DWP employment waiting list

Twitterer,
I feel so bad for you, it's disgusting what they've done! I have had NO paperwork regarding my working hours, only a call to say start date is 6th July. I have had no paperwork regarding anything. I'm starting as an AO in Bolton and back in March when I applied for this job there was definitely nothing on there that stated working until 8pm.
I know we all really need these jobs, but I think the DWP need to review their handling of some on the situations, they are almost abusing their position because they know how desperate we all are for employment. **Shakes head***
Hugs to you Twitterer.

It does go in to some detail about hours, and it would appear that even after agreeing your initial contractual hours on your first day, you can be given 4 weeks notice of a change to these hours, by your manager.
`This does not restrict the Department`s right to require you to work different times between 8am to 8pm Mon-Fri, and Sat 9am to 1pm`
I had kept all of the original adverts for the positions, and compared them to this letter. The wording on hours is `These hours will normally be worked between 9am and 5pm, but there may be a requirement to work between the hours of 8am and 8pm, and on Saturday 9am to 1pm`
It would seem that when you sign your contract, it is a contract that is weighted very much in the DWP court. I agree that it is very frustrating to have endured such a long drawn out process, only to have the goalposts moved, and furthermore, the likelihood of them being constantly moved in the future. I am sorry to hear of your problem regarding this Twitterer, and hope a compromise can be reached. Kath, you no doubt, will receive a letter like me, or it will be thrust on you on your first day when you sign your contract. Hope it is not as bad as it sounds. Bit of a body blow to a lot of people I should imagine, getting this far, and then finding out about this. Good luck to everybody.;)0 -
Thanks, that has calmed me down a bit!.
Are you sure, that this is the case, did you recieve this letter and then recieve another letter?
Thanks!!
You will receive a separate letter to confirm if you were successful or not. Mine came before I received my test scores though. But everything seems to be taking ages! I had my interview on 16th April and still no start date.0 -
Hello Kath & Twitterer. I hope this little story of mine clarifies things. I applied for 3 AO positions, and was successful in each exercise. These exercises were in different areas, and sods law dictated that it was the furthest office from me, that made the first offer. I initially accepted, but after doing some maths regarding travel costs/time etc, I withdrew the next day. They were fine about it, once I had explained just how much money it was going to cost, just to get to & from work. The point of my post, is that in the interim between being offered the post, me accepting, and then withdrawing, HR at Newcastle sent me an appointment letter. In this letter it states `The hours of operation of the business are 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, and Saturday 9am to 1pm. You may be required to work at any time between 8am and 8pm on any day between Monday and Friday, and Saturday 9am to 1pm`

Thanks Twinpeaks for your reply. It is a bit worrying walking into a new job without any 'real' information, am just thrilled to have employment after 6 months.
Will of course post on Monday to say how my first day went. :j;)

Well, predictably, I have still heard nothing at all. My CRB was sent back to Newcastle Thurs 18 June, after which I was told there would be a 7-10 day wait til the jobholder contacted me. I suppose tomorrow is the official 10th working day since then but aaarrgghghh...why can't something just happen!!!! The silent phone of death.:idea:0

Good news today i got my call from Rosney Leith, who organised the recruitment days etc. based in Garston. I was offered a start date, and as I have a holiday 15th July, we agreed 3rd august at St Helens (following training) al to be confirmed in writing in the next few days.
I can stop wondering now
Congratulations. Am thrilled for you.

Tell me about it! It seems the London recruitment process is going much slower than everywhere else : (
P.S Aoki if you're still here, let us know how it's all going.0 -

I think so.
I wish I knew who the jobs manager for the central London exercise is. (As in, the person responsible in the area, not the HR bod at Newcastle). How would I find this out?:idea:0
