I think so.
I wish I knew who the jobs manager for the central London exercise is. (As in, the person responsible in the area, not the HR bod at Newcastle). How would I find this out?
Hi Lilli
The guy in the checking section at Newcastle told me who the Vacancy holder for my area was with telephone number. Give him a ring and see if he will tell you who your one is.0 -

Thanks Juliet.
I'll have to wait a bit til they get back from leave, but what's another few days....:idea:0 -
The new adverts do say that hours from 8-8 need to be covered. Still don't think its fair for the people who have been waiting since early this year to now have the goal posts moved as i am sure it was 9-5 in the original adverts. Anyone got a copy of their original ads? Got my confirmation of my start date today and it says about working til 8pm, which i don't mind if its only once a week but i will be on the bus for an hour and a half each way , wouldn't get home til 10pm!0

Thanks Twinpeaks for your reply. It is a bit worrying walking into a new job without any 'real' information, am just thrilled to have employment after 6 months.
Will of course post on Monday to say how my first day went. :j;)
Kath.x
Hi Kath, just though I would post a message on here for you as you seem a bit apprehensive about starting & i know that feeling as not getting any info from Newcastle.
But everything will be fine & they make you feel quite welcome aswel. Good luck for when you start on Monday & everything will be fine0 -
Out of frustration today, I called Newcastle and spoke to the man who did most of my checks. He knew why I was calling... basically this has happened to quite a lot of people that just didn't know anything about it. I have been given another number to call a recuitment manager to discuss the matter. Its absolutely shocking that people are not being told about this. Single parents that just can't do these hours. Why did they ask on the original application what hours we could work to do something like this? This is going to end up a complete and utter disaster for a lot of successful applicants and it is not fair for it not to be advertised that you HAVE to be able to work until 8pm.0

Still waiting on IRC57184 in Birmingham, has anyone else heard yet?
I got my crb last week and then faxed it to Newcastle, i called them the next day and they confirmed they had received it. I called at the end of the week as i had an interview today in London and the company interviewing me were paying alot of money for travel and hotel etc and so i did not want to go if i was going to take a job from dwp. I called newcastle and spoke to a man this time who was unhelpful and said that i should go for the interview as the checks were now taking 30-40 days and there is a possibility of going back onto a waiting list????? Is this right?? i hope not!!!
Just wondering if anyone else can shed some light? my references have not been contacted but i have been working at the same place for 2.5 years so the other checks were probably pretty simple and i may not need to have references. Any help appreciated0 -
What they are doing at the jobcentre I am at is having another complete 'team' to cover any late shifts. eg, I was told I was going to be working as an F.A. and have been shadowing the lady that does this in the day but I will do it on a night. I think its to do with not having the accomodation to fit everyone in to be honest so they are staying open until 8pm and new claims etc will be filtered through to these hours too.
To be fair, the job is really good, interesting and extremely busy, a bit like a conveyer belt which makes the day go quicker which is nice. Its just these hours that have knocked me for six.
It may not happen to any of you, I hope it doesn't but I wanted to let you all know so as not to be as shocked as I was!!
Kath, you will enjoy it and good luck for Monday, just be aware of it being slipped in of being contracted t work until 8pm 3 nights per week. It was told to me in the first 10 minutes of being there and I nearly fell off my chair when I found out!
Twitterer, if I didn't know better, I'd say we know each other, as a lady in your position started in my office today.
In the panic of the credit crunch/recession, JCP had a choice. They could either re-open jobcentres they had closed to cope with the increase in unemployment, or extend the hours of existing ones. They chose the latter.
Unfortunately, they didn't think it through (as usual). It didn't occur to them they also have to be sure they have the staff to man these hours. Existing staff don't want to work these hours, and the job ads have been ambiguous at best about the expectations of new entrants. Now, the numbers of unemployed continue rising and it's finally dawning on management they're in the doggy doo.
I would suggest you get someone to look on the computer at the wording of your original job advert.Fokking Fokk!0 -

Thanks for the information.
Love your quote about the doggy doo :rotfl:
I can't get hold of the original job advert, I wish I could.0 -
