadnt changed at all in months. Her advice was to call back last week when the person I needed to speak to "may" be there for me to talk to. He wasnt there all last week (or if he was he wasnt answering the phone?) and so far this week I've no success too. I've also tried to contact the person concerned via email and had no reply. I now have no idea what to do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated ..
Hi Deorbie, sounds like they are certainly putting you through the mill too.. the only thing I can think of is, if the person that you need to talk to is away for a substantial amount of time, then someone must be covering their work load.. also they should have an 'out of office' automated response on any emails you send them saying when they will be back in the office and who is covering them whilst they are away. At this point I would start to ring constantly and push to speak to someone who can check your records and find out what is going on... maybe ask for team leader or manager of the absentee and insist on taking it higher up the ladder until you get some answers.
There are others in here who have worked for DWP before and may be able to give better advice too.
good luck, I hope it works out soon, let us know..

Hi
Well I spoke to the HEO in Newcastle who said that she had heard from the Regional HR Manager for the East of England!!!!!! HEO wanted to give me said Regional HR Manager's phone number but I said thank you I already have it!!!! I explained to HEO that Regional HR Manager was at a meeting in Ipswich today. HEO then said she had now passed the paper work to lady in Norwich for 'posting'. Lady in Norwich does not start work until 11.30. I tried ringing her at 12.00 but told she was in a meeting, lady who answered her phone said she willget her to ring me when she comes out of the meeting!!!!!! It is now 13.45 I suppose lunch hour but I am waiting for her call. I have to go out soon but if there are no messages when I return I will ring hedr again.

I think there are two separate issues here, one is Annual Leave en titlement and the other is flexi time leave. Obviously Annual Leave is the number of days a person is entitled to over a 12 month period. Whereas if you are working on a flexi time basis then this is over a four week period during which you can accrue hours/possibly days which you can take off in addition to your Annual Leave.
I hope this makes sense.0 -

hi chi chi
i did ask DS for who they sent it to at Newcastle via e-mail and they replied back saying that they can not give that info out?????? oh well. maybe i need to call, but those 0870 numbers cost me a bomb. so i will just call Newcastle and try to wing it some how into finding out who has my case.
Hi tarmis17
;)Here is an alternate number for DS - 0141 427 2284. I've used this number and it does work.
For alternate numbers try this site: http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php
Just type in the 08.... number or the company name.
Hope this helps.0 -
